USA Today has been scoring the first looks lately — first they got their hands on the first image of Russell Crowe in Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood (Read: Geek Peek: Russell Crowe In Ridley Scott’s ‘Robin Hood’); and now they have an image of Robert Downey Jr. in a little movie from Jon Favreau called Iron Man 2. Not too much is known about what exactly Iron Man 2 will be about or what storyline it will follow, but we do know that it will take place six months after Tony Stark admitted to the world that he was Iron Man.
Here’s what Favreau had to say about that basic premise:
How many superheroes are open about their true identities? We wanted to play with that idea. But it obviously has consequences — in his relationships, on the team. There are a lot of areas we can explore.
Along with Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow is returning as Pepper Potts, and Samuel L. Jackson is back as Nick Fury. New members of the impressive cast include: Don Cheadle as James Rhodes/War Machine; Mickey Rourke as Whiplash; Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer; and Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow.
Iron Man 2 is currently filming and set for a May 7, 2010 release date!
