Superman Returns

The Geeks of Doom are counting down to June 30, the day “Superman Returns” flies into theaters. Every week till then, we?ll explore another aspect of the Man of Steel?s universe.

With great marketing comes great merchandising, and the upcoming SUPERMAN RETURNS blockbuster certainly has its share of tie-in products, from comic books, toys, and collectibles to an all-star voice-casted video game!

Gamers can leap atop skyscrapers and dodge elevated trains as they fly like Superman to save Metropolis from destruction and the likes of villain Metallo in Superman Returns: The Videogame, in stores June 28. The Superman Returns leading cast members will add their voices to the game, including star Brandon Routh, who also lends his likeness to the game. The developer’s site has a preview here; to view screenshots, click here.

For those who prefer their games the old-fashioned way, there’s Superman-themed UNO and Monopoly, as well as two sets of 100-piece jigsaw puzzles (flying pose, standing pose).

Music lovers can decorate their mp3 player with a Superman Returns iPod case.

Superman Returns StatueWeta Limited has partnered with DC Direct to create four high-end limited-edition collectible statues based on scenes from Superman Returns.

The Weta statues, which were art-directed for Weta by Superman Returns director Bryan Singer, will be available for purchase starting June 28 and each sculpture will be accompanied by an exclusive DVD documenting the process of creating the collectibles.

DC Direct will also offer their own assortment of hand-painted cold-cast porcelain busts and statues, including the Superman Maquette, busts of Clark Kent, Superman, and Lex Luthor, and a Kryptonite prop replica. The company will also have a Superman 13-inch deluxe collector action figure.

Want a little less action? Check out Barbie and Ken’s transformation into Lois Lane and Superman.

Superman Returns StatueDC Comics plans a major comic book tie-in with the film. Along with two movie adaptations, there will also be four one-shots released once per week in June that will bridge the gap between the end of Superman II and the beginning of Superman Returns. See The Geeks of Doom blog supplemental for further details: SUPERMAN RETURNS: The Comics.

Wicked Cool Stuff has a large selection of Superman Returns shirts, keychains, toys, action figures, and lots lots more, including Krazy Kryptonite Compound and Swingshot Figure.

  • Rumor has it that the actor, Brandon Routh, has a package so large that the studio had to “tone down” the images on the publicity stills. This rumor is definitely made up by the publicity department, but it’s fun to notice that the dolls don’t have this problem. http://www.welovebrandonrouth.com
