Nikki Finke over at DHD is reporting that Sony has somehow re-obtained Tobey Maguire and Sam Raimi to do Spider-Man 4. Along with this also comes expectations that Kirsten Dunst will also be returning.
To go along with this, as previously reported, Sony is working on shooting a fifth movie at the same time, instead of waiting and risking losing the stars again. The plan is to do movies 4 and 5 in the very smart back-to-back method, assuring them a hell of a lot more money, so long as they make up for the slap of a third movie they put out.
This is an interesting turn-of-events as only recently, many names were being tossed around to claim the Spidey crown, but Sony stood tall saying they still wanted Maguire, and looky here, they pulled it off.
While I was open to a new Spider-Man, I think it’s good they got their group back. I just really hope they return to the second movie’s form and gain a little retribution from the third film. At least it seems the black costume will be gone in these upcoming movies. As far as villains goes, Sony is waiting on casting someone for the part since filming won’t begin until next Fall, but Finke was told that, “once you find out who the villain is, you’ll know who’s playing it.”
Also, the Venom spin-off was touched on, where apparently they still want to use Topher Grace, which is a terrible idea if you ask me. Todd McFarlane says that they can’t do a movie centered on a villain, which I don’t think is the case. They need to do this darker (as much as they seem to not want to be like The Dark Knight) and center on the Venom and Carnage and it would be brilliant!
Either way, it looks like a lot more Spidey is on the way, folks. Look for Spider-Man 4 to be hitting around May of 2011.
Yeah… and we though our precious Harry Potter was a long wait.
