Word of a Jurassic Park IV has been around for a long time now. We’ve never seen it turn into any sort of a reality, but with how popular the movies have been, it’s an expected eventual chapter. At this very moment, there still is no official progress of the movie, but Jurassic Park III director Joe Johnston is saying that the movie is on the way, and that it could be a whole new trilogy.
While speaking to Box Office, Johnston was cautious about where rumors of Jurassic Park IV had originated, but once he cozied up to the topic and was set up with mention that there was no way that they could logically go back to that island, he decided to fill everyone in on where it all stood.
There is going to be a ‘Jurassic Park IV. And it’s going to be unlike anything you’ve seen. It breaks away from the first three — it’s essentially the beginning of the second ‘Jurassic Park’ trilogy. It’s going to be done in a completely different way.
If they keep working — and if audiences keep going to them — there’s no reason why there wouldn’t be. We just want to make them justified in their own right. We don’t want to make sequel after sequel just because there’s a market for it. We want to tell different, interesting stories. You don’t want to just sell hamburger.
I love Jurassic Park, and the sequels were entertaining enough, though nowhere near as good. I could be up for more, but they would really have to do it right. We’ve heard rumors in the past of dinosaurs with weaponry on their backs and all of that stuff. No. The problem with the two sequels is that they were always trying to one up the last, and this was not working at all. If they reacquire the magic of humans interacting with dinosaurs that we saw in the first JP, then it would be amazing. But considering Johnston directed Jurassic Park III, I am ever so nervous about the 3D abomination they might birth.
So what do you think? Is there any way that this happens, and could they possibly do it right?
