Hong Kong mega-star writer/director/actor Stephen Chow, the man behind Shaolin Soccer and Kung-Fu Hustle, has stepped down as director of The Green Hornet. Though he’ll no longer be directing, he is still staying on to star as The Green Hornet’s sidekick Kato in the project.
Chow was set to make his American debut as director of the film along with his starring as Kato in the adaptation of the characters that debuted as a 1930′s radio show and also showed up as a TV show and multiple comics over the years. The script was written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, with Rogen starring across from Chow as the Hornet himself.
The Green Hornet follows Britt Reid (Rogen), a newspaper publisher who fights crime at night with his sidekick Kato (Chow) and is set for a June 25, 2010 release.
