Writing newcomer Joby Harold is in negotiations to pen the script for the movie adaptation of the comic book Atlantis Rising for DreamWorks.
In Atlantis Rising, the secret underwater civilization is discovered after seismic readings uncover it. This discovery sets off a war between humans and this new “alien” species that has been living on our planet this whole time.
Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, who produced both Transformers and the upcoming Star Trek, are producing here along with Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, who is the creator of Atlantis Rising as well as CEO of Platinum Studios, which produces the comic among many others.
Of the project, Orci had this to say:
In all the classic versions of this kind of movie, the threat is always from the stars. The idea that it’s somehow our cousins who went off in a different path of evolution who have been here, literally, underneath our oceans. … That’s fascinating, the idea of secrets right under your nose.
The movie is being handled as a possible tentpole for DreamWorks in 2011 and there is still the chance that Paramount may jump in and co-distribute.
