Hidden Disney References in ‘Enchanted’

EnchantedThe Kansas City Star has posted an extensive list of hidden Disney references in Disney’s lasted film Enchanted. The list, which was sent to the Star by the movie studio, is a scene-by-scene breakdown of all the hidden references and [not-so-hidden] homages to earlier Disney movies and projects.

One viewing of Enchanted and you’ll immediately pick up on all the typical Disney “princess” themes, as well as props used throughout like the poison apples and a lost glass slipper. Then there’s the hidden references that are so fun to pick out in a film like this. For instance, I noticed right away that the restaurant Robert takes Giselle to is called the Bella Notte Restaurant, which is the song from Lady and the Tramp.

Here’s some of my favorites from the list:

— Inside Giselle’s treehouse on the right is a bell jar with a rose in it from from Beauty and the Beast.

— The Troll that Prince Edward is hunting is wearing a loincloth made of remnants of the dresses of past animated Disney princesses Snow White, Belle, Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella. He’s also wearing Ariel’s shells as earrings.

— In Robert’s law office, the last name of the couple seeking a divorce is Banks, which based on the troubled parents in Mary Poppins.

— When Edward is flipping through TV channels in the hotel room, the soap opera that comes on is a play on Beauty and the Beast: The characters are named for the movie’s actors; the music underscoring the soap is the movie’s theme song; and the set was made to look like the bandaging scene, complete with snow. Also, the star of the soap opera is Paige O’Hara, the voice of Belle.

View the entire list at the Kansas City Star. Note, there’s four pages to click through and since it goes through every scene, you might not want to read it until you’ve seen the film. [Link via Cinema Blend.]

  1. In the scene where Giselle is looking in the fish tank (right before she comments on Mrs. Banks’s eyes) there is “Part Of Your World” playing in the background of the office.

  2. Enchanted had references to Disney’s A Christmas Carol

Gissele’s 50,00ft fall into New York references Ebenezer Scrooge’s lofty fall after riding The Ghost of Christmas Past.

Opening scene has the story book of Enchanted in reference to A Christmas Carol’s first scene.

Everybody in New York has attitudes like Ebenezer Scrooge.

  3. Hi, I’m writing about Disney’s Enchanted for my dissertation and was wondering if there was an official line from Disney about this available anywhere? The article says that Disney sent the list to The Kansas City Star and I was wondering if it was possible to get my hands on it directly from Disney themselves?

I also notice the link to the Kansas City Star is broken so is there anywhere I can find a working link?

    Any help would be appreciated.
