New Live-Action ‘TMNT’ Movie To Be A Re-Invention?

The Movie God   |

TMNTRecently, a rumor was circulating that a brand new live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie may just be on the way.

Even the chance of this is unnaturally exciting to a child of the 1980s such as myself, but the last time talks of a new movie came up, it eventually became a completely computer-animated movie — a completely computer-animated movie that I actually enjoyed a lot, but a computer-animated movie none-the-less.

Now comes word from Kevin Eastman — co-creator of the TMNT — who commented on a possible live-action movie on Phorum 5, the Heavy Metal forum.

Yes, it is true. Although the CGI film did well enough to warrent a sequel, there has been much talk between Imagi and Warners to do a better “re-invention” (newest Hollywood buzzword) of the TMNT’s, in a live action film–like what was done with Batman. Back to basics, back to the origin and the intro of the Shredder, etc…there have been talks, trips to Northampton to talk to Mr Laird [Peter Laird, who created the Turtles with Eastman], and discussions with the original “first” TMNT film director Steve Barron to come back and do it right–but no official word yet…will keep you posted. Best, Kevin

I don’t know about you kids, but this excites me to no end. I wasn’t a huge fan of the third live-action movie, so I’ve been craving me some more for what, almost 20 years? Better yet, this might actually be the darker, more bad-ass version fans have wanted for the longest time? As most people know, the comics were fairly dark and violent, so they could very easily go for a hard PG-13 rating and it would be fine because the super-fans are all in their 20′s and 30′s now. The only issue is that along the way, they’ve continued to make shows and toys for kids and continued to get new, younger fans, so who knows what they’ll do. I vote that they keep making CGI movies for the kids and these new live-action movies for the older fans. But who the hell am I?

Sigh.

I am still a huge fan of the first two live-action films, and enjoyed the new CGI film for what it was worth… but a dark and violent adaptation of the original comics, that would be bliss!

The first Ninja Turtles movie sported, to my eye, the best animatronic costumes I had ever seen before, and have ever seen since. They just… they brought these characters to life. Gave each of them a distinct face, distinct personalities… I’m so afraid that any attempt to equal or surpass that will end in failure. None of the other three movies, OR the TV show have been able to match up to the first one.

That said… the *possibility* that they could do it well and do it right… yeah. That’s exciting.

It would be nice if they did a new movie closer to the comics. =)

It would be nice if it were to be darker, but it will never happen. It will be PG13 or lower.

Still though it will be great. Hopefully they wont cgi the turtles themselvs, as the current trend is to cheaply cgi everything.

Be cool if it was like the first one. Aparently parents at the time complained they said “damn” alot. So silly that in usa it is classed as a sware word.

I’m excited about what I believe they are trying to do, just not how they are doing it. If you want to see more, go to

    www.turtlesthemovie.com.

We have spent 3 years working on a story for a live action turtles film, and I believe it’s the movie Turtles fans deserve!
