How To Save Your Favorite Shows Like ‘Chuck’ & ‘Dollhouse’
Season finales have all aired and the campaigns to save NBC’s Chuck and Fox’s Dollhouse were short lived as I’ve heard both will survive to see at least one more September. But what I want to point out before the news becomes stale is the underlying problem with how the networks currently judge a program’s worth.
Right now, the primary concern of television network executives are ratings via a standard broadcast during prime time hours. Those “ratings” primarily come from places like Nielsen, which means they select a group of individuals across the nation that will represent a good sample of the population and give them a box that records their viewing habits. That’s how they get their demographics by age and gender, two of the most useful pieces of information used to reel in advertisers.
I don’t know about most of you, but I’m 25 years old and I’ve never once met anyone who had one of these Nielsen boxes. The closest I’ve come to even understanding how the whole process even works is due to an episode of Roseanne where the family got a Nielsen box and proceeded keep it tuned to PBS to mess with the statistics [...]

A Look Back At James Cameron’s ‘The Terminator’
Since our prehistoric ancestors first learned how to use tools and then learned that those tools could also be used as killing implements mankind has always been at war in some form or another. From the battlefields of our nation and many others around the world to the pages of superhero comic books and the flickering lights of the silver screen, epic battles have been fought and fearsome adversaries have been encountered and either conquered or embraced as an ally. Sometimes the greatest enemies can be the ones we create for ourselves, stored in our active imaginations until they can be loosed on an unsuspecting world. Oftentimes there can be no greater enemies than the ones we become out of the necessity to feed our weaknesses and satiate our egos.
Enter James Cameron’s 1984 scifi classic The Terminator .
The machines rose from the ashes of the nuclear fire. Their war to exterminate mankind had raged for decades, but the final battle would not be fought in the future. It would be fought here, in our present. Tonight…
Once upon a time future, self-proclaimed “king of the world” James Cameron was screwed six ways to Sunday [...]

Sam Raimi Is On A Mission For ‘Spider-Man 4′
While out promoting his newest horror offering, Drag Me to Hell, Sam Raimi spoke to Cinematical and the inevitable topic of Spider-Man 4 came to the table.
While no real details about the movie emerged, Raimi made some interesting remarks in regard to his own work on the Spider-Man franchise, and what he hopes to accomplish with a fourth film. In his comments, Raimi seems to be eternally apologizing for his mistakes, where he went wrong, and how passionately he is about making up for it. This of course all stems from Spider-Man 3, which was and still remains to be one of the most negatively criticized superhero movies ever to be made.
I honestly feel badly for Raimi while reading this quote; it’s almost like he requires the fans’ forgiveness and the re-acquiring of their faith and loyalty.
Here’s Raimi on the mistakes he’s made and the lessons he’s learned:
As far as Spider-Man, I’ve learned a lot of lessons about what people didn’t like and missteps that I’d made. [...]

‘Boondock Saints 2′ To Have ‘Enter the Dragon’ Showdown; In Theaters By Fall?
J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek actor Clifton Collins Jr. spoke to MTV recently about his work on the cult super-sequel to The Boondock Saints, Boondock Saints 2: All Saints Day. Collins Jr. mentions how he was able to see a rough cut at director Troy Duffy‘s house on Saint Patrick’s Day (what I would have given to be at that party), and went on to talk about his favorite parts, when we might see the movie, and how Duffy took it to another level.
While no official word has been dropped yet, Collins Jr. admitted that he had once heard that All Saints Day would be fittingly released on the November 1st holiday of the same name, but because the film was considered so “hot” right now, it may be let loose even earlier than that, and he’s even sure it will be released theatrically. We can only hope this is true. That would mean a trailer very soon, and the movie within four to five months. Considering how long we’ve been waiting for this movie, it seems so very unlikely that it would be that easy, but if it’s really damn good, why the hell not! [...]

Robert Pattison Confirms Fourth ‘Twilight’ Movie ‘Breaking Dawn’
The steps are simple: obtain the rights to an ultra-popular book series; make a movie based on the book series; laugh as hordes of teenagers spend hundreds of millions of dollars seeing your movie; and of course, plan for lots more movies. Cake.
While in France at the Cannes Film Festival, Twilight star Robert Pattison confirmed that he is indeed signed on to star in a fourth movie in the series, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. Currently, Pattison is filming the final few days on New Moon — the second film in the franchise — before taking some time off and working on other projects before returning to his Twilight world to begin filming the third film, Eclipse, in the fall.
Naturally, going by the aforementioned steps, this shouldn’t be making any jaws drop. Even if the world of Twilight never reaches its Harry Potter aspirations, they’re already popular enough to make a movie based on any and every book that exists, AND any that have yet to be written. Breaking Dawn is the fourth and final book in the series, but I fully expect more to be on their way. [...]

Rumor-Busting: Eliza Dushku & Alyssa Milano Not In ‘Ghostbusters 3′
The LA Times was able to speak to Dan Aykroyd recently and many good bits of information in regards to Ghostbusters 3 came of it.
One of these bits was that not one, but maybe even two females might be joining the team of new Ghostbuster recruits, and Aykroyd pegged Eliza Dushku and Alyssa Milano as two he would love to see take up the parts. Aykroyd simply states “I think they’re amazing, and I’m excited about the whole idea of getting this done,” so by no means did he say that they were in it, just that they were great choices — especially with Milano having voiced a part in the upcoming video game.
Well, apparently this made its way around the web pretty quickly, and had many thinking that the two lovely ladies were going to be in the movie, and unfortunately, that’s not the case…yet. Via their Twitter accounts, both Dushku and Milano denied the reports. This is definitely not to say something won’t come around in the future, but for now, they’re both unaware of anything happening. [...]

Shane Acker’s ’9’ Gets A Second Trailer To Adore
It was only a matter of time before we finally got a second trailer of the fantastic looking animated movie from Shane Acker, 9, and what do you know…here it is. The trailer is pretty similar to the original trailer that we saw (presentation wise) but there’s plenty of new images to take in, and that’s all that really matters.
9 stars Elijah Wood, John C. Reilly, Jennifer Connelly, Martin Landau, Christopher Plummer, and Crispin Glover. It is based on the short film by Acker and produced by both Tim Burton and Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov. Pamela Pettler (Corpse Bride, Monster House) wrote the script.

Watch Now! First Trailer For Guy Ritchie’s ‘Sherlock Holmes’
The much-anticipated first trailer for Guy Ritchie‘s Sherlock Holmes has finally been released to the masses courtesy of Yahoo! Movies.
We all knew this was probably going to be a fun movie, but I have to admit, it looks even better than I expected. It has a great feel to it and they definitely nailed the 1800s action I was hoping for. It also shows off some of the humor we can expect to see. Along with the look of a great new Sherlock Holmes adventure, you definitely can sense the touch of Guy Ritchie — it absolutely looks like one of his worlds.
The movie is a new, fast-paced re-envisioning of the classic Arthur Conan Doyle character with a lot more action fueling the story than any Sherlock fan has ever been used to. This is the first movie in what’s hoping to become a new successful franchise; telling the origins of Sherlock Holmes, his work, and his trusty right-hand man, Watson. [...]

Kenneth Branagh Casts Tom Hiddleston As Loki To Battle ‘Thor’
href=”http://www.deadlinehollywooddaily.com/toldja-marvel-studios-about-to-announce-chris-hemsworth-as-thor/” target=”blank”>Nikki Finke again has received word that director Kenneth Branagh has now cast another unknown actor in the role of Loki: Tom Hiddleston. The London actor is actually listed on IMDB as rumored to be playing Thor, which means he was probably seen having lunch with Branagh at some point recently. Apparently whomever saw the two together, forgot that there would also be other roles to be filled. Fancy that.
Hiddleston really hasn’t done anything in the U.S., with his most notable appearance being an HBO mini-series called The Gathering Storm in the role of Winston Churchill’s son. The winning connection here is that he has also appeared in the London stage production of Ivanov alongside Mr. Branagh. What better way to audition than to perform with a director before you know he’s going to direct a movie that technically doesn’t exist yet? [...]

BioWare’s Prelude To E3 ‘Mass Effect 2′ Video; New Footage & Concept Art Included
The team behind Mass Effect 2 sat down for a cool new video preview of what to expect out of the mecca for all of the biggest video game reveals of the year: E3.
In the video, the team discusses the improvements you will see: the immediate notice of a better playing game; the demo some will be able to play at the convention; new weapons we’ll be able to use; the A.I. enhancements and how enemies will react; how much darker the game is visually, in tone, and musically; new species of aliens that will be featured; and the much-talked about feature that allows your stats from the first game to set the foundation of your sequel adventure — most notably, the absence of any of the characters who perished in Mass Effect.
Keep in mind, this is just a preview video and no real details are given, they’re just telling you what’s coming and what will probably be unveiled at E3. For a prelude video, I assure you, it’s exciting to watch. I can only imagine what will come out of E3! Plus, there’s some new footage and concept art to peek at. [...]

‘Firefly’ & ‘Lost’ To Converge On Newly Greenlit ‘V’ TV Remake
It appears that some good, hard work went into the pilot for a possible TV remake of the short-running ’80s cult hit V. ABC has now officially given the greenlight for the show to return to our screens in one form or another (explained later) at some point in the near future. For a while, fans of the show were both happy and worried that a pilot was ordered for the remake, but no guarantees were to be had. Now it appears as they have just that.
V is the science fiction story of an alien race known as the Visitors, who attempt to take over Earth. The leader of this race — an alien who is very smart and educated on human cultures — is captured by what will apparently be a pair of Homeland Security agents, and put on trial for her actions.
Firefly‘s Morena Baccarin was the first casting announcement that we heard about (Read: ‘Firefly Companion Morena Baccarin Cast In ‘V’). Morena will be taking on the role of the alien leader mentioned above — a role that should be pretty large and visible for our Firefly friend. [...]

New ‘Star Trek’ Shown At The White House & Beamed Aboard ISS
The new Star Trek has arrived at the White House and all the way up to the International Space Station.
Paramount transferred Star Trek, which opened in theaters last weekend, earlier this week to NASA‘s Mission Control in Houston, which then uplinked the film to the space station where NASA astronaut Michael Barratt can then watch the movie on a laptop computer inside the Unity module, 220 miles above Earth.
“I remember watching the original ‘Star Trek’ series and, like many of my NASA coworkers, was inspired by the idea of people from all nations coming together to explore space,” said Barratt. “‘Star Trek’ blended adventure, discovery, intelligence and story telling that assumes a positive future for humanity. The International Space Station is a real step in that direction, with many nations sharing in an adventure the world can be proud of.”
President Obama watched the new Star Trek movie at the White House’s movie theater and he told Newsweek that he thought the film was good. In a Q&A with the magazine, the President acknowledged how the media has been saying that he is like the logical Vulcan Spock and he even gave the Vulcan salute [...]

DVD Review: ‘Caprica’
Caprica
Directed by Jeffrey Reiner
Starring Eric Stoltz, Esai Morales, Alessandra Toreson, Paula Malcomson, Polly Walker, Sina Najafi, Magda Apanowicz
Universal Studios Home Entertainment
Release Date: April 21, 2009
“Find those things in life that make you cry.
That make you feel.
Because they’re what make you human.”
What is it to follow one of the greatest shows ever created? That is the task given to Caprica, and it is not an easy one. The show, which is set to air its first season in 2010, is a prequel/spin-off of the now-completed Ronald D. Moore and David Eick brilliance that was Battlestar Galactica. But to ease the waiting period just a little itty bit, the first episode — in the form of a two-hour-ish long movie — has been released on DVD, and I have the ultimate geek honor of reviewing it.
Caprica takes place 58 years before the BSG storyline picks up. It’s much simpler, much more similar time to our own time, aside from some sweet technologies (computerized tennis courts with robo-refs? Let’s get on that one, scientists!). The story follows two men, Daniel Graystone (Eric Stoltz) and Joseph Adama (Esai Morales), who meet in the wake of severe tragedy involving their families [...]

Kenneth Branagh Finds His ‘Thor’ In Chris Hemsworth
The discussion as to who exactly director Kenneth Branagh would cast in the title role of his upcoming Marvel adaptation of Thor has been floating around for quite a while now. It seemed likely that the best match, and most probable candidate for the role was True Blood‘s Alexander Skarsgård, who had the look and size of what you would expect of Thor. Now comes official word via Nikki Finke that Thor has been cast, and it is Chris Hemsworth who will be playing him.
Hemsworth is an Australian actor who we’re not familiar with in these parts yet, but that’s not likely to last long. Like his fellow countryman Sam Worthington (who is also fairly unknown, but is appearing in Terminator Salvation, Avatar, Clash of the Titans and others), Hemsworth has an impressive resume building before most of the movies are even released. He can be seen appearing as George Kirk (James T.’s dad) in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek; next up is Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard’s Cabin in the Woods, which he’s currently filming; and lastly, he was just cast as the lead in the upcoming Red Dawn remake [...]

Size Comparison Of The International Space Station To Fictional Space Crafts
A while back, Gizmodo had the brilliant idea to find the actual size specs of fictional space crafts and create a chart comparing their size to our own very real International Space Station. Now with the the release of Star Trek and the presentation of a new, much larger USS Enterprise, they’ve decided to do the same thing. Click the image to go bigger, but click the link above to go to the site and see the full-size jumbo version!
Size Comparisons Of The Space Crafts Of ‘Star Trek,’ ‘Star Wars,’ ‘Battlestar Galactica,’ & Real Life!
As it turns out, the old Battlestar Galactica‘s ship is the one being used for the chart. It was found out later that the new Galactica measures 1,438.64 meters — almost 1,000 meters longer than the new Enterprise, and very close to the 1,600 (about a mile) meter Imperial Star Destroyer from Star Wars.
I hope Gizmodo soon has a chart that includes the new Galactica and the Star Destroyer. It would be very interesting to see how they dwarf these other, very massive ships. It’s also cool to see just how big the International Space Station is. You could go even further and add man-made cities and worlds like the Death Star and the Citadel from Mass Effect [...]
