They are probably fearful that his name won’t sell. While Spawn (the movie) wasn’t a bomb, I don’t recall it being major blockbuster. Perhaps they just think he won’t fill seats. From his perspective, making something from a story/property people are familiar with seems like a good “in” for people so that he can get revenue flowing to start doing his other more creative projects.

Reminds me of what happened to the Alice movie. Everyone got excited about American McGee’s vision. Then Hollywood got on board and decided that while they wanted it dark, they didn’t want it too dark and make it a PG13 oh and the Burton brand of darkness-lite would be perfect…

Yeah McFarlane gets shut out yet again. Not sure why but Hollywood doesn’t seem to like old Toddy. I hope can raise the money to make a decent Spawn movie, he told us that he’ll only do it if he can direct. Looking forward to it – go Todd! As far as the Wizard of Oz, that shit has been done already multiple times, enough remakes already. Lets develop some NEW properties already. There’s plenty of great material out there, get off your ass and start green lighting original ideas Hollywood!
