A new Robert F. Kennedy biopic based on the Evan Thomas biography, His Life, is now on the way at New Regency with superstar Matt Damon attached to star.
The film — which is currently untitled — will span a large portion of Kennedy’s life, including earlier days when all of the attention was on his older brother John F. Kennedy, to his rise up into the spotlight as a top political leader, and straight through to his assassination in 1968.
The movie will be directed by Gary Ross and written by Steven Knight. Ross wrote and directed Pleasantville and Seabiscuit, and also wrote Big, Dave, The Tale of Despereaux, and the upcoming remake of Creature from the Black Lagoon.
Ross was one of the many different people brought in to write a new draft for Spider-Man 4 and also was hired to pen the Venom movie. We all know how Spidey 4 played out and no one knows what the current status of Venom is.
Knight has written Dirty Pretty Things, Amazing Grace, and Eastern Promises. He was also in the news recently as the writer of the third film in the Da Vinci Code series, The Lost Symbol.
Word is that Matt Damon will still have to read the script before he officially accepts the role, but all signs point to this being a done deal. With Damon being born and raised in Massachusetts, it’s not only a strong part for him to take, but one that he can find some kind of emotional connection to.
