And for this movie to work, I think Clark Griswold shouldn't be as "dumb" as he appeared to be in Vegas Vacation. With Vacation, European Vacation and Christmas Vacation, Clark at least demonstrated some intelligence. He just bungled through everything and wound up in awkward situations. I feel like Vegas Vacation was a turning point and that they made his character an oblivious fool. I didn't like that so much but I find some humor in it because at least Cousin Eddie finally had a mental equal (watching them try to win money back at that shady casion cracks me up every time!). Unfortunately, they made Cousin Eddie even dumber for Christmas Vacation 2 and completely ruined any potential for that sequel. I just feel like there needs to be some level of intelligence in these movies somewhere. Growing up with these characters always made me compare their family to mine. I always saw a glimmer of Clark Griswold in my own father and for me, it helped that Clarks heart and mind were always in the right place but that shit just happened to him regardless of his intentions. I would LOVE IT if they got him to play the role. I think with cameos by Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angela, this movie might actually be something good.
