Remember that news recently about a Gothic-style makeover of the story of Little Red Riding Hood (Read: Tale Of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ Set For A Dark Re-Telling)? Remember how it kind of had a cool vibe to it, like when we find out that Tim Burton is remaking something? Well, it appears that the movie may not be exactly what we might have hoped it would be.
It’s being reported that ousted Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke has been signed to helm this Red Riding Hood movie. New information about the project sets its title as The Girl With the Red Riding Hood, which will be the previously-mentioned Gothic-style re-envisioning that has some type of love triangle at the center of its story. Considering there’s only a few traditional characters that are typically used, this love triangle is a tad unsettling to think about.
While this news is rather depressing for me as someone who had high hopes for the movie and seeing more fairy tales get the same kind of treatment, it will surely thrill others who are fans of the director. Hardwicke has also directed Thirteen, Lords of Dogtown, and The Nativity Story before moving on to Twilight. The sequel, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, decided to drop Hardwicke and move in a different direction with director Chris Weitz (The Golden Compass).
What do you guys think? Will Hardwicke turn Little Red Riding Hood into a Twilight-esq tween drama with a possible love triangle between Red, the Big Bad Wolf, and Grandma? Or does her style actually fit well-enough where you’re still interested in seeing where this one goes?
