Who says you can only play one hero in the world of comic book films? Not Ryan Reynolds, who has appeared in a Blade movie, a Wolverine movie, and will be in the upcoming Green Lantern and Deadpool movies. And apparently not Chris Evans.
Last week, Evans had reportedly been offered the role of Steve Rogers, also known as Captain America, in The First Avenger: Captain America [read Chris Evans Offered The Role Of ‘The First Avenger’]. It now appears that Evans, who’s previously made us laugh as Johnny Storm in the Fantastic Four films, has decided to accept.
There was some question last week whether or not he would accept. It’s a tough decision to make, factoring in the reported nine-picture deal Marvel Studios’ wants the actor to take on. Not only will he need to hold his own film up but the Avengers and other upcoming Marvel releases as well. That’s a huge time commitment to give and reportedly the paycheck wasn’t that enticing either (under $1 million).
I’m glad the “Who will play Cap?” circus is over and done with, now let’s focus on making a good movie. Of the actors who were rumored to be in the running, I was always in the Evans camp and I’m glad he chose to do it.
What do you think? Does Evans have the commanding presence that Captain America needs?
