But maubo, surely Kirk would remember his message having been interrupted, and so make it shorter?

Star Trek time travel always makes me laugh, as does any attempt by it to grapple with actual science (or even actual science fiction).

Can still be entertaining though.

Holo-Kirk! Betcha anything it was a holodeck scene.

I would be really nice if Shatner could have a cameo, but if he's being that difficult then he essentially wrote himself out.

Since it doesn't qualify as a spoiler, it can be posted:

Flashback scene: While in the Nexus, Kirk sends a video message to his younger self giving advice regarding a plot point in the movie, it travels thru time in a roundabout way to his younger self. His younger self starts to watch it but is interrupted by a terrific action sequence, and never sees the whole message, thus, what Old Kirk tries to warn him about, Young Kirk is not prepared for. (Thus it keeps in line with time's continuity, no time travel paradox ensures.)

Some while ago, co-writer Roberto Orci mentioned that a cameo role had been written, and that it was initially "blessed" by Shatner, who later demanded a larger part than the Spock-centric story could sustain.

Orci has never given closure to the Shatner issue, saying, "With another year to go, who knows?"

In response to the latest word from JJ Abrams, Orci has said, "Alex [Kurtzman] and I did indeed come up with a sequence for Shatner that we wrote before the [WGA] strike, although technically it wasn't a flashback. After the movie [is released], I'll post the sequence in question."
