George Miller and Warner Bros. have apparently gotten their hands on Brad Pitt to take Homer’s The Odyssey and make a movie version that’s would be a futuristic tale set in outer space.
This would mark a return to mythological Greece for Pitt, who previously portrayed famed heroic warrior Achilles in 2004′s Troy.
The story of the The Odyssey follows Odysseus after the events of The Iliad and the Trojan War and his journey through all kinds of fantastical adventures to get home to his wife and child.
This news would typically make my day — as I’ve said before I’m a complete sucker for anything Greek Mythology, and with all the projects that fit that mold that are slated for production, how could I not be psyched? — but unfortunately, with them wanting to make this all futuristic, I have trouble being such. That paired with f’n Ratner doing God of War and my Mythological-based cinema luck is in the midst of a big storm.
Aside from poor luck for myself, this does sound like it has the potential on its own to be a cool project, so it has that going for it.
