Nimoy Reveals Three Spocks in ‘Trek XI’

Star Trek IXTrek Movie Report points us to two video clips from CBS 2 News‘s exclusive video interview with Leonard Nimoy, who reveals that there will be three Spocks in J.J. Abrams‘s Star Trek XI.

In a 15-minute Web exclusive video segment, which goes inside Nimoy’s home and highlights his photography exhibit, Nimoy shows off a pair of Spock ears from 1968. If all that wasn’t enough, it’s worth it to watch the video just to hear Nimoy say, “I am Spock …” when revealing that there will be a total of three Spocks in the Trek prequel.

The Web-only video is called “Inside Leonard Nemoy’s House” (yes, they spelled Nimoy incorrectly!); a shorter clip, which aired on the LA news show, is called “‘Mr. Spock’ Discusses his place in Sci-Fi lore.”

In other Trek XI news, AICN‘s has posted three scoop reports from unnamed sources regarding the film, the most noteworthy one from someone who claims to have read the script penned by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.

The source confirms earlier reports that the Trek XI story will involve a young James T. Kirk’s (Chris Pine) unorthodox handling of Starfleet Academy’s Kobayashi Maru test. And from what this source claims, Trek fans won’t be pleased.

I just wish the character of Kirk weren’t written as if in a dumb after school special. Shatner will have a field day ripping into the rather sleazy portrayal of his classic character. While he may have always been a skirt chaser, making him a lousy student seems like they’re trying too hard to appeal to a real young audience who has the menu to Taco Bell memorized.

Well, this could be the reason why William Shatner wasn’t approached to reprise his role as Kirk in the Trek prequel the way Nimoy is reprising his role as Spock.

For the two other AICN reports, one comes from someone who’s viewed footage of the film who says we’ll see more of the Starship Enterprise; another report tells of a visual hand-off between old Spock (Leonard Nimoy) and young Spock (Zachary Quinto).

In much lighter Trek news, Jennifer Garner, who starred in the J.J. Abrams hit TV series Alias, told MTV that she’d love to play a Klingon in the new film. The actress says she’d even take a cameo: “I just want to walk through [the frame] as a Klingon.” There’s no word yet whether Klingons will appear in the film, but if they do, I hope Garner gets her wish — just like fellow actor and Trek fan Christian Slater did when he cameoed in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.
