Patton Oswalt moderated the Disney panel, which included a segment on Tim Burton‘s Alice In Wonderland. Director Tim Burton made a scheduled appearance, but as a surprise for the audience, one Mr. Johnny Depp came out.

Depp just came out and waved for a moment, but that was enough for this rapid audience, which had just seen new footage from the film twice. (Check out the description of the footage* here below.)

Burton mentioned that while we were able to enjoy the amazing 3D of the film, Depp is not able to (he’s color-blind).

Burton had explained that he used ideas and storylines from Lewis Carroll’s classic Alice In Wonderland tale and its sequel Through The Looking Glass, as well as poems like Jabberwocky.

Footage Description

The footage opens on Depp as the Mad Hatter, opening his eyes, then walking. On the screen it says, “There’s a place like no place on Earth.” Hatter says to Alice, “”You’re terribly late. Naughty.” The song “Kids” by MGMT plays as Alice falls down the rabbit hole. “You’ve got an important date” flashes on the screen. We see the White Rabbit and Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dum walking with Alice, then Alice standing with the White Queen (Anne Hathaway). Then Alice picks up the bottle and drinks from it, then shrinks. “That’s impossible,” Alice says. “Only if you believe it is,” says Hatter. More footage with the Queen of Hearts and Cheshire Cat. Ends with Hatter throw open runners that open into the 3D title credits “Go through the looking glass March 5, 2010” and the 2010 part has the Cheshire Cat eyes and grin in it.
