Gun was open world free roam, that means your not forced to do one thing after another, so what if the world was small is was still free roam. but yeah I get your point. Oblivion is a way better example of free roam.

I hope red dead is more like oblivion and not gta4.

I agree, Red Dead was fun.

My favorite Old West shooter experience would have to go to Time Splitters 2 in multi-player. Setting up the clocktower level and having only Old West weapons. My friends and I literally played that on Gamecube all stinking night once. So. Much. Fun. And the controls were great.

I actually enjoyed Red Dead Revolver. It had one of the best quick-draw-shootout mechanics for a western game, which worked especially well in multiplayer duels. I also thought the writing, voice acting and storyline were above par.

This new one looks very promising indeed.

I made sure to mention Gun and Call of Juarez.

Both had large areas that you could ride a horse around, but they were not open world. Open world is more like Oblivion and Fallout 3 where there's loads of locations to discover, things to do, and danger to encounter -- not just one or two places to go and a wolf.

I loved Gun, but it definitely was not the open world Western that folks want.

There has already been an open world western. It was called Gun and it came out 4 years ago.
