Geek Gear: AT-AT Anatomy Shirt
The T-shirt offer of the day over at Teefury today is a “Anatomy,” inspired by the AT-AT walkers from The Empire Strikes Back.
The limited edition navy blue t-shirt, available in both men’s and women’s sizes, sells for just $9 but will be sold today only — after midnight EST, it’s gone forever (at the top right corner of the site, there’s a countdown to sell-out time). Shipping is $2 for most residents of the U.S., but international shipping is also offered for additional costs.
I’m assuming all of you have already seen The Empire Strikes Back (if not, please back away from the computer, head to your nearest DVD rental/purchase location to acquire movie, then immediately watch this movie), so you’ll know what an AT-AT is. If you’re one of the three people reading this that doesn’t know what it is, it stands for All Terrain Armored Transport and they were the Imperial vehicle of choice in the ground battle on Hoth against the Rebellion [...]

A Parody For Your Thoughts: The Many Faces Of ‘The Last Supper’
Recently we shared a couple of new images from ABC’s Lost that showed the cast replicating Leonardo da Vinci‘s famed “The Last Supper” painting. This along with shows like Battlestar Galactica (seen above) and House have made it quite apparent that this was a popular thing to do whilst promoting your show. As it turns out, this happens all the time, and Jeremy from Culture Popped was able to point us to a ton of them to check out.
Among the many variations you will find many popular TV shows and movies and brand name characters. Titles like The Simpsons, Star Wars, M.A.S.H., South Park, and The Sopranos appear along with Walt Disney characters and brand characters from McDonalds and everything in between, all showing off their very own “Last Supper” renditions. Some are very well-done and worth seeing while others are basic and passable.
Click on over to the other side to check out a few of our favorite “Last Supper” parodies, and be sure to head over to Culture Popped where you can see an insane amount of these images all in one convenient location. [...]

Geek Peek: New Images From ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. The World’
Director Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) has released plenty of teasing behind the scenes images from his upcoming adaptation of the popular Bryan Lee O’Malley graphic novel Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, but now you can check out two brand new official images from the film.
The first image is of the film’s cast standing next to each other while the other image is rather trippy and shows what appears to be someone running sideways with an awesome flaming sword. Both images are sure to extract pure elation from all of the Scott Pilgrim fans who have yet to get a peek at their favorite comic come to life.
While I could summarize the basic premise here, it’s probably best said by the official Scott Pilgrim website:
Scott Pilgrim is 23 years old, living in the big city with his gay roommate, just trying to get by in this crazy world. He’s in a band. He’s lazy. He likes video games.
Scott Pilgrim likes the new girl in town, Ramona Flowers, but to win her heart, he has to defeat her seven evil ex-boyfriends. Seven! Evil! Ex! Boyfriends! Lucas has muscles! Todd plays bass with his psychic powers! The Twins are twins! Matthew Patel is an Indian guy! AND MORE! [...]

What If? ‘Doctor Who’ Facebook Pages For The Doctor & The Master
As of late there’s been a trend among fans to give adored fictitious character their own personal Facebook page, complete with status updates and supporting character wall posts. For instance, College Humor did a Star Wars Facebook Status Updates feature that was pretty good. I’ve seen a few others but none that really made me physically laugh.
Leave it to a Doctor Who fan to make me eat my words. DeviantART user The Hellish Gnome photoshop’d a Facebook page for both The Doctor and his nemesis The Master that are littered with Whoniverse details.
I never realized how the Timelord regeneration would lend itself so well to a parody Facebook page [...]

‘Zombieland’ Writers To Take On Script Duties For ‘Deadpool’ Movie
As one of the more popular anti-heroes of the comic book world, the announcement of a movie based on the Wade Wilson himself, Deadpool, was music to the ears of fans.
With promises of a faithful adaptation, the perfect-fitting Ryan Reynolds reprising his role from X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and the assurance that the severe mishandling of the character in Wolverine would be wiped clean, how could anyone not be excited? To add to all of this, a rumor that was first reported by CHUD in early December has now been confirmed by the trades: Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have been hired on to pen the Deadpool script.
This is fantastic news to throw onto the pre-existing pile of positive ingredients that have been applied to the project. Zombieland was praised for its humor and well-placed sarcasm, which is what Wade Wilson is really all about. Nail his Merc with the Mouth persona and you nail the character while setting yourself up for a successful film. [...]

Video: George Lucas on ‘The Daily Show’
Star Wars creator George Lucas made an appearance on last night’s episode of The Daily Show to discuss the new book George Lucas’s Blockbusting: A Decade-by-Decade Survey of Timeless Movies Including Untold Secrets of Their Financial and Cultural Success , which was released yesterday.
George Lucas’s Blockbusting, a nearly 1,000-page paperback, takes a look at 300 of the most critically and financially successful movies of all time (up until 2005) and delves into the business aspects, like revenues and costs, as well as technology and trends.
In his 7-minute segment on the show, Lucas did less talking about the book and more responding to Stewart’s jokingly fanboy queries about the Star Wars prequels. Check out the video of Lucas’s appearance here below [...]

New ‘Wizard Of Oz’ To Be Modernized Family Film; Todd McFarlane’s Dark Vision Dead?
It appears that the creepy world of The Wizard of Oz that everyone wanted to see from Spawn creator Todd McFarlane may not be coming our way any time soon. A scoop from Pajiba points to Warner Brothers passing by McFarlane and moving forward with a take that was once thought to be disliked by those involved.
Back in October was the last time that we heard from McFarlane about the progress of his film, and things seemed to be moving forward. He claimed that he was developing the film with A History of Violence scribe Josh Olson, who’s last script was too light “too Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” for his darker vision (Read: Todd McFarlane Talks The Status Of His Twisted ‘Wizard Of Oz’; Shares Story Details). The interesting thing about that situation, is that it sounded like McFarlane had sold Warner Brothers on his idea, and that he was perfectly okay with the fact that he would have to sacrifice some of his extreme ideas, saying “I just found it odd that they bought that cool, creepy pitch and now they’re taking a step back.” This quote is now even more interesting with the revelation that Warner Brothers is now leaning MORE toward Olson’s script, and running away from the darker idea all together. ‘Spider-Man 4′ Hits The Wall, On Indefinite Hold
It took a while for everyone to get over whatever Spider-Man 3 was, but since we were informed that Spider-Man 4 was on the way with director Sam Raimi and stars Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and others set to return, all has seemed to move quite smoothly. In fact, things were moving so smoothly that plans for fifth and six installments were already getting set up. The only delay that seemed to be causing problems was the choosing of a villain for the fourth film and the hiring of multiple new writers, but with an official release date of May 5, 2011 announced, there was nothing to worry about…right?
Apparently not, as it was first reported in December by IESB that Sony has actually changed the popular comic book movie’s status from on “holiday hiatus” to the much more disheartening “indefinite hold.” The trades have since confirmed this to be true even after it was initially denied by studio representatives. The reason for the sudden halt? Reportedly, not only can’t Raimi and the studio agree on a proper villain lineup, but Raimi is also incredibly unhappy with how the script(s) are shaping up. [...]

Round & Round We Go: Sean Penn Rejoins ‘Three Stooges’
Peter and Bobby Farrelly have been trying to bring their movie version of The Three Stooges to us for a long time now, and it looked as though things were going well when we discovered that they had Benicio Del Toro, Sean Penn, and Jim Carrey set to play Moe, Larry, and Curly. The project took a turn for the worst when it was announced that Penn was going to drop all of his film projects to concentrate on his family problems, which unfortunately ended with the splitting up of he and his wife Robin Wright Penn.
Now comes word via The Boston Herald that Penn is back and ready to reacquire the role of Larry now that some form of resolution has been reached in his personal life. This is good news for the Farrelly brothers, who feared that his initial departure could spell the end for the struggling project, though there were rumors of the fantastic Paul Giamatti taking over for Penn. ‘American Beauty’ Director Sam Mendes To Bring Us 23rd James Bond
When it comes to the James Bond franchise, everything is pretty much fair game in terms of cast and crew. Approaching the 23rd film in the series, anyone can direct a chapter and there’s absolutely no issues with recasting the role of James Bond himself after an actor has contributed to a few of the flicks. Since Daniel Craig took over the famed title in 2006′s Casino Royale, Bond has reached a whole new level of quality and entertainment. Martin Campbell directed that chapter, which was followed up with Marc Forster’s Quantum of Solace, and now we know who will handle the duties for Bond 23: Sam Mendes.
Much like Forster (Monster’s Ball, Finding Neverland), Mendes is not a director who plays in the realms of action movies very often. His best work to date is the Best Picture winning American Beauty, which he has followed up with many loved and respected films such as Road to Perdition, Jarhead, and Revolutionary Road. [...]

‘The Orphanage’ Remake To Be Tackled By ‘Mothman Prophecies’ Director Mark Pellington
As is the case with most of the more popular foreign horror films that come around (The Ring, The Grudge, Quarantine, Let Me In), an American remake is never a big shock. One of these foreign horror films is the Guillermo del Toro produced The Orphanage [El Orfanato], which is now well on its way to our eyes with the hiring of Mark Pellington to direct the remake.
The original Orphanage is directed by Juan Antonio Bayona and stars Belén Rueda. It tells the story of a woman who goes back to the orphanage that she grew up in with plans of transforming it into a home for children with disabilities. Things go south when the woman’s sick adopted child informs her of his invisible friends, which includes the masked Tomás. She naturally doesn’t believe this at first, even with the the reminder of her own childhood that it brings up, but when she actually sees a boy wearing a mask and then her son disappears, she is forced to find out what exactly is going on at her orphanage. See ‘Firefly’ Pilot Alan Tudyk And Tyler Labine In ‘Tucker & Dale vs. Evil’ Trailer
In early July ’09, the world was informed that Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine — stars of prematurely-canceled hits Firefly and Reaper — would be starring together in a horror comedy called Tucker & Dale vs. Evil. Now the movie has a little visual accompaniment with the discovery of the film’s trailer. This particular trailer apparently was first making rounds back in October via Bloody-Disgusting, but that run eluded these very eyes, and so it is here now if you missed it as I did!
The movie follows Tucker and Dale, two simpleton rednecks who are about to experience the “wrong place, wrong time” stigma to its most extreme level. When the duo discovers an abandoned cabin, they think it’s their luckiest of days, but when a string of mishaps leads a group of college kids to think that Tucker and Dale are vicious serial killers, the pair fall victim to the dreaded world of stereotypes and must find a way to set things right.
This trailer looks like it might just be a leaked version or a very early online peek, and it also could be considered NSFW, so click on over at your own risk to see it while you still can! [...]

Do These ‘Lost’ Supper Images Hold The Answers We Desire?
ABC has released a couple of interesting images for the start of the final season of Lost, which begins on February 2, 2010. The images use the popular promotional tactic of taking your show’s cast and recreating Leonardo da Vinci’s “The Last Supper” painting (in this case it has to be called “The Lost Supper,” just because), which as you know, featured Jesus Christ in the center, surrounded by his apostles before he was crucified.
In this case, we’re looking at two images that were released, and as with anything related to Lost, we are all wondering if anything that we are looking at is a hint to the mysteries we wish to know the answers to oh-so-badly. Both images show the cast sitting at a table and enjoying a nice Dharma Initiative dinner. John Locke is sitting right in the middle of it all, which interestingly dresses him as Jesus…or at least god-like. The rest of the crew is around him and in the first image (seen above — click to go large), they’re all staring right at Locke. [...]

Video: ‘Pocahontas’ – ‘Avatar’ Script & Trailer Mashup
Those of us who’ve seen Avatar — and judging by its over $1 billion box office earnings, I’d say that’s most of us — probably felt like you’ve heard this story before…
SPOILER
A white soldier spends time with and learns the ways of a tribal people (people in danger of losing their lands and life to enterprising white colonists), falls in love with the leader’s daughter, eventually becomes a trusted honorary member of said tribe, sees the error of the white man’s ways, leads his new clan into battle.
/SPOILER
Yes, it does sound a lot like Dances With Wolves, even James Cameron agreed.
A similar comparison has been to Disney’s Pocahontas — check out the video mash-up here below of the Avatar trailer with the dialogue of Pocahontas (especially when the singing kicks in). Not convinced? Then read an except from the Pocahontas script someone cleverly marked up with Avatar references.
I’ll give Avatar a little more credit than to just call it a Pocahontas/Dances With Wolves in Ferngully land rip-off, considering the amount of detail that went into creating Avatar‘s world of Pandora and of course, the impressive special effects and CGI work. But as far as story goes, we’ve heard this one before for sure… but that’s ok, it’s a good story to tell [...]

‘Dune’ Remake Fills Departed Peter Berg Hole With Director Pierre Morel
A remake of the 1984 David Lynch film Dune has been on the way for a while now. The movie was beginning to take some steps when The Rundown and Hancock director Peter Berg was hired to helm the remake. These steps ended when Berg stepped away after he was offered the opportunity to direct a movie based on the popular Hasbro game, Battleship, which he felt that he simply couldn’t turn down. Now comes word via Entertainment Weekly that Paramount Pictures has found and hired Berg’s replacement for Dune, and his name is Pierre Morel.
Morel is fairly new to the directing game, but he has showed promise so far. He directed the popular Liam Neeson angry father film Taken, and the upcoming John Travolta and Jonathan Rhys Meyers action flick, From Paris With Love. Before starting his career as a director, he also worked as a cinematographer on movies like Jason Statham’s The Transporter and War. [...]

Michael Jackson’s ‘Captain EO’ To Return To Disney’s Tomorrowland
Fans of the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, will be thrilled to know that his posthumous reign is not yet over. The Walt Disney Company’s Disney Parks Blog announced recently that Jackson’s Captain EO will be making its valiant return to Tomorrowland locations at various Disney resorts. The Honey, I Shrunk the Audience attraction is being closed today in order to set up for the EO comeback.
The 17-minute short film was released in the mid-’80s and lasted well into the ’90s before its run ended. It was incredibly popular due to both the fact that it featured Michael Jackson and also due to its 3D format — sometimes even called 4D due to interactive elements such as smoke and lights being used within the theater.
Click on over to the other side, where you can watch Captain EO in full YouTube style right this very moment if you have never seen it. It looks to be quite the trippy little flick. [...]

Meet New Toy Mr. Pricklepants In ‘Toy Story 3′ Video
A new video has been released by Walt Disney for Toy Story 3. It originally aired on The Disney Channel as a micro featurette TV spot, but it is now online for all to see. The video is basically just the trailer that we’ve seen already, but it has an introduction from director Lee Unkrich, who discusses the film briefly and makes a quick reference to the brand new characters that we’ll see. This is where we get to meet Mr. Pricklepants! The character pops up for a moment, says a quick line, and is then gone, but it’s still cool to see one of the new additions; and hey, news is deathly slow lately.
Mr. Pricklepants is a poofy little hedgehog who wears a pretty sweet little lederhosen get-up. He also has a prim and proper voice to accompany the look — a voice that you wouldn’t expect just looking at the new toy, that’s for true. Pricklepants gets this distinguished gentleman accent from none other than Timothy Dalton, who is best known for his stint as 007 James Bond as well as for his turn as a villain in Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and Edgar Wright’s Hot Fuzz. Geek Gear: ‘Spock, Paper, Scissors’ Tee For $9
The T-shirt offer of the day over at Teefury today is a Spock, Paper, Scissors tee, inspired by the popular episode “The Lizard-Spock Expansion” of the CBS sitcom Big Bang Theory.
The limited edition blue t-shirt, available in both men’s (slate blue) and women’s (powder blue) sizes, sells for just $9 but will be sold today only — after that, it’s gone forever (at the top right corner of the site, there’s a countdown to sell-out time). Shipping is $2 for most residents of the U.S., but international shipping is also offered for additional costs.
If you’ve see the episode this shirt was based on, you’ll totally get the joke and see how totally cool this shirt is! I wrote all about this Big Bang Theory episode back in late 2008 [Read Video: ‘Big Bang Theory’ The Lizard-Spock Expansion] where the Sheldon introduces his friends to the game of “Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock,” a play on Rock, Paper, Scissors. The problem is, everyone kept picking Spock (no surprise) [...]
