Mark Hamill is gearing up to direct the live-action feature The Black Pearl as well as work on an animated comedy called Fort Frankie, according to Hollywood reporter Army Archerd.
Hamill told Archerd that he’d spent a day at Star Wars creator George Lucas’s Presidio location getting CGI pointers in order to make Fort Frankie, about a big-city building viewed from the perspective of the pets that live there, into a computer-animated show.
During the interview, Hamill also said that Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson have joined the screenwriting team to adapt Johnson and Hamill’s 1996 Dark Horse Comics five-issue series The Black Pearl.
Says Hamill of The Black Pearl movie, “[The story] explores the moral uncertainty of our current times, with several new substantial characters and a new surprise ending sure to shock audiences — it’s like Fargo meets Batman.”
