Geek movies took a back seat at the Academy Awards Sunday night. As such non-geek films as “Crash” and “Brokeback Mountain” battled it out, the geeky movies were getting trophies in those crappy technical awards that usually don’t get shown on TV.
“King Kong,” directed by Oscar-winner Peter Jackson, was the big winner here with wins for Best Visual Effects, Sound Mixing, and Sound Editing.
Best Animated Feature went to “Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit,” which beat out “Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride” and “Howl’s Moving Castle.”
“The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe” beat out “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith” for Achievement in Makeup.
And oh, yeah, if you care, “Crash” won Best Picture.
