UPDATED! The People Have Spoken: Betty White To Host ‘Saturday Night Live’

The Movie God   |

Betty White SNL

UPDATE: This has officially been confirmed by AP. Betty White will host SNL on May 8, 2010, which is Mother’s Day weekend. Perfect!

Early last month, we shared with you a fan-fueled mission to find a way to get Golden Girls star Betty White to host an episode of Saturday Night Live (Read: Your Mission, Should You Choose To Accept It: Make Betty White An SNL Host!).

A special Facebook page was created for the job, and when we wrote about it then, it had 200,000 supporters. Now, it has almost 500,000 supporters, and the question looms larger than it ever has before: will Betty White get to host some SNL for us?

According to People, the answer to this question is yes. Speaking to the 88-year-old actress while she attended Elton John’s annual Oscars after-party, they seized the opportunity to ask her if she would be doing it, and she answered with a simple “yes.” And when they then went on to ask her what she thought of this random explosion of fan support, she replied “I don’t know why or how, but it’s been wonderful.”

Now, sadly, this clearly isn’t an official announcement that White is hosting SNL. If she was at a party, it was likely loud and hectic, and who knows what the hell may or may not have been misunderstood or misspoken on either end. We all without doubt hope that this confirms an upcoming announcement, but it is yet to be seen.

In any case, the movement has been recognized and it’s a guarantee that Lorne Michaels and SNL have heard about it, so it’s all up to them whether this happens. Considering how lacking the legendary show has seemed to be for a while now, I don’t think there’s much to ponder.
