‘Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood’ to Air on Cartoon Network
 |
Posted by Henchman21 | February 7th, 2010 at 12:03 am |
According to LA Weekly and confirmed by Funimation, Cartoon Network will begin airing Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood beginning Saturday February 13 at midnight eastern time during its Adult Swim block. Brotherhood is not a sequel to the original, but is an all new series that follows the events of the manga series by Hiromu Arakawa more closely.
The series follows the adventures of Edward and Alphonse Elric, two brothers who are attempting to repair their bodies after they try to bring their mother back to life. The attempt to bring back their mother cost Edward an arm and a leg, and cost Alphonse his entire body, forcing him to attach his soul to a suit of armor. They travel around an alternate reality, using their powers of alchemy, or the ability to change one object into another. If you’ve seen the original series, you can expect a different experience once you get past the first few issues. I’ve read the manga, (at least what has been released in the U.S. so far) and the story takes a number of turns that are completely different from what was seen in the first show [...]

Your Dreams Will Come True: ‘Enchanted 2′ Is Heading Our Way!
In 2007, Disney found themselves with a new mega-hit that was called Enchanted. The movie took that classic Disney hand-drawn cartoon vibe, and brought it to a live-action modern day New York City. The movie went on to make $340 million worldwide, so fans will be thrilled to know that the studio is going full-steam ahead on a sequel, Enchanted 2.
Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden, and Susan Sarandon starred in the original, but none are currently confirmed to be returning or not. You can be sure, however, that Disney will be going after them all aggressively. Barry Josephson and Barry Sonnenfeld are returning as producers on the sequel, but aside from that, the crew will be all new. Jessie Nelson has been brought in to write the screenplay, and Anne Fletcher will be directing this time around.
The director change is a fairly large change right off the bat — the original movie was directed by Kevin Lima, who has a pure Disney foundation. Lima worked in the Art and Animation departments on movies like The Brave Little Toaster, The Rescuers Down Under, The Little Mermaid, and Beauty and the Beast. [...]

‘Thor: Tales Of Asgard’ Preview – Marvel’s Next Animated Feature!
 |
Posted by Vactor | February 6th, 2010 at 4:38 pm |
Planet Hulk, the latest animated feature from Marvel Studios and Lionsgate Home Entertainment, hit shelves this week and one of the special features on the DVD and Blu-ray was a first look at Thor: Tales Of Asgard, Marvel‘s next animated feature.
Take a look at the sneak peek here below and let us know what you think.
The thought of a teenage Thor doesn’t quite stir my loins like previous Marvel films have but I’ll give it a shot next year.
Thor: Tales Of Asgard arrives on shelves in 2011 — just in time to piggy back onto Kenneth Branagh’s live-action Thor when it hits theaters [...]

Who Needs 3D? Korea Takes Their ‘Avatar’ In 4D!
I’m not big on this whole 3D craze, as those who read the site might have been able to tell. It works for some movies — like James Cameron‘s Avatar, of course — but there is absolutely no need for every movie made to have so many dimensions.
But as 3D is taking over your movie theaters, do not think for one moment that it ends there. No, no — there is indeed a fourth dimension out there in the great beyond, and the technology is well on its way as we speak!
Reports out of Seoul, South Korea share that 4D is no new thing to Koreans. Last year, they set up a special theater in one of their largest chains that would allow them to offer the perfect movie/ride experience, and began with movies like Journey to the Center of the Earth. Since then, they’ve added a few more of these specialty screens, and have been been preparing for Avatar since last summer. While these movies play, over THIRTY special effects are set to add this new dimension to your experience, including light water spraying, lights and lasers, smells such as explosions/gunfire, gusts of wind, and even moving seats! New ‘Clash Of The Titans’ Banners & Poster
New banners and poster for Louis Letterier‘s Clash Of The Titans remake have been released, all of which show off the film’s new April 2, 2010 release date and 3D status.
Check out the four new banners and one new poster here below; visit UGO for the high-res versions.
The four banners show the legendary characters in action, so if you know your Greek mythology, you’ll appreciate how well these were put together. The new poster is of the Kraken sea monster in mid-roar trying to take a chomp at the Pegasus-riding Perseus.
I’ve said it with the trailers, now I’ll say it with the poster — too much Kraken! Don’t get me wrong, nothing against the Kraken, but there’s a whole new generation of moviegoers who’ve never seen the original Clash, so why reveal so much in the promo items? It almost feels like they’re trying to show fans of the original movie that they haven’t strayed too far, like, ‘Hey, look here’s the Kraken, we didn’t forget him, we’re releasing him, we got all the Kraken you need!’ And now we have ‘Look, it’s 3D Kraken!’ [...]

Reboot Of ‘Daredevil’ Is A Go; Screenwriter David Scarpa Hired
It’s amazing how Hollywood works these days, especially when it comes to the world of superhero and comic book-related film projects. Sometimes these movies get made and turn into some of the biggest franchises ever seen, while others don’t do so well and are considered failures. Either way — whether it be Spider-Man or The Incredible Hulk — studios don’t seem to have the slightest issue with throwing entire $100-$150 million films in the trash, and starting anew…just like that.
One of the titles that we’ve heard was up for a possible reboot, was Daredevil. Along with Elektra, many fans weren’t pleased with how the franchise was shaping up, so Fox seemed ready and willing to give it another go with new faces. This move is now confirmed, and according to Deadline Hollywood, they have also hired David Scarpa to pen the script for the do-over.
Daredevil tells the story of a blind man who develops incredible abilities using his other senses, and uses those gifts to fight crime and evil. The original movie starred Ben Affleck as the sight-less hero, and it made $179 million in worldwide box office. [...]

3D ‘Stretch Armstrong’ Grabs ‘The Twilight Saga’ Star Taylor Lautner; ‘Battleship’ Now Set To Strike On Memorial Day
Universal Pictures is making some big moves with two upcoming titles based on toys by Hasbro: Stretch Armstrong and Battleship.
The biggest announcement comes in the form of Taylor Lautner, star of The Twilight Saga, who has yet again been cast as a superhero of sorts with incredible abilities: Stretch Armstrong. Just in the past few months, we’ve discovered that Lautner was being cast in the title role of teen hero flick, Max Steel, and also that he might be showing up in the not-so-superhero-based remake of 1985′s Vision Quest.
Aside from this casting announcement and the shocking reveal that the movie will be in 3D, not much has been said of the Stretch Armstrong movie. It, like so many other toy-based movie projects, was simply announced and then ventured off to do whatever it has been doing. All we do know is that Steve Oedekerk (Bruce Almighty, Kung-Pow) has written the screenplay, and that mega-producer Brian Grazer is one of the names behind the production. [...]

Comic Review: Detective Comics #861

Detective Comics #861
Written by Greg Rucka
Art by Jock
Co-feature Art by Cully Hamner
Cover by JH Williams III
DC Comics
Price: $3.99; Release date: January 27, 2010
JH Williams III became one of my favorite artists last year when he was brought on board Detective Comics (along with writer Greg Rucka), bringing with him his impressive layouts and a highly photo realistic style.
With Detective Comics #861 Jock takes over for Williams on art detail, bringing a very different dynamic to the art. The two have radically different styles, with Jock having a much more angular style. He doesn’t have the way with the intricate layouts that Williams does, but he adds grit to the issue that Williams doesn’t have. Jock’s has an economy of line, and the coloring adds a very expressionistic angle to the art. If you’re used to his art, and enjoy it as I do, the change will not be as much of a bitter pill to swallow, but if you’re looking for a style similar to Williams III, you may not enjoy the change as much.
A new storyline starts in this issue as Batman and Batwoman are tracking down the same case in two different eras and I’m assuming we will see how they are connected at some point, but as when Williams was drawing it, the star here is Jock’s art. He has a great way of projecting the mood of the scenes [...]

‘The Lost Symbol’ To Become Third Film In ‘Da Vinci Code’ Franchise
Columbia Pictures is ready to roll the dice on The Da Vinci Code franchise one more time, announcing that it is officially moving forward with The Lost Symbol, which is based on author Dan Brown‘s book of the same name.
When The Da Vinci Code first came out, it was a mass hit and was everywhere you looked and listened. This popularity obviously carried over when director Ron Howard and star Tom Hanks teamed up for the movie adaptation, and though it wasn’t as well-received, the movie still made $758 million in its box office run. A sequel was always expected considering there were more books in the series, but for some reason it never felt quite right. Angels & Demons was even less-liked than the original, and it went on to make $486 million — not a bad take, but surely not up to the hopes of the studio.
Despite the lackluster performance of Angel’s & Demons, this news comes as no real shock. [...]

Deal: ‘Oz: The Complete Seasons 1-6′ DVD
Here we are, at the last day of Amazon’s week of HBO deals, topping it all off with today’s spotlight item, Oz – The Complete Seasons 1-6 on DVD for only $86.99 (that’s 64% off the list price of $238.98).
This sale is only for today til midnight PST while supplies last.
This offer bundles together the six individual season DVDs (meaning, it’s not a box set). Math time: this deal works out to be about $14.50 per DVD, which is more than half off the typical individual season DVD price.
Oh, and in case you didn’t know, this series takes price at the Oswald Correctional Facility “Oz” — that’s right, a men’s prison. And since this ran on HBO, it was no holds barred… for real. It’s violent, it’s graphic, it’s not for innocent eyes, but it was an awesome show [...]

‘Fallout: New Vegas’ Teaser Trailer Released, Set For Fall Release!
After the gigantic success of Fallout 3, fans of the series have been itching for more post-apocalyptic action. With the announcement of a fourth game entitled Fallout: New Vegas, you can only imagine how excited said fans have been, and it doesn’t look like the wait will be all that tortuous.
Bethesda Softworks has officially announced that Fallout: New Vegas will be released in the Fall of 2010. To accompany this exciting news, a brand new teaser trailer in true Fallout fashion has also been released for your viewing pleasure.
While it was Bethesda who brought us Fallout 3 and all of the great new combat and first person shooter styles that made the RPG truly special, it is Obsidian Entertainment who is handling the developing duties for New Vegas. Obsidian is no stranger to the world — they made Fallout 2 — but this does raise the question: will this new title have the same gameplay as its Game of the Year-crowned predecessor, or will it go back to older RPG styles? [...]

‘Percy Jackson’ Star Logan Lerman Possible ‘Spider-Man’ Candidate?
When it was announced that Sony had decided to completely incinerate their plans for a fourth Spider-Man, as well as everyone involved from director Sam Raimi to stars Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst, we could only imagine who might step in and replace them for the proposed overhaul of the franchise.
Not too long after that, it was announced that (500) Days of Summer director Marc Webb would be the new man at the wheel, and now we’re beginning to hear the names that could become Spider-Man himself.
In a chat with Access Hollywood‘s Billy Bush, Logan Lerman was pointed out as a prime candidate for the new Spider-Man, and was then asked if he was in any sort of talks about the role. Lerman excitedly admitted that he has had conversations with Sony and the producers of the film, and that he’s hoping that more talks will follow. He also admitted that it was the producers who sought him out, and not the other way around — surely a good sign for Lerman, whether he lands the role or not. [...]

‘Avatar’ Does The Impossible, Passes ‘Titanic’ Domestic Box Office Record
Many people seemed skeptical of Avatar and the unbelievable budget that it had actually being able to perform well at the box office. Considering it was a James Cameron movie, expectations were that it would make a whole lot of money, but would it be enough to pull in a worthy enough profit?
Since its release, Avatar has been breaking records left and right — including the all-time worldwide record — while making more than enough bank at the box office to prove many times over that it was all worth it. Though the success was undeniable, it was Cameron’s other blockbuster, Titanic, and its domestic record that up until this point was simply untouchable. But shockingly, Avatar has now officially reached the $601 million mark, passing Titanic‘s previously immortal $600 million mark. And the amazing thing about it all, is that it did it pretty quietly. We all knew the movie was destroying the box office, but to hit all-time #1 in both domestic and worldwide already is mind-blowing. [...]

Deal: ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm: The Complete Seasons 1-6′ DVDs
We’re nearing the end of Amazon’s week of HBO deals, with today’s Gold Box spotlight deal being Curb Your Enthusiasm: The Complete Seasons 1-6 on DVD for $89.99 (that’s 62% off the list price $238.98).
This sale is only for today til midnight PST while supplies last.
This deal bundles together the six individual season DVDs (meaning, it’s not a box set). If you do the math (which I typically do), you’ll that that works out to about $15 per season as opposed to the nearly $40 list price — even with Amazon’s usual discount, each season averages around $30. Therefore, this is a huge savings and definitely worth getting if you’re a fan of the series.
For those of you not familiar with this half-hour HBO series, it stars Larry David, who co-created Seinfeld and was the basis for the George Costanza character. In Curb, David plays himself, which if you thought Costanza was outrageous, you should see the “real” Larry David [...]

Superman: Secret Origin #4
Issue 4 of 6
Written by Geoff Johns
Art by Gary Frank and Jon Sibal
Covers by Gary Frank
DC Comics
Price $3.99; Release date: January 27, 2010
If there’s one thing that can be said about last week of comic releases, is that this was a week for the art lover. Case in point: Superman: Secret Origin #4.
The story by Geoff Johns for this issue is not bad, showing the first face to face meeting between Lex Luthor and Superman, as well as a new origin for the villain Parasite, but the main reason to pick up this issue is the fantastic art of Gary Frank. The first thing to note is the way he draws Clark Kent. You may argue that Frank draws him to look a little too much like Christopher Reeve, but I think it adds another layer to the character, since so many of us identify Reeve as the ultimate Superman. It’s something that will appeal to casual fans, and I think once this series is done, this is going to be a great book to give to your non-comic reading friends [...]

It Has Begun! ‘LOST’ The Final Season Premiere Discussion
Last night was the very first episode in the final season of our beloved LOST. As excited as we were for the show to be back, it was also somewhat depressing because all know that this beginning means the end is now near. It’s hard to think another show will ever come near what LOST is doing, so in a way, we could be witnessing the death of truly great TV.
Thankfully, this is still just the first episode and we have a good chunk left before the sadness really sets in. So before we reach that ultimate sadness we faced with Battlestar Galactica once again, shall we have ourselves a chit-chat about went down last night?
As we stated in our LOST Season 5 finale discussion, there will be some spoiler action going on here, so if you’re not yet caught up — even by one episode — do not read on. For the rest of you, click over for more and to share your theories on what road this final season is heading down! [...]

Watch Now: ‘The Return Of Swamp Thing’ On Hulu
The Return of Swamp Thing, the 1989 Jim Wynorski-direct film starring Heather Locklear and Dick Durock, is now online to watch for FREE for residents of the United States.
You can watch the full-length feature film here below.
The Return of Swamp Thing, which also stars Louis Jourdan and Sarah Douglas, is based on the DC/Vertigo comic book series Swamp Thing and is the sequel to Wes Craven’s Swamp Thing film.
Make no mistake, this movie is pure 80s cheesy goodness, but one thing it succeeds in is making you sympathetic to the Swamp Thing (Durock), a scientist who was transformed into a creature after a horrible lab experiment. And for the typical ’80s man-in-monster-suit, I think the Swamp Thing looks pretty good (the same can’t be said about the other fail experiment victims also roaming the swamps) [...]
