Edward James Olmos Severely Raises The Bar For ‘The Plan’ & How We Can See More ‘Battlestar Galactica’

The Movie God   |

BSG

Some reports have been making their way around the internet today that actor and director Edward James Olmos has been talking about the possibility of more Battlestar Galactica stories coming if his new prequel movie, Battlestar Galactica: The Plan does really well tomorrow on DVD (stay tuned for our review soon!).

To be fair, if you’ll recall, Olmos appeared on Attack of the Show! back at the beginning of August (Read: Could Big Numbers For ‘The Plan’ Mean More ‘Battlestar Galactica’?) and made this same announcement, so it’s not really news. What is new in all of this, is how many more DVDs he is now saying need to be sold (a LOT more) in order to get more BSG and some information what stories we might be able to see exactly.

While talking to Collider, Olmos upped the number that Universal Studios told him need to be sold from the original 350,000-500,000 he told Attack of the Show! to a whopping 5 Million! You could be assume that this is an overall numerical accomplishment and not just the movie’s release date numbers he first mentioned. There’s no doubt that the fans are faithful enough to pull it off, either, so we can all hope.

Now, to the good stuff: Olmos talked about what other storylines could be covered in future movies, which was definitely new information and some rather juicy morsels. One new movie could return us to the Cylons and tell something of an origins story of the final five. Another movie would tell the story of Kara “Starbuck” Thrace and what happened to her after that fateful mission where she disappeared. Lastly, Olmos claims that there might even be a story about the survivors and what they did AFTER the finale when they all went there separate ways.

All of these would be welcomed with open arms, but learning more about Starbuck — who no doubt still contains the most mystery of all the characters — would probably be the best of the three. If there’s more to tell after the finale story, then I personally would just rather they revived the series so we could all stop being so sad and depressed about its demise.

When you head over to the source site and watch the interview with Olmos, be sure to pay attention to his demeanor. You can tell he’s irked by the handling of the property, and how it’s all been sold off to be made into a brand new feature film based on the original series which Bryan Singer might just direct.
