Want To Watch Five Minutes Of ‘Terminator Salvation’?

The Movie God   |

From today, May 11, until May 30 the Pizza Hut Terminator Salvation website will have a five-minute video up which is mostly footage mixed with a little behind the scenes action.

The video, which you can watch here below, begins with the footage, which is basically a look at the scene with Marcus (Sam Worthington) and Kyle (Anton Yelchin) at that run down gas station with the massive Harvester. It’s a pretty intense scene, and certainly worth a peek. After the footage, there’s a mini behind the scenes feature which shows you what went into making the actual scene and how much work director McG put into making as much of it real, physical, and non-CGI as he possibly could. That effort to make the movie old-school is one of the high selling-points here, and it’s a good sign for the finished product and for McG’s dedication [...]

Geek Art: ‘Star Trek’ Spock Spools

Empress Eve   |

Now this is totally cool!

New York-based artist Devorah Sperber created an upside down tapestry made of 1,102 colored spools of thread. In front of it is a glass ball, that when you look through it, the spools are condensed and the image flipped to show Leonard Nimoy as Spock from the original Star Trek television series.

Per Sperber‘s site, the piece of art is titled Spock 1. The piece, along with two other Spock creations, was a part of her Mirror Universe exhibition, named so for the 1967 Star Trek episode [...]

The A-List Effect: Has Christian Bale Saved Or Cursed ‘Terminator Salvation’?

The Movie God   |

THR has an interesting report regarding Terminator Salvation, director McG, and superstar lead Christian Bale. Apparently, the original script for the fourth film in the franchise was built around the main character of Marcus Wright (now being played by Sam Worthington), with the role of John Connor not being that large. When McG went to meet with Christian Bale, it was in an attempt to get him for that main role of Marcus, not Connor. This is where the project was seemingly grasped by Bale and taken from McG in a sense, as Bale decided that he wanted to play John Connor and add him into the story more.

This news got my brain to turning and wondering, how much has Christian Bale affected Terminator Salvation, whether positively or negatively?

On one hand, there’s the possibility that Bale was the one that recognized flaws in the story and demanded the changes that could make Terminator a critical success as well as the box office blockbuster it’s already destined to become. [...]

Spoiler Talk: Explanations For 10 Gripes People Have About The New ‘Star Trek’ Film

Empress Eve   |

Ok, so I’m extending the Week of Geek Star Trek edition by one more day, because after two viewings of the new film and countless comments and forum posts I’ve read about it, I felt I should address some of the likes and dislikes about the JJ Abrams‘ prequel/reboot that people have expressed.

When I went to see the new Star Trek twice this weekend, I snarked not. I’m not saying that it’s a perfectly crafted story with no plot holes and no highly improbably scenarios. I’m just saying that the film was so entertaining for me on a whole that while watching it, I was never taken out of the story by those “WTF?” moments that every single film has. And, I really thought I would, because I typically can’t get down with time-travel stories. Yeah, I love me some Back To The Future and Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, but those are comedies. You don’t fear the time-travel complications the way you do in a movie like Star Trek, where lives can be altered permanently and you can’t just laugh off the consequences.

But, like I said, every film has those “WTF?” moments, and for Star Trek, I’m seeing posts and comments all over the internet about people’s issues with the film. Some of these queries into the film are more easily answered than others. Therefore, here’s some possible explanations for 10 issues consistently noted by people who’ve seen the film, as well as a list of why the new Star Trek film is all right with me.

WARNING: This article contains mega-SPOILERS, so if you haven’t seen the new Star Trek, enter at your own risk. There be SPOILERS here, Admiral! [...]

Brett Ratner Off ‘Conan’ Remake; James McTeigue In?

The Movie God   |

If you’ll recall, everyone’s favorite director, Brett Ratner, had a pile of movies on his desk, including: God of War, Beverly Hills Cop 4, Youngblood, a Hugh Hefner biopic, some heist movie, and the Conan reboot. Since accumulating this variety pack of projects to do, he’s killed his God of War project, and now comes word that he will not be directing Conan anymore either. And a smile gently formed upon my face. While Ratner still has more than enough work to choose from, at least now two of the more cherished properties are removed from his grasp. Now fans of the Beverly Hills Cop franchise just need to wish upon a star.

Empire Magazine spoke to Joe Gatta, producer of Conan as well as the Red Sonja re-imagining. Gatta had this to say about Ratner directing Conan:

We’re currently in the process of hiring a director. For the past six months we were discussing the movie with Brett Ratner, and for more timing issues than anything else we had to part ways with Brett. We all wanted him to do it, believe me; just the timing didn’t work. But you never know what can happen. [...]

Rumor Killing Madness! McG, Rob Zombie Clarify ‘H2′ & ‘Terminator Salvation’ Confusions

The Movie God   |

Apparently this weekend was the national Directors Confirm/Deny/Elaborate Rumors day.

Two of the more news-worthy bits that had come about recently, involved two of this summer’s big blockbusters. One involved Rob Zombie‘s H2: Halloween 2, in which we were told that Michael Myers would actually be mask-less for the majority of the movie (Read: Wait, What? Michael Myers To Be Without Mask For Most Of ‘H2′?). Then there’s Terminator Salvation, which has had a couple of big stories regarding the movie’s ending — one involved some insanity with John Connor (Christian Bale), the other being when director McG made it very clear that some people would probably hate how the movie ends, hinting at a big cliffhanger.

/Film had the opportunity to have a little chit-chat with Mr. Zombie recently, where he cleared the air on the whole mask-less Myers rumor for everyone who was worried.

It is total bullshit. [laughs] See, I think Wayne Toth [SFX] said [70% mask-less] when you guys were down on the set. Wayne wasn’t bullshitting you, but that was taken out of context, and to an extreme [online]. We’ve filmed so much stuff and at this point nobody but me knows what we’re going to use or not use. There are more shots of Michael Myers running around in his mask in this movie than in any of the other movies. [...]

Ode to An Absent Space Captain – 6 Reasons Why Bill Shatner Is The Greatest Performer of All Time

Tom Cheredar   |

The career of William Alan Shatner will be nothing short of legendary when people read about him in history books at the turn of the next century. How is it that one man can achieve so much all the while at the same time giving you the feeling that he’s not really taking a single one of his performances seriously. Actor, singer, songwriter, stand up comedian, negotiator of pricelines — and let’s not forget the role that created a now fabled science fiction archetype: The Space Captain.

So you can imagine the heartbreak we Geeks of Doom felt upon hearing that The Shat had not been asked to join the cast of the new Star Trek film. The Federation may have a new Kirk sitting in the Enterprise, but it’s impossible to forget the Shat’s epic mark on the world. Below are just six reasons why Bill Shatner is the greatest performer of all-time. [Feel free to comment with additional reasons.] [...]

Video: Turk From ‘Scrubs’ Pitches ‘The Chronicles of Lando Calrissian’

Empress Eve   |

Donald Faison, who plays Turk on the television comedy Scrubs, made an appearance last week on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon promoting his new movie Next Day Air, which is up against Star Trek this weekend.

Faison said that he was more a Star Wars fan than a Trek fan and that he’s seen The Empire Strikes Back, his favorite movie of the saga, over 300 times. He said it was his love of the film that introduced him to stop-motion animation, which he learned to do as a child and even has a stop-motion animation studio in his home now.

Faison said if he were to pitch a Star Wars story to George Lucas, it would be The Chronicles of Lando Calrissian, starring himself as the title character and taking place prior the events of Empire when Lando still had the Millennium Falcon before he lost it to Han Solo in a Sabacc game. To help his pitch, he even created a short stop-motion animated clip, which he showed on the late night talk show.

The stop-motion clip is cute and adorable and Faison’s pitch is quite honestly something I’ve LOVE to see made into a television series. You can watch the interview segment with Faison, which includes the stop-motion clip, at the end of this entry.

For those of you interested, there’s already a trilogy of pre-Empire Lando Calrissian books written by L. Neil Smith called Star Wars: The Lando Calrissian Adventures, which you can get for only $7.99 — definitely worth the read [...]

Keanu Reeves To Star In New ‘Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde’

The Movie God   |

With a new 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, two new Sherlock Holmes, and various other new movies based on classic literature on the way, it should come as no shock that a new movie based on the Robert Louis Stevenson novella The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is on the way. The project already has Keanu Reeves lined up to star, and Justin Haythe (Revolutionary Road) penning the script.

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde tells the tale of a doctor who discovers a way to alter himself, allowing his evil, inner-self the ability to take over in vicious fashion. The story deals heavily along the lines of split personality disorders, but in a much more physical, visible, and scary way.

The story has appeared many, many times in stage and screen adaptations — a true testament to the simple and unique-yet brilliant creation of Robert Louis Stevenson. Two unfortunate appearances of the character were in recent lackluster films such as Van Helsing and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. [...]

Check Out The ‘My Little Pony’ Live-Action Movie Trailer!

The Movie God   |

Right, so if you’ve gotten this far, we thank you for sticking with us!

There’s not actually a My Little Pony live-action movie being made right now, that was all just silliness. But in celebration of the many ’80s toy titles that are on the way, including: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra, a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and the Candyland movie — Secret Sauce has taken the liberty of creating their own trailer for what a My Little Pony live-action trailer would indeed look like.

The trailer has all the joy, nostalgia and complete cheese you would hope and expect in a Pony movie. It was built with the obvious suggestion that it’s the newest franchise from Michael Bay, complete with hot chicks, explosions, shots of earth from space, flaming asteroids shooting across the sky, the lives of all humanity in danger, and some hot chicks. Movie Review: Star Trek (2009)

Three-D   |

Commanding attraction from a once commendable television franchise, which, up until 2009, has seen countless diffident reboots, is Star Trek, a new perpetual powerhouse film that is an imaginative mix of futuristic grandeur and old-fashioned history. The movie echoes the unmistakable freshness of a distinctive and original action picture while still pertaining to the origins of a forty-year-old series that will still satisfy die hard Trekkie fans and lay a new slate for first timers.

The creative imagination behind the TV series Lost and action pictures like M.I. III is J.J. Abrams, and he is at the forefront of reconstructing a partly departed and retroactive, iconic television series from the 60s. Sounds appetizing when given the amount of numerous failed attempts at reincarnating the Enterprise; the last being 2002′s Star Trek: Nemesis. Abrams recognizes those films’ faults and is up to the challenge to fathom a dissimilar approach to a decades old problem that hindered most Star Trek movies.

Star Trek: A Look At The Original 6 Films

Henchman21   |

We all know that even number Star Trek movies are good, while odd number movies tend to suck, so we it’s easy to see why longtime Trek fans would be anxious about the upcoming JJ Abrams prequel/reboot film, which is the eleventh movie of the franchise.

But, because the film, which opened in theaters today, is really a reboot there’s still some measure of hope that the pattern will be broken. So, what of the six films starring the original cast (discounting Generations, which had original cast members, but was really a Next Generation film)? Here’s my personal take on each of the original six Star Trek movies, along with my favorite line from each film [...]

Stephen Colbert Tells Us Which Movies Are Destroying America; Chats With J.J. Abrams About ‘Star Trek’

The Movie God   |

On a recent episode of The Colbert Report, Stephen Colbert listed off a few movies coming out soon that are a danger to America. To be fair, he also includes one movie that’s good for our country. After the silliness, Colbert heads over to chat with a one Mr. J.J. Abrams about his upcoming Star Trek venture.

I’m a huge fan of the Daily Show/Colbert Report weeknight tag-team, so on the rare occasion movies come into the mix, it’s always a fun thing to share with the masses.

While the dangerous movie bit is worth a few giggles, the real gem is the Abrams interview. Colbert asks a few decent questions and J.J. even talks about how he was never a Trek fan growing up (something that sets Trekkies on fire, I’m sure), but the real fun when Abrams is a sport and joins Colbert in a little Romulan skit.

Get Ready For The New ‘Star Trek’

Empress Eve   |

The new Star Trek film is only one day away from its official release in theaters, and if you’re not already familiar with Trek you have a little bit of catching up to do. Luckily, not too much though, because this film, directed by JJ Abrams, is a prequel AND it’s a reboot of the franchise, so no matter what, you won’t be lost.

But, for those of you who want to gear up for the film and also get acquainted with some of the new film’s supplemental material, here’s some ideas and information for you [...]

‘Green Lantern’ Gets Pushed Back Six; May Have Its Star

The Movie God   |

It seems like The Green Lantern — as well as The Green Hornet for that matter — have been in-development for a decade now, with forward progress strictly fueled by rumors and collapsible plans. This is no different today, as the latest news has the Lantern getting a big push-back to accompany it’s latest leading man casting rumor.

The movie is an adaptation of the classic comic book following various men who wield a ring of power. This particular project will follow ring-bearer Hal Jordan, a fighter pilot who was given his ring by a dying alien who had crashed on earth.

The Green Lantern was originally set for a December 17, 2010 release date, but considering not much has officially been taken care of, it has now been re-set for a June 17, 2011 release. This will allow the movie to find its cast, set everything in stone, and take the time to do it right instead of finding themselves in a chaos…hopefully.

Speaking of cast — HitFix has done a little sleuthing and discovered that the main man in line for the role of Hal Jordan could be Bradley Cooper. [...]

Deadpool Spin-Off Movie Finally Confirmed

The Movie God   |

Before his appearance in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, there were plenty of talks about doing a movie based on the fan-favorite character of Deadpool. Now, right on the heels of the announcement that Hugh Jackman is developing a sequel to Wolverine, it’s being reported that Deadpool is in fact also in development.

While some hardcore fans aren’t big on Ryan Reynolds in the role, most fans seem to like the look and enjoy his ability to drop well-timed sarcastic remarks. The huge question here is: who makes the movie and what will it cover? One of the mammoth dislikes that fans seem to have about the new Wolverine, is what they did with Deadpool. Will they carry over what they did in that movie, or is this going to be a completely new Deadpool venture?

One positive hope you can take with you is the words of a source at Fox who describes the project as “…a complete exploration of this unique character — his origins, his emergence as the Merc with the Mouth.”

The character of Deadpool is very much similar to Wolverine. [...]
