Teaser Trailer: ‘The People vs. George Lucas’
The Movie God   |  @   |

People vs. George LucasWell, here’s an interesting little slice of pie for all of you kids. A new teaser trailer has surfaced, and it’s for a movie that’s called The People vs. George Lucas.

Basically what we have here is a documentary that talks to a wide array of people. These people stand on two sides of a sharp line — on one side stands the people who love and will always love Mr. George Lucas; on the other side stands the people who hate him with a refined passion. Some of the people who hate him seem to have loved him at one point, but have been so severely let down by the newest three Star Wars movies that they developed this hatred. Other people on this negative side of the line seem to see how much making money and being an evil marketing genius means to Georgie over concentrating on the quality and quantity of all these films people so desperately want, or NEED, to see, and that is what causes the hate. Then there’s surely the people who fit under all of these descriptions.

Even better is the collection of people that are on these two sides of the line. Some of them aren’t just fanboys looking to whine, they’re actually names that are known or people who are associated with names that we know and their love or hatred for the mastermind himself.

Be sure to click over to the other side and check out the press release for who you’ll see talking about George Lucas and also for the teaser trailer!

Featuring (to date) the legendary Gary Kurtz, Sandy Lieberson (former Head of Production at 20th Century Fox), Dale Pollock (author of SKYWALKING), Producer Anthony Waye (JAMES BOND 007), David Prowse OBE (aka Darth Vader), as well as top critics and writers Wendy Ide (THE TIMES), Ian Freer (EMPIRE MAGAZINE), Todd Hanson (THE ONION), Glenn Kenny (formerly with PREMIERE) and Joe Leydon (JOE LEYDON’S GUIDE TO ESSENTIAL MOVIES YOU MUST SEE), THE PEOPLE vs. GEORGE LUCAS delves into the impassioned feelings and opinions expressed by fans and foes of legendary screen icon George Lucas, and the many debates surrounding his legacy.

This groundbreaking, 100% independent and first-ever digitally democratic documentary gives experts and the audience a voice to express their opinions about the single most powerful and influential filmmaker and mogul in movie history.

And as promised, here’s the teaser. Enjoy.

  • Looks like a fabulous documentary. I would say that I grew up loving Star Wars. I can’t say that I ever loved George Lucas, but I loved his creation, which was great up until the first Ewok toddled onto screen.

The prequels were excessively disappointing, and have caused me to severely curtail the purchasing of Star Wars merchandise. Damn, I used to buy action figures, now they’re packed in a closet.

I still really like the Star Wars universe and really believe that the movies helped “unlock my imagination” as a child. (I was 5 when I saw Star Wars in the theater.) Then, later I spent years in grade school fretting about Han Solo locked in carbonite. I even had a mark on my face for a long time from where my brother hit me with a makeshift light saber, but I didn’t even mind because it was from a Star Wars related incident.

Despite the flaws of the movies, there is a lot of great Star Wars entertainment out there. Some of the novels are cool, especially the Han Solo trilogy by Anne Crispin, and my husband and I have been loving paying the game The Force Unleashed on the Xbox.

From George Lucas, I’ve learned not to assume you’re good. You always have to work at it, and that slob slapped a shameless hack job on his fans and he will forever be reviled for it.

  • Yeah, he may have given us some crappy movies recently, but that can’t take away from the genius of American Graffiti.

  • Ed

You know, what did people expect?

Most of Lucas films are a bunch of crap to begin with.

Yes, even American Graffiti. He barely directed it and just pointed the camera at what was suppose to be the “action”. Then lets not forget that unwatchable film that was THX 1138. I tried to see it again when it hit DVD and I still can’t figure out why it is not sitting next to the Star Wars Christmas Special that George keeps inside a vault.

Star Wars… now thats a film that would’ve bombed under normal conditions. Yet in the 70’s the economy and political atmosphere was so bad that it made a lot of people just want to escape f’ing life. Let’s face it… SW was nothing but a glorified B movie. I believe that even Mark Hamill defined the films that way. B-movies with a Big budget… that fact became even more apparent with the prequels.

Then there was Howard the Duck. Once named the worse movie in history. Only to be forgotten by all and thus, easily replaced by Gigli (with Ben Afleck and Jennifer Lopez).

Then there was RotJ with the Ewoks… jesus. How about those dreadful Ewok TV movies that soon followed? Or the craptastic saturday morning cartoons (Droids & Ewoks). I can’t believe the Lucas haters forgot about those animated aberrations and think the recent CGi animated series is the worse thing Lucas has delivered.

So yeah… its funny that people have this idea that Lucas is this incredibly brilliant film maker and that he only started to go downhill since The Phantom Menace. When in reality, he was ALWAYS a mediocre filmmaker. The only reason that he hit the jackpot was because he’s very good at marketing his crap and making people believe that they can’t live without it.

So instead of going after Lucas, “the people” should just admit that they were fooled and that now, they need to get themselves a life. A real life.
