Disney’s ‘The Sorcerer’s Apprentice’ Has A Trailer

The Movie God   |

The Sorcerer's Apprentice

Walt Disney Pictures has been busy today, releasing a poster and image from Tron: Legacy, and also unveiling this brand new trailer for The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. Not too much was known about the project aside from the fact that it was directed by Jon Turteltaub and starred Nicolas Cage and Jay Baruchel as a Sorcerer and his confused and reluctant apprentice.

Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, you can see the effects shining in this trailer. Actually, if you had to compare this with Bruckheimer’s other recent blockbuster trailer for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, it would be hard not to say that The Sorcerer’s Apprentice looks like it has a lot more promise and some really fun special effects. Cage does a lot of questionable movies these days, but every once in a while, he’s in one that ends up being a pretty good time. Some would say National Treasure was one, we know Kick-Ass will be one, and this now has a chance to become one.

Director Jon Turteltaub has been around for a long time now, but his name is not instantly recognized to all. His first well-known films were a couple little gem known as 3 Ninjas and Cool Runnings. After that he moved on to direct While You Were Sleeping, Phenomenon, Instinct, and both National Treasure movies.

The movie also stars Alfred Molina, Monica Bellucci, Teresa Palmer (Wolf Creek, Bedtime Stories), and Toby Kebbell (Rocknrolla, Prince of Persia), and it will be released on July 16, 2010.

Official Synopsis

Walt Disney Studios, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Jon Turteltaub, the creators of the“National Treasure franchise, present The Sorcerer’s Apprentice — an innovative and epic comedy adventure about a sorcerer and his hapless apprentice who are swept into the center of an ancient conflict between good and evil. Balthazar Blake (Nicolas Cage) is a master sorcerer in modern-day Manhattan trying to defend the city from his arch-nemesis, Maxim Horvath (Alfred Molina). Balthazar can’t do it alone, so he recruits Dave Stutler (Jay Baruchel), a seemingly average guy who demonstrates hidden potential, as his reluctant protégé. The sorcerer gives his unwilling accomplice a crash course in the art and science of magic, and together, these unlikely partners work to stop the forces of darkness. It’ll take all the courage Dave can muster to survive his training, save the city and get the girl as he becomes The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. The screenplay is by Matt Lopez and Doug Miro & Carlo Bernard from a screen story by Matt Lopez and Larry Konner & Mark Rosenthal.
