New ‘Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil’ Video Clips, Synopsis Released
We the Geeks of Doom are all about the upcoming horror comedy Tucker & Dale vs. Evil. As we’ve said before, the movie has Alan Tudyk, who was beloved as Wash on Joss Whedon’s Firefly and Serenity. It also has Tyler Labine, who was fantastic on TV’s Reaper and also had an amusing cameo in Kevin Smith’s Zack and Miri Make a Porno.
Recently we shared with you a trailer for the movie that had found its way online (Read: See ‘Firefly’ Pilot Alan Tudyk And Tyler Labine In ‘Tucker & Dale vs. Evil’ Trailer), which is bloody and sorta NSFW, which means a hell of a lot of fun. Now, in anticipation for the flick’s debut next week at Sundance Film Festival, Collider has a trio of video clips from the movie.
Head on over to the other side to read the synopsis and watch the clips, but I must stress: if you haven’t seen the trailer yet, you should watch that first. The new clips play after seeing teases of the scenes in the trailer. [...]

No New ‘Star Trek’ Books For Summer 2010
Pocket Books has indefinitely postpone the release of four planned new Star Trek universe tie-in novels, all of which had storylines that take place just after the events of JJ Abrams’ Star Trek film, so as to not interfere with the film’s sequel plans.
After the huge success of Abrams’ Star Trek movie, which was released in theaters May 2009, Pocket Books had announced their plans to release the four new Trek tie-in novels in Summer 2010. Just last week, TrekMovie posted the summaries and preliminary covers for the planned books.
The novels were written by some big name scifi/Trek authors — Alan Dean Foster, Christopher L. Bennett, David Mack, and Greg Cox — which makes this postponement news even more disappointing for Trek fans [...]

‘Piranha 3D’ Gets a Release Date & Synopsis…Sorta
In what is growing to be a certain cult classic one day, Piranha 3D is the actual title of a movie that is on its way to us right this very moment.
The Dimension Films production is directed by Alexandre Aja, who is no newcomer to the horror genre having helmed the remake of The Hills Have Eyes and also Mirrors. Even though the production is a 100% intentional B-movie production, it has a major cast, which makes the film feel like it could be all the more fun. The cast includes Elisabeth Shue, Richard Dreyfuss, Eli Roth, Jerry O’Connell, Kelly Brook, Adam Scott, Christopher Lloyd, and Ving Rhames.

Jackie Earle Haley NOT Sinestro In ‘Green Lantern’ But Mark Strong Might Be!
Jackie Earle Haley seems to typically gain the fantastic roles of his now-successful comeback to acting after lots and lots of rumors of his involvement. With both Watchmen and A Nightmare on Elm Street, it seemed like Haley was the fan-favorite for the roles, and all of that attention contributed to him netting the parts. Another big role that Haley has been rumored to be up for a long while now, is the villain role of Sinestro in the Green Lantern live-action feature, but it appears that this time, the rumors will remain just that, and we won’t see Haley involved.
While speaking to MTV at the premier of his new movie Edge of Darkness, Lantern director Martin Campbell tackled the rumor with gusto, denying it in-full and even revealing that another popular actor was actually in talks for the role — an actor who may just be a better choice for the role than Haley was. You decide! [...]

Jimmy Kimmel Burns Jay Leno Over & Over; Conan O’Brien Puts ‘Tonight Show’ Up For Sale On Craigslist
By now you’re all aware of the anarchy taking place with NBC’s painfully slow implosion and severe mishandling of their popular late night talk show lineup. If not, catch up now: (Read: Late Night Chaos: Jay Leno Jokes About Cancellation Rumor But Will NBC Move Him Back To Old Time Slot?) (Read: That Escalated Quickly: Conan O’Brien Says He Won’t Do 12:05 ‘Tonight Show’)
At the moment it does appear as though Jay Leno will be re-acquiring The Tonight Show (though not confirmed) from Conan O’Brien, who — after a lifetime dream and nearly two decades of service — was given the honor of taking over the long-running show from Leno and seven whole months to make it a booming success. At the same time, NBC is left figuring out how to try and stop the bleeding while not making themselves look as unfathomably incompetent as they have very much looked as of late.
Even with all the drama, these guys are still all about comedy, and both The Jay Leno Show (which has been officially canceled) and The Tonight Show continued to turn the coal into diamonds with new bits. [...]

George R.R. Martin’s ‘Game of Thrones’ HBO Series Looking More Likely

In November of 2008, it was announced that HBO had ordered a pilot episode for Game of Thrones, a potential new series based on George R.R. Martin‘s “A Song of Ice and Fire” novels. If a series was ordered, the plan was to make each season based on a book in the series — the first season being of course based on A Game of Thrones. Almost a year later we were informed that Sean Bean (The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring) had been cast along with a few other names, but the series was still not a sure thing, and it wouldn’t be until the pilot was seen that a decision would be made. Fast forward to present day and we still do not know if Game of Thrones will become a full series, but buzz has been steadily growing and a solid fanbase has already been developing.
Now comes word straight from HBO programming chief Michael Lombardo that he has seen footage from the pilot episode and that he believes its chances for getting a full greenlight are “very strong.” [...]

Will ‘Jurassic Park 4′ Be The Start Of A New Trilogy?
Word of a Jurassic Park IV has been around for a long time now. We’ve never seen it turn into any sort of a reality, but with how popular the movies have been, it’s an expected eventual chapter. At this very moment, there still is no official progress of the movie, but Jurassic Park III director Joe Johnston is saying that the movie is on the way, and that it could be a whole new trilogy.
While speaking to Box Office, Johnston was cautious about where rumors of Jurassic Park IV had originated, but once he cozied up to the topic and was set up with mention that there was no way that they could logically go back to that island, he decided to fill everyone in on where it all stood.
There is going to be a ‘Jurassic Park IV. And it’s going to be unlike anything you’ve seen. It breaks away from the first three — it’s essentially the beginning of the second ‘Jurassic Park’ trilogy. It’s going to be done in a completely different way. [...]

Blu-ray Review: Family Guy Presents: Something Something Something Dark Side
Family Guy Presents: Something Something Something Dark Side
DVD | Blu-ray
Directed by Dominic Polcino
Starring Seth MacFarlane, Seth Green, Alex Borstein, Mila Kunis, Patrick Warburton, Mike Green
20th Century Fox Home Entertainment
Release Date: December 22, 2009
Family Guy is at it again with their second visit to the Star Wars universe in Something Something Something Dark Side. After they successfully spoofed Star Wars: A New Hope in humorous but faithful fashion with Blue Harvest, we could hardly wait for more to come around. Now that we have this cartoon version of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back available to us, the trilogy spoof is almost complete!
The best thing about these movies is that everyone can enjoy them. Not everyone is a Star Wars fanatic, so this is a hilarious way for them to see the world and the characters, even if it’s absurdly different from the way that George Lucas created them to be. For those of you non-Star Wars fans, this second film in the series takes place a few years after the Rebel Alliance blew the hell out of the Emperor and Darth Vader’s precious Death Star. Now the Empire is hot on their tail with plans for revenge. After Luke Skywalker comes into his own as a Jedi with intense training by Jedi Master Yoda, he hurries to a showdown with Vader after the evil Sith springs a trap on Han Solo, Princess Leia, and his other companions.
Returning for the second adventure is Peter Griffin as Han Solo, Stewie Griffin as Darth Vader, Brian Griffin as Chewbacca, Carter Pewterschmidt as the Emperor, and Glenn Quagmire as C-3PO [...]

The Social Blend (of Doom) Podcast
Those of you with ears should venture over to Social Blend — the podcast about social media sites like Mixx.com and other news headlines worth your valuable time — for a special Geeks of Doom episode.
I joined hosts Greg Davies (cGt2099) and Jay Fowler (SilentJay74) to chat about what a Spider-Man film reboot would entail as well as plenty of other nonsensical geek-related news.
It was so much fun we’re already plotting dates for a Social Blend of Doom II [...]

‘Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day’ Reaches $11 Million Box Office Mark
Since Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day finally came out in theaters on October 30, 2009, the goodies to report have been scarce. And Looking at the number in the title, you may think that this is a bad news post, but alas, this is not so!
All Saints Day had a budget of only $8 million, and with it now at the $11 million mark, that’s a big score for the film. Keep in mind, this is an indie movie, so it was only released in a maximum 500 theaters (as compared to the 3,461 theaters that giant movies like Avatar get), so this is a strong showing. In fact, these numbers now make Boondock Saints II the top-grossing film with a limited release in 2009 and Apparition Films’ top-grossing film of all time.
The real thing to watch in this sequel’s ten-year journey is the DVD release. Director Troy Duffy‘s The Boondock Saints came out in 1999, and since it discovered its cult army of a fanbase, the DVD has pulled in $50 million. This is where all involved in Boondock II hope and expect to make their big money, so it will certainly be interesting to see how it turns out. [...]

Daniel Craig In Negotiations To Replace Robert Downey Jr. In ‘Cowboys & Aliens’
Back in September we discovered that Jon Favreau may be working with his Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. again soon when he became a candidate to direct a movie based on the Scott Mitchell Rosenberg graphic novel, Cowboys & Aliens. Since then, Favreau has officially become the director, but unfortunately, Downey Jr. actually had to drop out of the project this past Monday.
Now comes word via a scoop by Collider that Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace‘s James Bond, Daniel Craig, is now in negotiations to take on the role of Zeke Jackson that Downey Jr. vacated.
Cowboys & Aliens isn’t the most recognizable title in the world of graphic novels, but its premise sounds to be highly entertaining. It takes place in Silver City, Arizona sometime in the 1800s where the Cowboys and Indians are fighting it out as we all know they did, but this particular location is about to have a bit of a twist. [...]

‘Ghostbusters 3′ Will Be Directed By None Other Than Ivan Reitman!
For as long as we’ve known about the possibility of Ghostbusters 3 happening, we’ve wondered whether original director Ivan Reitman would return to helm the trilogy maker. It’s been loosely confirmed many times that all of the original cast members would be returning though people like Rick Moranis and Annie Potts are still unknowns. And on top of that, writer/star Harold Ramis has already claimed that a 2011 release was happening.
Well folks, it wasn’t in any type of big or flashy unveiling, but while speaking to MTV on the red carpet for the National Board of Review in NYC, Reitman confirmed that he would indeed be directing the movie. Reitman explained that a draft was in the bank and that a second was being worked on right now, but didn’t say much when asked if he was in fact directing; he simply said “Yes” and that he “hopes to start shooting in this next year,” which is more than enough for us to be excited. Ivan hasn’t had the best of films recently, and he needs to slam dunk one here to keep up with his son Jason Reitman, who at the moment can do no wrong in the eyes of many. [...]

Happy Birthday To Agent M, Here’s A Photoshop’d Marvel Card
If you don’t know who Agent M is, you either aren’t on Twitter or you live under a rock. Agent M is the alias of Marvel.com Editor and blogger Ryan Penagos and today is his birthday.
We here at Geeks of Doom appreciate a chap like Ryan because he makes our job easier. He is the bridge that continuously connects the gap between fanboy and comic book creator. And as such, we wanted to go beyond the simple 140-character birthday well wishes.
Also, we needed an excuse to publish the bad ass “Agent M” 1991 Impel/Skybox “Marvel Trading Card” Photoshop Art I did several months ago.
Who else remembers these cards?
Check it out …

Star Wars Lego Cool Their Heels on Hoth
 |
Posted by Dave3 | January 13th, 2010 at 12:42 pm |
Flickr user Avanaut brings new meaning to the term cool with this inventive Lego on Hoth photo set.
This particular photo set resonates deep down to my geeky core, as I played many a long, frostbitten day out on the snowy tundra of ‘Hoth’ (by way of Brooklyn, NY) as a kid, IG-88 & Darth Vader figures in hand and Han Solo in my heart. The set is enhanced by Avanaut’s decently witty titles and captions, and the random insertion of one Dr. Henry Jones. Per his recommendation I encourage you to use the ‘view on white/black’ option when looking at each photo for maximum immersion and enjoyment [...]

Ryan Reynolds To Battle Peter Sarsgaard In ‘Green Lantern’
The heat is being turned up on the Green Lantern lately. After a long bout of silence followed the casting of Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, we finally were informed recently that Blake Lively would be joining him in the female lead. This news is now being followed-up with reports that Peter Sarsgaard is in negotiations with Warner Brothers to join the cast as the evil villain Dr. Hector Hammond.
If all comes together, this is how the characters work: Lively plays Carol Ferris, who runs her father’s aerospace company and hires Reynolds’ Hal Jordan as a test pilot. Jordan is sent out to a crash site that turns out to be an alien who gives him the powerful ring that makes him the Lantern. And finally, if Saarsgaard is cast, his Hammond character is a paleontologist with daddy issues who gains psychic abilities from a meteor.
Green Lantern is being directed by Martin Campbell. Campbell has directed a pair of Zorro movies in The Mask of Zorro and The Legend of Zorro, as well as a pair James Bond movies in Goldeneye and Casino Royale [...]

Robert Zemeckis Casts The Beatles For Motion Capture ‘Yellow Submarine’
Not too long ago it was reported that the king of motion capture, Robert Zemeckis, would be remaking The Beatles‘ animated film, Yellow Submarine, using the technology. Now this new project has its cast of four actors who will be offering their voices to the movie as the four legendary Beatles.
The trades are reporting that Cary Elwes, Dean Lennox Kelly, Peter Serafinowicz, and Adam Campbell are all in negotiations for the roles (Click image to see all four in comparison). Elwes is the best known of the bunch with his roles in movies like The Princess Bride and Robin Hood: Men in Tights; he would be voicing George Harrison. Peter Serafinowicz isn’t a household name here in the States, but you may know him better than you think. He’s very popular overseas and has appeared as Simon Pegg and Nick Frost’s flatmate in Shaun of the Dead, as well as on the popular series Spaced. Serafinowicz would be handling the voice of Paul McCartney. Lennox Kelly would be appearing as John Lennon in the film, and has appeared in The Secret Life of Words as well as popular shows Doctor Who and Robin Hood. [...]

That Escalated Quickly: Conan O’Brien Says He Won’t Do 12:05 ‘Tonight Show’
If you’re on the internet, then you’ve surely heard about the drama going down at NBC right now. The studio had a major freak-out about their dwindling ratings after Conan O’Brien took over the legendary hosting duties of The Tonight Show from Jay Leno, who came back with his new gig The Jay Leno Show. In an effort to make all of the boo-boos go away as quickly as possible, NBC made the panic-induced decision to bump Leno’s new show up to 11:35PM (the long-time slot of The Tonight Show), effectively pushing Conan back to 12:05AM.
br/>
After all of this, rumors began tearing across the stratosphere, claiming word of O’Brien’s possible departure, and how FOX had supposedly put out big offers to both Leno and Conan (FOX making a smart move? Interesting). So would Conan O’Brien and Jay Leno just go along with NBC plans and hope that it all worked out, or would they both take offense and walk away? [...]

6 Guidelines The Next ‘Spider-Man’ Film Needs To Follow
If you’re wondering why the studio decided to scrap the fourth installment of Spider-Man in an effort to reboot the franchise, look no further than Batman Forever as justification. Seriously, go back and look at the progression of these films and tell me they were consistently getting better and not worse. Let me list off some of the sins committed in no particular order: Green Goblin Suit of Armor, Emo Spider-Man, Hal Sparks cameo (why?), Macy Gray singing, Topher Grace as Venom, Venom being crammed into a movie about Sandman…
I’ll stop.
Honestly, you can’t blame the studio for wanting to reboot the whole franchise when the most frequent thing out of people’s mouths were how much they hated the last film. So if they plan on doing a reboot, here are some basic guidelines they need to follow if they want to be successful [...]
