‘Teen Titans’ Leap to Big Screen

Teen TitansThe Teen Titans are graduating to the big screen with a live-action adaptation.

Warner Bros. Pictures is planning a big-screen live-action adaptation of the DC Comics series Teen Titans, the junior superhero team made up of popular sidekicks, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The tone of the movie will be consistent with other recent Warners’ comic book ventures Batman Begins, Superman Returns, and the upcoming Watchmen, according to Akiva Goldsman, who along with Kerry Foster is producing the Titans film through their Weed Road banner.

Comic book writer/creator Mark Verheiden, who wrote Timecop and The Mask and served as writer-producer on TV’s Smallville, will pen the Titans script. Verheiden is also a writer-producer for SciFi Channel’s Battlestar Galactica.

First Look: Speed Racer’s Mach 5

USA Today has a first look at Mach 5, the race car from Speed Racer, the upcoming live-action adaptation of the 1960s animated series from directors Larry and Andy Wachowski.

According to the article, the design of the car was based on the one from the original cartoon, but was given a more modern look.

‘Harry Potter’ A Go At Universal Studios

Owl's Eye ViewBack in April, it was rumored that a Harry Potter attraction might be coming to Universal Studios.

Now, it’s official. Today, Warner Bros. Entertainment, Inc. and Universal Orlando Resort announced that The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will open at Universal’s Islands of Adventure theme park in Orlando in late 2009. [*See further update at bottom.]

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, which will be the first themed environment based on the popular children’s book series by J.K. Rowling, will enable guests to visit some of the most iconic locations found in the books as well as in the blockbuster films.

Islands of Adventure’s new land is being considered a theme park within a theme park and will include the village of Hogsmeade (photo below at left) and the mysterious Forbidden Forest. Anchoring this new section of the park will be Hogwarts Castle (photo below at right), where fans will get the chance to experience some of their favorite locations both within Hogwarts and around the castle grounds.

Two ‘Fantastic Four’ Sites Go Live

Two new mini-sites dedicated to Fantastic Four are now live at Marvel’s official page — one for the upcoming Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer theatrical feature, another for the Fantastic Four: World’s Greatest Heroes – Back in Action animated series.

Both sites contain a trailer, downloadable wallpaper, cast details, background story information, tidbits, and a countdown clock to their respective debut dates.

The site dedicated to the FF animated series, which originally ran last year on the Cartoon Network, also has synopses for seven episodes.

Weitz Bros. Turn to ‘Elric’ Saga

ElricEmpire Online has an interview with Chris Weitz, who along with his brother Paul Weitz, is adapting Michael Moorcock‘s Elric saga for the big screen through their Depth Of Field production company.

Writer/director Chris Weitz, whose most recent endeavor is New Line’s The Golden Compass, said in the interview that he hopes his brother will direct the Elric series of movies, though no one has been chosen for the position at this time.

There’s been very little news regarding the movie adaptation since it was announced that Universal and the Weitz Brothers had optioned 11 books from the fantasy series. But on his official message board, author Moorcook — who is serving as co-producer — stated last month about the first film that, The script as it now exists is a version of “Elric of Melnibone” and the story The Dreaming City.”
