Empress Eve   |  @   |

preview sketch of new THOR comic bookNewsarama interviews author J. Michael Straczynski about the new Thor series he’s working on with Olivier Coipel. The upcoming Marvel comic book will find the legendary god rebuilding Asgard in Oklahoma.

NRAMA: Thor’s alter-ego has been under several names and personalities over time, but most notably that of Dr. Donald Blake. In your Fantastic Four run, someone with the initials “D.B.” eventually picked up Thor’s hammer discreetly and went off. What can you say about the story of Mjolnir as it crashed into the FF comic?

Clive Barker Announces Upcoming Titles

Empress Eve   |  @   |

Clive Barker's Scarlet Gospels sketchClive Barker has announced that HarperCollins will be publishing his new novel Mister B. Gone later this year. The short horror novel, which the author hopes will be out by Halloween, will be slightly long than Barker’s Thief of Always and is intended for an adult readership.

According to the author’s official Web site, the book promises to be a psychologically scary tale of demonic horrors. Barker wrote Mister B. Gone while also working on his upcoming Scarlet Gospels, a new Pinhead tale that pits the Cenobites leader against fellow Barker character Harry D’Amour.

Also, the third book in Barker’s Abarat series titled Abarat: Absolute Midnight is due out later this year and will be black both in sentiment and cover design. A gold cover is planned for the fourth installment, titled Abarat: The Eternal.

As previously reported at Geeks of Doom, Barker will script the remake of his 1987 horror flick Hellraiser and is working on a movie about teens who unlock a curse linked to Edgar Allen Poe. Also, the author’s serial killer story Midnight Meat Train is being developed into a feature film titled Midnight Meat Train with star Bradley Cooper.

30 Days of Night prequel seriesSpider-Man director Sam Raimi will produce the first two original series for Fearnet, the multiplatform horror/thriller site launched five months ago by Sony, Comcast, and Lionsgate, according to Variety.

The first project, Devil’s Trade, follows three teenagers who find themselves cursed after buying an item off a Web site. Ben Ketai wrote the script and Toby Wilkins will direct the series, which is set to start in June.

The second project, also penned by Ketai, will serve as a prequel to 30 Days of Night, the Ghost House/Columbia Pictures feature about vampires who feast on an isolated Alaskan town. The prequel will debut in advance of the October 19 release of the feature.

Raimi, who first made a name for himself in the horror genre with the Evil Dead movies, will produce through his Ghost House Pictures. Both series will run seven episodes with storylines continuing week-to-week and will be available on all Fearnet platforms: on-demand cable, streaming Internet video and mobile devices.

Movie Review: Blades of Glory
space
Duchess of Doom   |

Blades of GloryBeing a 13-year-old, I obviously thought that Blades of Glory was hilarious and very unpredictable, but the adults who sponsored my viewing of this movie assure me that my assessment is accurate.

This is an outrageous comedy about two rival Olympic male figure skaters who become — of all things — skating partners! In the beginning of the movie, it’s both of them skating and at the award ceremony, they end up having to share the Gold metal. Being enemies, the two men, Jimmy MacElory (Jon Heder) and Chazz Michael Michael (Will Ferrell), get into a fist fight and get banned from figure skating for life. Not realizing that they were only banned from skating in the division that they were in, the two men abandon their dreams.

Several years later, Jimmy’s creepy stalker (Nick Swardson, who played the brother who was afraid of the Sun in Benchwarmers), finds out that Jimmy is still eligible to skate in the pairs division. Soon after, Jimmy’s old coach (Craig T. Nelson) gets him back into the rink and unexpectedly teamed up with Chazz to compete in the figure skating pairs division.

After the old rivals paired up, I was kept on the edge of my seat because I couldn’t imagine what their skating routine would be like. It was funny to watch two men try to do the same moves that a man and women would do, but surprisingly, after a few performances, it actually looked pretty good.

Throughout the hearing and competition scenes, a bunch of former medal-winning skaters who I didn’t know “” except for Brian Boitano, who I totally know thanks to South Park “” appear as themselves and after their significance was explained to me, I got the jokes. (Hey, I did mention that I’m 13, didn’t I?)

While watching this movie, I couldn’t think of what crazy thing would happen next. If you want to laugh out loud, I recommend that you go to see Blades of Glory immediately.
