‘Punisher: War Zone’ Images + Synopsis

Empress Eve   |

Lionsgate has sent us two new production photos from their upcoming Punisher sequel Punisher: War Zone, which hits theaters on September 12, 2008.

The synopsis along with two new images plus one previously released photo are here after the jump (click them for larger view).

In this sequel, Rome‘s Ray Stevenson is the Punisher, Frank Castle, based on the Marvel character, previously played by Thomas Jane in the 2004 film.

Synopsis

Waging his one-man war on the world of organized crime, ruthless vigilante-hero Frank Castle sets his sights on overeager mob boss Billy Russoti. After Russoti is left horribly disfigured by Castle, he sets out for vengeance under his new alias: Jigsaw. With the “Punisher Task Force” hot on his trail and the FBI unable to take Jigsaw in, Frank must stand up to the formidable army that Jigsaw has recruited before more of his evil deeds go unpunished.

Starring Ray Stevenson (HBO’s “Rome”) as the Punisher, PUNISHER: WAR ZONE is directed by Lexi Alexander and produced by Gale Anne Hurd and Ari Arad. The film’s executive producers are Kevin Feige, Ogden Gavanski, Oliver Hengst and Jeremy Latcham.

CAST: Ray Stevenson, Dominic West, Doug Hutchison, Colin Salmon, Wayne Knight, Dash Mihok, Julie Benz

I remain cautiously optimistic that WAR ZONE will undo the “fire hydrant” antics that nearly crippled the first one with some grueling vengeance, and that shot of the Frank’s workshop definitely has me smiling.

Yeah, the first Punisher, enjoyable as it was, could have used the whole Ennis on Max feel, hopefully this one will deliver exactly that.
