Gary Oldman revealed that not only will he have a part in the Robert Zemeckis motion capture/animated version of the classic Charles Dickens tale, A Christmas Carol, but that he’s playing multiple roles — Tiny Tim, Bob Cratchit, and Jacob Marley.
Gary Oldman as Tiny Tim. That’s about as curious in a part that you can get me.
Jim Carrey was the first big name to be involved in this project and he’s playing four roles — Scrooge, Ghost of Christmas Past, Ghost of Christmas Present, and Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come.
Having one actor play the entire cast (or just a few characters) was a little weird in The Polar Express, so I wonder why not just cast different people for each of the roles? Beowulf didn’t have Angelina Jolie playing Grendel’s Mother AND Grendel and Beowulf, so I’m curious as to why Zemeckis does it with the Christmas movies. Maybe it’s just a money thing? Of course, it IS Jim Carrey and Gary Oldman, so it’s not like they won’t handle it and be great… just makes me wonder is all!
I can’t wait to see how this one looks when it’s all put together. I’m a child of the ’80s, so I was raised on Mickey’s Christmas Carol over the classic film version, but in any case, this should be fun to see.
