POW! and BOOM! Join Forces For New Stan Lee Comics

Henchman21   |

2010-03-02_stans_backLast week if you visited a number of comic book websites, or read the LA Times, you may have seen an ad that read “Stan’s Back” that lead to stansback.com, which simply contained the “Stan’s Back” logo and nothing more.

Today it was revealed what those ads meant. BOOM! Studios announced today via press release that they have entered into an agreement with POW! Entertainment to to publish three new superhero titles presented by Stan Lee.

There was no information about the actual titles, other than that they will be released sometime later this year, and that one of them will be written by BOOM! Editor-in-Chief Mark Waid. BOOM! promises that the other two titles will also feature “A-list writers as a part of the creative team.” We’ll have to wait and see who will be handling the art, and what these stories will be about.

Stan Lee is of course famous for writing and co-creating many of the Marvel comics characters that we love today, as well as working as editor-in-chief for Marvel for many years, and remains active as the greatest spokesman for comics as an industry. This is a man who has never lost his joy of creating or just talking about comics. His track record after leaving Marvel has been spotty at best though. He’s tried several times to start new comics and online companies, but has not met with much success in these endeavors. Lee’s most recent project is the Manga series Ultimo, drawn by Hiroyuki Takei and published by Viz Media in the United States. Even though he hasn’t had a lot of recent success, you have to admire him for continuing to try and with the creative skill of Mark Waid behind it, this could be the project that proves he still has that old magic.
