Miss ‘Beavis & Butt-head’? Watch Them Promote Mike Judge’s ‘Extract’!

The Movie God   |

Being a teenage most of the ’90s, I was obsessed with Mike Judge‘s Beavis & Butt-head to a pathetic level. Even in high school, I occasionally answered a random question in Science or English class while speaking in one or the other’s distinctive voice, which was returned with sure-fire scolding from fellow classmates. The show, which only ran from 1993 to 1997, is one that many consider canceled way too early.

If you’re like me and still miss the show, then any kind of special “appearance” the animated duo make is worthy of celebration, so light off some fireworks, friends, because Beavis and Butt-head are back to help promote Judge’s new movie, Extract.

The clip is only a few minutes long, but it’s more classic Beavis and Butt-head than it is Extract. Be warned, Mr. Head sets up the clip in detailed fashion, which some may consider spoilers, but I think it’s safe to say most of you shouldn’t worry about it. [...]

Con Report: Official ‘Twilight’ Convention (NJ)

The Geeks of Doom   |

The Official Twilight Convention, held in Parsippany, NJ this past weekend, was my very first convention experience of any kind, so I had no idea what to expect. It did not disappoint. (See my brief report from the Con from the first night — Official ‘Twilight’ Convention Underway In NJ…; also check out all my images from the Con at the end of this post).

The event was hosted by the Hillywood cast, and they made it a great time, showing their uber popular Twilight parody and performing scenes from the movie before introducing the guests.

The first Q&A I had the pleasure of attending was with Gil Birmingham, who plays Jacob’s dad, Billy Black. He made a point of saying what a great kid Taylor Lautner (Jacob Black) is and how unaffected he seems to be by all the chaos surrounding him (may I say now that EVERY TIME Taylor’s name came up…it was met with significant squeals from the primarily female audience). He mentioned Breaking Dawn and how he’d be busy for the next few years between Eclipse and Breaking Dawn, adding more fuel to the rumors (hope…please please please) that there will in fact be a movie for the fourth book. Gil apparently spends a good amount of time with the Wolf Pack boys, and he and Alex Meraz (Paul) have a little battle of embarrassing facts going on at these conventions [...]

Paul W.S. Anderson To Bring ‘The Three Musketeers’ To 3-D

The Movie God   |

Paul W.S. Anderson, who is best known for his work as a writer, director, and producer in the world of video game movies, is lining up a new project to bring us a fresh take on the tale of The Three Musketeers, and it appears that it as well, will be in 3-D.

The Three Musketeers was first created in 1844 by Alexandre Dumas, and tells the tale of a man named D’Artagnan who wants to become a member of the King of France’s royal forces. While on his task, he meets a trio named Athos, Porthos, and Aramis, who are members of the Royal Guard and challenge him to a duel. Their competition is disrupted, but enough is seen for the Three Musketeers to welcome D’Artagnan in as a friend and fight by his side.

The project is a strange one for Anderson, though it’s not clear whether he will direct this or not. At the current, it appears that he is only producing it based on a script he wrote with his friend and Bridget Jones’ Diary scribe, Andrew Davies. [...]

Jon Favreau, Robert Downey Jr. May Re-Team For ‘Cowboys & Aliens’

The Movie God   |

A little over a year ago, it was reported that Robert Downey Jr. was attached to star in an adaptation of the Scott Mitchell Rosenberg graphic novel, Cowboys & Aliens. It appears now that his Iron Man and Iron Man 2 director Jon Favreau may be hoping to join the party as well.

Nothing is official yet, but it would be a great job for anyone to land, considering the veritable powerhouse studio tag-team of DreamWorks, Universal (and possibly Paramount for distribution) and larger-than-life producing group of Brian Grazer and Ron Howard of Imagine Entertainment, as well as Steven Spielberg. Also producing is Rosenberg and Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci [...]

Fox Announces Plans To Reboot Their ‘Fantastic Four’ Franchise

The Movie God   |

Fantastic Four is a 2005 movie that starred Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, and Michael Chiklis and was followed by the 2007 sequel 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer — both of which made fairly large amounts of money, but weren’t loved by critics. Many seemed to think the properties were a little too cheesy, and rumors began to swirl about a possible reboot only a few years after the first movies were produced. This rumor is now a reality, as just on the heels of the massive Disney acquisition of Marvel Studios, Fox has officially announced their plans to give the Fantastic Four franchise a makeover.

Batman Forever, Batman & Robin, and I Am Legend writer Akiva Goldsman has been brought in to oversee the reboot. This is an interesting move — as you can see, Goldsman’s track record with superheroes and summer blockbusters is a little rocky, but on the other end of the spectrum, he has also co-written Oscar winners and nominees like A Beautiful Mind and Cinderella Man. No specifics on how much his work as an “overseer” might maneuver the final product. [...]

Making Comics Mobile: Q&A With Crispy Comics Founder

Tom Cheredar   |

The first experience most people will have with reading comics on their smart phone will probably be a preexisting story adapted from a printed comic book. And so it almost goes without saying that a lot of people are going to F#%^& hate reading comics on an iPhone (and/or competing hand held devices for the Apple haters out there).

There will be excess flicking, pinching and tapping to fully consume what would have taken mere moments on a 17 x 26 cm page. The fonts will be too small, the word bubbles will take up the entire screen to legibly read and you’ll chuckle in frustration at the thought of paying $0.99 for an entire issue. But in all honesty, comic book pages should never have been adapted to your phone anyhow… not without proper tweaks and re-proportioning.

However, if by chance your first experience reading a mobile comic was anything like Super Kaiju Hero Force, then it’s likely you were pleasantly entertained without feeling overwhelmed by the size limitation of the device. This is because Super Kaiju was created specifically for a smart phone — not a printed & stapled comic book. Even if the style of art isn’t your cup of tea and you loath anything having to do with a super-hero plot line, you have to give credit to the creators for formulating a thoughtful, multi-part story that utilizes the mobile technology.

I spoke to Casey Lau, Super Kaiju co-creator and founder of Crispy Comics, about his efforts and how creators have barely scratched the surface of this new medium [...]

Welcome To Hollywood East: A Look At New England’s Plymouth Rock Studios

The Movie God   |

If you’re not familiar with the story, for a long while now, the plan to build a gigantic new movie and TV studio on the East Coast has been fast in motion. The goal was to have this huge facility similar to that of a the legendary Hollywood production studios that would allow the big time film and television producers out there a legitimate option to always shooting out West. It took quite a while to get things lined up, and changes had to be made in the state’s former tax and financial set-up to make it appealing enough, but all hurdles were cleared and the massive project was approved. The development is currently moving right along at its Plymouth, Massachusetts location, and the $500 Million Plymouth Rock Studios is heading straight for a Fall 2010 opening planned.

So what exactly will this brand new high-tech, completely “Green,” eco-friendly LEED studio complex offer to those who set up shop there for big projects? [...]
