Check Out The Dude AND Oscar-Nominee Jeff Bridges In ‘Tron: Legacy’ Image

The Movie God   |

The first official image of Jeff Bridges in Tron: Legacy has surfaced online courtesy of Disney, and you can give it a glimpse by wandering to the lower portions of this post.

Bridges is reprising his role of Kevin Flynn and his video game avatar Clu from the 1982 glowing neon Tron universe, and his participation in the multi-decade anticipated sequel has had fans buzzing with excitement. The actor is joined in this new electronic adventure by young up-and-coming stars Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde, who play Flynn’s son Sam, and Quorra, respectively.

Mr. Jeff Bridges is currently having a good day. The actor was given an Oscar nomination for Best Actor for his work in the movie Crazy Heart. The role has already snagged him numerous awards, including a shiny new Golden Globe.

Be sure to head over to the other side of this post to check out The Dude in action (though not…moving).

Tron: Legacy will be released in theaters everywhere on Dec. 17, 2010. [...]

Deal: ‘Deadwood: The Complete Series’ DVD

Empress Eve   |

The week-long deals on HBO series over at Amazon this week have been great so far, and today continues that tread with the Gold Box spotlight item being Deadwood: The Complete Series DVD box set for only $74.99 (down 58% from $179.97).

This sale is for today only while supplies last.

This 19-disc DVD box set contains all three seasons of the foulmouthed HBO series, which was canceled when it was still in its prime and is definitely missed til this day. The set includes several bonus features, including “The Meaning of Endings,” where creator and writer David Milch talks about the conclusion of Deadwood [...]

Comic Review: Captain America: Reborn #6

Henchman21   |

Captain America: Reborn #6
Written by Ed Brubaker
Penciled by Bryan Hitch
Inked by Array
Colored by Paul Mounts
Lettered by VC – Joe Caramagna
Cover by Bryan Hitch
Price: $3.99; Marvel Comics
Release date: January 27, 2010

Captain America has been one of my favorite series since Ed Brubaker took over several years ago.

We all knew that when the original Captain America, Steve Rogers, was killed at the end of the Civil War event, that he would be back at some point. Unfortunately, this series that is bringing Steve back to life has been plagued by delays, and had an extra issue added to complete the story.

So, was the wait for Issue #6 worth it? Well, I guess it depends on how much you HAD to have Steve Rogers back behind the shield. If you really wanted him back, than this may have lived up to the expectations, but for me, the whole series has been kind of underwhelming, and I’ll be glad to get back to the regular adventures of Bucky Barnes or Steve Rogers or whoever they want to call Cap [...]

82nd Academy Awards Nominations: ‘District 9′! Oh, And…’The Blind Side’!?

The Movie God   |

For we the movie fanatics of the world, the Academy Awards are just as exciting as the Super Bowl. Many of us throw or attend Oscar parties, and even go so far as to print out that ballot and lock our picks into place.

Over the past few years, this and a lot of other awards shows have kind of lost their flare. It has become apparent that deciding nominees and voting for winners is not about who is the best and who is most deserving, but about what has the best side-story and what the popular names and titles are. This massive flaw is hard to swallow, and the appeal of the whole event is bordering on non-existent.

To help bring more appeal to the game, the folks behind the Academy Awards chose to make a few changes in the format of the show. The biggest of these alterations was of course changing the amount of Best Picture nominees from 5 to a whopping 10, which meant that all of the deserving but not-so-traditional contenders (The Dark Knight) could get their chance to be underdog heroes. Comic Review: The Last Days Of American Crime #1

Vactor   |

The Last Days of American Crime #1
Issue 1 of 3
Written by Rick Remender
Art by Greg Tocchini
Lettering by Rus Rooton
64 pages, Full Color; $4.99
Radical Publishing

From Rick Remender, the critically acclaimed writer of Punisher and Fear Agent comes the first issue of The Last Days Of American Crime. Featuring covers from Alex Maleev and Greg Tocchini this crime noir thriller captured my attention with its really cool premise. Picture this:

In the not-too-distant future, as a final response to terrorism and crime, the U.S. government plans in secret to broadcast a signal making it impossible for anyone to knowingly commit unlawful acts. To keep this from the public, the government creates a distraction, installing a new currency system using digital charge cards.

Enter Graham Bricke, a career criminal never quite able to hit the big score. In a grand scheme, Graham intends to steal one of the charging stations, skip the country, and live off unlimited funds for the rest of his life [...]

Must Watch: Zeus & Hades Rule Their Worlds In ‘Clash Of The Titans’ International Trailer

The Movie God   |

There’s nothing not to be excited about for action fantasy fans when it comes to Louis Leterrier‘s remake of Clash of the Titans. The movie has all the promises of becoming an exciting, fast-paced adventure within the realms of Greek Mythology with all of the crazy creatures and struggles that come with it.

To add to this excitement, a brand new International trailer for the movie has been released courtesy of IGN, and you can check it out below! Unlike the first couple of trailers that we the Americans were given, the International peek shows off Liam Neeson as Zeus, father of Perseus (Sam Worthington), as well as evil god of the Underworld, Hades (Ralph Fiennes), who looks more normal than I expected and sounds strangely similar to the Ephors in 300.

Click over to the other side to check out the trailer. This is one to see!

Aside from seeing Zeus and Hades in the trailer, there’s one more thing that’s not to be missed. [...]

Marvel Announces New Artist For ‘The Avengers’

Henchman21   |

Marvel announced today who will be the new artist on The Avengers when the series relaunches in May with a new first issue.

Personal favorite artist John Romita Jr. will join writer Brian Michael Bendis as they launch what Marvel is calling “The Heroic Age.” [Read Marvel Comics Promises ‘Heroes Will Be Heroes Again’ In ‘Heroic Age’]

Along with the announcement came a new image from Romita, showing the new Captain America, Bucky Barnes. (Check it out here at right; click for larger, full view.)

We know that the new series will feature the return of the Big Three (that’s Captain America, Thor and Iron Man) to the Avengers, although we don’t know the rest of the team yet [...]

Deal: ‘Six Feet Under: The Complete Series’ DVD

Empress Eve   |

Amazon’s week of HBO DVD deals continues with today’s Gold Box spotlight deal of the day, Six Feet Under: The Complete Series DVD box set for only $67.99 (that’s 62% off the list price of $179.98).

This sale is for today only while supplies last.

The set 25-disc set contains all five seasons of the Alan Ball dramatic series, plus two bonus soundtracks, audio commentary, deleted scenes, episode previews and recaps, and several featurettes (Ball is also the creator of HBO’s True Blood). The packaging on this one is mighty creative: the top of the box looks like a stone grave marker with the show’s name and years of running (2001-2005) surrounded by grass, with the rest of the box made to look like dirt. The set also comes with an exclusive illustrated booklet with character obituaries and memories from the show’s creators.

For those of you not familiar with the show, its main selling point right now might be that it starred Michael C. Hall, known now for playing the serial killer who offs serial killers on Showtime’s Dexter [...]

Movie Review: ‘The Good Guy’

The Movie God   |

If you know me or if you read the site, you probably wouldn’t think of me as someone who was into the lovey-dovey romance movies. Truth is, while I really get sickened by the ridiculously cheesy and unrealistic “rom-coms” that are mass produced to steal the incomes of a multitude of tissue-wielding women, I can admit that I enjoy a well-done romance movie from time to time. I’ve never been much of a relationship kind of person, but have still been considered something of a romantic, and so long as the movie is entertaining and doesn’t get out of hand, I’m down for a viewing!

Enter The Good Guy: a new film from Roadside Attractions and director Julio DePietro about a young, seemingly-perfect couple living the big city life. The movie debuted last year at the Tribeca Film Festival and follows Beth (Alexis Bledel), a sweet and beautiful young woman with a good job and a great group of friends in New York City. [...]

Geek Gear: What Would John Locke Do? ‘LOST’ T-Shirt

The Movie God   |

The folks over at TeeFury have an interesting way of doing things. For those of you who are not aware of them, they have one unique t-shirt each and every day. This shirt goes up for sale at midnight on the button for the universal price of $9, and at midnight 24-hours later (or when it is sold out), it disappears into a vortex and is never ever seen again…EVER.

Today’s design comes from the world of ABC’s LOST, which is set to begin their sixth and final season this Tuesday night. The shirt takes one of TV’s more popular (and mysterious) characters, John Locke (Terry O’Quinn), and begs the question “What Would John Locke Do?” and leaves us to ponder quietly.

Keep in mind that this one day is the only chance you’ll ever have to acquire this shirt and show it off to jealous friends. This is a depressing thing for some people; there is no doubt that many with empty pockets have ventured to the site and saw something magical like this that slips their grasp and becomes a dream. Matt Damon Says ‘Bourne’ Sequel Still Five Years Away; Prequel With New Director & Star Possible

The Movie God   |

It seems like the moment that it was announced that a fourth Jason Bourne movie would be made to follow The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy, and The Bourne Ultimatum that was not based on a Robert Ludlum novel, everything started going wrong and falling out of place.

Through the many problems, the biggest was of course when director Paul Greengrass decided to leave the movie and move on to other things (Read: ‘Bourne’ Trilogy Director Paul Greengrass Walks Away From ‘Bourne 4′). Since Greengrass did not direct all three of the previous films, so long as the studio kept their hands on star Matt Damon, all could still be sunshine and rainbows, right?

While speaking to Empire Magazine at the UK premier of Invictus, Damon decided to make another Bourne movie sound a lot less likely than it once was. So much so that it now sounds like it could be five whole years before we see another one, and that a prequel film with a brand new director AND star could be made to fill the void. [...]

Want To See A Little Sample Of What A CGI Smurf Looks Like?

The Movie God   |

We’ve all come to terms with the fact that any old cartoons we grew up with and love will eventually receive an updated CGI makeover and a run on the Silver Screen. So many have already been through this process — Alvin and the Chipmunks, Garfield, and Marmaduke, to name a few — and none have been very well-accepted…so far.

Another of these CGI re-inventions is of everyone’s favorite little blue creatures: The Smurfs, and while it is very grainy and black and white, UGO has gotten their hands on the first peek of what our dearest Smurfs will look like in computerized form. I personally did not see it when it happened, but apparently a posted leaked a while back for the movie, and that had a Smurf on it as well, but the two look nothing alike.

Continue on to the bottom of the post to check out this first image of what we can expect to see in The Smurfs. [...]

‘Flight Of The Conchords’ & Borat Co-Creator James Bobin To Bring Us Sweet Muppet Action

The Movie God   |

It’s no secret that Jim Henson‘s Muppet army is raring up to make a big comeback. In March of ’08 we found out that Forgetting Sarah Marshall duo Jason Segel and Nick Stoller would be writing a new Muppet movie for Disney.

After that, we also found out that a slew of other plans were in motion as well, including TV specials, merchandise, and music albums. In case you missed it, you can catch up on all Muppet plans here and now (Read: It’s Not Meat, It’s Not Puppets … It’s The Muppets & They’re Coming Back Big!).

At the time, it sounded like Segel and Stoller would actually be handling the directing duties of the movie as well — we knew that they could pull it off after seeing their work with the Henson-made Dracula puppet and their song “Dracula’s Lament” — but that’s not the case. It’s being reported that James Bobin, who co-created the popular HBO series Flight of the Conchords and helped Sascha Baron Cohen to create his multiple personalities — including Ali G, Borat, and Bruno — has now been brought in to helm the next Muppet movie. More Than Meets The Eye: A Look At The Motion Capture Performances Of ‘Avatar’

The Movie God   |

The LA Times is currently doing a special feature called Wizards of Hollywood, and it looks at all of the crazy skills and technologies that go into today’s movie-making processes. For this special feature that they’re running, Fox was kind enough to present them with a behind the scenes look with James Cameron and others into the making of Avatar, and the motion capture technology used in creating the Na’vi species.

The video is basically aimed at informing people of just how complicated the process of motion capture performances really are. Many people think that because it’s animated, then it must just all be done in computers, and this is not the case at all. Unlike hand-drawn Disney and Pixar animated films, for example, these movies actually require living, breathing actors to perform in the film with every bit as much of themselves as a live-action film would. Everything all the way down to their facial movements and reactions are scanned and entered into the computer so that the animated portions can be molded around them. [...]

Video: Guy Who Did 70-Minute Review of ‘Phantom Menace’ Reviews ‘Avatar’

Tom Cheredar   |

Some of you may recall the epic seven-part video review of Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace that totaled 70 minutes in length by RedLetterMedia. If you haven’t seen it, you may be wondering who would be able to speak at length about that movie for over an hour. Mostly (almost entirely) it picks apart what’s wrong with the film in intricate detail, but adds enough production value and humor to make it well worth your time.

Recently, that same guy posted a 20-minute review of Avatar. And whether you agree with his assessment of the film or not, there are some interesting points made.

Check it out after the jump [...]
