‘Star Trek XI’ EW Cover + First Images!

Empress Eve   |

Looks like this week’s issue of Entertainment Weekly will feature Zachary Quinto and Chris Pine in their Star Trek XI uniforms as Mr. Spock and James T. Kirk, respectively.

The issue is set to go on sale this Friday, but the cover story might go up on EW’s website as soon as tomorrow [cover image via JustJared].

According to TrekMovie, the cover image shows the characters in their new two-piece bridge uniform shirts, which consists of a gray/black undershirt and a second v-neck shirt over that in red, blue or gold. It was also recently announced that the film, which will be a prequel to the original Star Trek television series and subsequent movies, will have a two-hour running time.

Aside from the EW cover, a bunch of new Star Trek XI images are now online at various websites. Check them out, along with descriptions, here below.

Not much is known about Nero, played by Eric Bana, but with this photo of the new Trek villain on the bridge of his vessel, comes some new information. Nero, who is holding a weapon in this image, is some what of a rogue Romulan and his facial tattoos are unique to him and everyone on his crew has similar facial tattoos, but no two are alike. Here’s an image of Kirk that takes place mid-way through the movie. Producer Damon Lindelof said of the photo, which was shot on a set in Los Angeles, “It seems to be some sort of icy embankment. I will confirm that it is an ice hole, or an ice crater…. Basically once he gets out of that crater, he’s in an icy place and there are many effects that follow.” [Source: IGN]

Here’s another photo on the bridge with some of the crew. Kirk (Pine) and Sulu (Cho) look a bit beat up and producer Damon Lindelof reveals that they might have gotten into a flight [possibly with each other?]. The producer also says says of the photo that Kirk’s black shirt is a Captain’s uniform and that the “color was ‘significant’ to the story surrounding this scene.” Speaking of shirts, there’s a crew member wearing red, which Lindelof says is an indication of her fate.

God, this is going to suck.

Somebody tell me why they hired a bunch of twelve-year-olds to play the crew?

It looks like the prequel will have more technology than the last movie. I wonder if this new series will ignore everything that has happened and move forward from this point.

And doesn’t MAD SPOCK look like he is channeling Sylar? :)

Remember this is before Spock losing T’Pring…

As a longtime Trekker (I won the heart of a wonderful woman by choosing Kirk over Picard as my fave Enterprise captain) I am all for this new take on STAR TREK. The infusion of new blood is vital to keeping the franchise going strong for years to come. J.J. Abrams has proven to be a great storyteller as grounded in character and emotional depth as most event filmmakers are in hollow visual effects and boring pyrotechnics.

Next summer looks pretty threadbare on spectacle thanks to last year’s WGA strike but Paramount has shown a lot of faith in moving the film to the early May spot that IRON MAN owned this year. I am getting excited.

Were’s the continuity….Kirk never met Spock until he took command of the enterprise.
I also heard that this story takes place during their starfleet academy years…once again Spock & McCoy are at least 10 years older than Kirk…and Kirk is 10 years older than Chekov. I only hope this is their maiden voryage together as a crew to keep the timeline correct. Of course here’s another problem..Kirk is 32 when he assume command the new Kirk looks 16.

Another continuity problem is Chekov. What the hell is he doing in a prequel if he wasn’t even in the first season?
