Spoiler Talk: Clash Of The Titans (2010)
 |
Posted by Guy_Jen | April 3rd, 2010 at 12:48 pm |
Looking for another remake? Well you’ve come to the right place, or better yet time. Over the past couple years it seems like every month or two we get the [dis]pleasure of a new remake. This is especially true when it comes to the genre of science fiction and fantasy.
Well the new Clash Of The Titans looks to capitalize on this trend in movies. I personally have never seen the original but have heard about how enjoyable it was and will probably be renting it for a watch some time soon.
One of my favorite types of media is mythology-based fantasy. The Percy Jackson book series was one of my favorites because of its use of Greek mythology. That being said i was extremely excited for the new Clash Of The Titans. It lived up to my hype level and I am so happy for that.
The only thing that I would like to say is I have not seen the 3D version on principle. I refuse to support the Hollywood craze to up-convert movies. If you want to have a 3D film please, I beg of you, film it in 3D. But enough of that though, let’s get to the SPOILER TALK!
Below are some of my spoiler-filled thoughts on the film; Make sure to put in your spoilerific thoughts in the comments! [...]

WonderCon 2010: ‘All Star Batman and Robin’ To Return With New Name & Final Issues
 |
Posted by Vactor | April 3rd, 2010 at 9:12 am |
All Star Batman and Robin will be returning with new issues next year.
Wow, there’s something I never thought I’d be saying. I thought I’d be consoling my grandchildren as they asked me, “Whatever happened to that beautiful Batman book with the swear words blanked out in it?”
Yes, the G*d Damned Batman will be returning in February of 2011 with original creators Jim Lee and Frank Miller, according to Lee, who spoke yesterday at the DCU panel at WonderCon 2010 about the future of the much-delayed book.
The legendary creators will be completing the series under a new title. For the last six issues, the book will be called Dark Knight: Boy Wonder and will ship monthly [...]

Marvel’s Master Plan To Save The Comic Book Industry, Revealed?
The next era of comic book fiction came the day Marvel was formally sold to the much larger Walt Disney Corporation — but that’s really just a detail and not the reason for a new age.
Ask yourself this one question, then reexamine how everything would play out: Did Marvel know about Apple‘s iPad as early as 2008?
If the answer is yes, then it would absolutely change the entire scope of Marvel’s business decisions going forward.
If you look at the digital presence Marvel had from about mid-2008 until present day, you can see a decline in relevant digital content strategies. Marvel is one of two powerhouse comic book companies which have creative properties that are ridiculously valuable (Mickey Mouse valuable). So for them to be lacking in innovative ways to utilize these assets digitally just doesn’t make much sense — unless Marvel knew that the iPad could be a game changer in the midst of a dying print publication industry, an economy in depression, and more and more small comic book retailers going out of business.
If that’s the case, then it makes perfect sense that they never bothered producing an iPhone application when it was the trendy thing to do for companies. It also makes perfect sense as to why they decided to continue to develop their digital comics reader in-house rather than making a large investment to outsource to a specialty firm. [...]

Listen To Pink Floyd’s ‘Dark Side Of The Moon’ 8-Bit Style
You remember the days: you grabbed your favorite Nintendo video game cartridge, blew vigorously into your console and the game itself, and pushed the plastic treasure in as far as it would go and then down with a subtle click.
On bad days, your system light would blink or stare blankly back at you, requiring more professional troubleshoot-blowing, but on good days, a moment or two would pass before the beautifully melodic tones of a synthetic 8-bit musical soundtrack would ring out to our eager ears. This is what being happy was all about in the ’80s. Nothing was better, and nothing would ever be better.
We were of course young and stupid back then, and many much better things have come along as we’ve grown old. Even still, the faintest hum of a beepy 8-bit video game’s music can still ignite explosions of nostalgia in our heads, and with today’s delightful technologies, it’s possible for anyone to turn anything into 8-bit musical heaven! Geek Peek: Hagrid’s Hut At Universal’s ‘Wizarding World of Harry Potter’
As the grand opening draws near for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, the new theme park area at Universal Studios Orlando, another new image from the park has been released today.
The new image — see it here at right — is of Hagrid’s Hut. In the Harry Potter universe, Hagrid is the half-giant groundskeeper at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and is a close confidant to boy wizard Harry Potter. Guests at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will pass by Hagrid’s Hut, which is a replica of Hagrid’s home from the films, on their way to the Flight of the Hippogriff coaster.
You can see more of Hagrid’s Hut in a feature on The Wizarding World of Harry Potter during this Sunday’s episode of NBC’s The Celebrity Apprentice on NBC.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, which is part of Universal’s Islands of Adventure theme park, will have its grand opening on June 18, 2010 [...]

‘Dynasty’ & ‘Charlie’s Angels’ Star John Forsythe Dies At 92
John Forsythe, who’s best known as Blake Carrington on the popular ’80s television series Dynasty, has passed away at the age of 92. Forsythe had been diagnosed with colon cancer within the past year, but recently fell ill and died from complications from pneumonia.
Forsythe appeared in an incredible 217 episodes of Dynasty, which ran from 1981 to 1989 and starred Linda Evans, Joan Collins, and Heather Locklear. He was also starred on another popular show from 1976 to 1981, appearing in 109 episodes of Charlie’s Angels as Charles Townsend. The interesting thing about that role was that every single one of those episodes were “uncredited” due to the fact that he was only a voice. But when you’re THE Charlie from Charlie’s Angels — even if just vocally — you can’t deny the iconic status.
John Forsythe had a career that began in the ’40s and spanned 60 years and almost 100 film and TV titles. Most of the work that he did was on the small screen, but he appeared in plenty of films as well, like 1967′s In Cold Blood, Silent Treatment, and The Happy Ending. [...]

WonderCon 2010: Geeks of Doom Coverage
I’m currently sitting on a flight bound for San Francisco where I will provide Geeks of Doom’s coverage of WonderCon 2010 — thus kicking off convention season, which is far more exciting than baseball and football season by default of it being acceptable for those in attendance to dress like The Batman and/or Slave Leia.
“Ridiculously excited” would be an obvious understatement.
Of course if you can’t make it to the convention this year, you can always follow @geeksofdoom on Twitter for all the latest news from WonderCon 2010 and also live vicariously through my own experience by following me at @tched.
This year the show is chock full o’ DC Comics panels — many of which feature new Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns. With the Blackest Night arc coming to a close, I’m extremely curious to hear what’ll be revealed about the next big DCU event, Brightest Day.
There’s also plenty of panels with creators and actors from this summer’s big movies — including Kick Ass, Prince of Persia, Resident Evil: Afterlife. There’s also some great stuff in TV with BBC showing the premiere of Doctor Who: Season 5 and a panel for NBC’s Chuck [...]

Movie Review: ‘The City Of Your Final Destination’
There are times in life when you will need to co-exist with many different people. On some occasions we might even find our own lives crossing paths with many other different lives. It is in these moments when we are able to experience the purest examples of human nature — the study of a stranger through conversation and observation, the first hints of attraction, our natural defenses toward those we’re unsure of, the birth of love — and not only form lifelong bonds with others, but also come to know ourselves better than ever before.
The City of Your Final Destination is about just such a fusion of many different lives and personalities. It tells the story of Omar (Omar Metwally), an academic who along with his girlfriend (Alexandra Maria Lara) are hoping to author a biography about the recently deceased Jules Gund. In order to write this book, however, they must gain the blessing of the family and loved ones that survive the late writer. [...]

‘Captain America’ Sidekick Bucky Barnes To Be Played By Sebastian Stan
Many names were reportedly in consideration for the role of Captain America in The First Avenger: Captain America. We were told of quite a few of them toward the end of February (Read: Want To Know Who’s In The Running To Become Captain America?), but ironically, it’s now two candidates that were not part of that list who have won the lead roles
It’s being reported that Sebastian Stan, who was at one time a possible choice to become the Captain himself, has been cast in the role of Bucky Barnes. He joins Chris Evans, who of course was recently offered and accepted the job to play the highly coveted superhero role.
In the comic books, Barnes’ father is killed in military training right before the United States enters World War II. Orphaned, Barnes is taken in by the military camp as their own, making him their mascot. At first he’s too young to actually fight alongside the soldiers, but he eventually discovers his friend Steve Rogers’ secret Captain America identity and joins him as his partner. [...]

LOL: ‘League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: America 1988′
As I tweeted this morning, “April Fool’s Day online: A day when everyone tries but fails miserably to be The Onion.” Most jokes just aren’t funny, but every year, a gag story stands out amongst the nonsense that’s so well-received that the public demands it become a reality. Remember ThinkGeek‘s infamous Tauntaun Sleep Bag of 2009? [That was an April Fools joke gone right; I even own one!]
I do believe that Comics Alliance has come up with the must-have April Fools project of 2010 with their imagining of the next installment of Alan Moore and Kevin O’Neill’s League of Extraordinary Gentlemen graphic novel series: League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: America 1988.
While the original League has fictional Victorian-era characters like Dracula‘s Mina Murray and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea‘s Captain Nemo, the America 1988 version has 1980s icons from American pop culture: Lisa, the doll brought to life from Weird Science; Angus MacGyver from MacGyver; Dr. Emmett “Doc” Brown from Back To The Future; B.A. Baracus from The A-Team; and Jack Burton from Big Trouble In Little China.

Comic Fans Will Be Able To ‘Make Mine Marvel’ On Their iPads
 |
Posted by Vactor | April 1st, 2010 at 11:47 am |
Marvel has thus far not been shy when it comes to releasing their comics digitally. They have digital comics available through a subscription model on their website and they also have them available through a number of apps on the iPhone/iPod touch (ComiXology, iVerse, Panelfy, and Scrollmotion). If you’re curious what the experience may be like, check out the upcoming iVerse app.
The comics giant will be further expanding their digital initiative with the launch of an iPad app. The Marvel App will be separate from the iBooks store and will be able to display full pages or be zoomed in using a panel-to-panel style similar to many of the current iPhone and digital reader apps. Besides those details, we don’t know much about the content that will be available on the app [...]

Watch Now: ‘The A-Team’ Trailer #2
A new trailer for The A-Team, the big-screen adaptation of the popular 1980s television show, is now online.
Watch it here below.
Joe Carnahan directed the film, which has, what I think, is a spot-on cast for the members of the A-Team: Liam Neeson as team leader John “Hannibal” Smith; Bradley Cooper as Templeton “Face” Peck; Sharlto Copley as “Howling Mad” Murdoch; and former UFC champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson as B.A. Baracus.
Now, we all know how wrong these TV to film jumps can be — just take a look at Miami Vice — but judging by the two trailers released for this The A-Team movie, it looks like it’s a faithful adaptation of the TV show. As far as 80s TV shows go, I think The A-Team was top of the crop, so I’m really hoping this movie does it justice [...]

Movie Review: ‘Who Do You Love’
“The Blues Had A Baby And They Named It Rock And Roll” — Muddy Waters
There is a name in music that many have forgotten over the years. This name is responsible for the discovery of some of the greatest musical talents this world has ever known. This name is responsible for the discovery of Rock and Roll itself. That name is Leonard Chess.
Who Do You Love is a biopic about Leonard Chess (Alessandro Nivola), who as a Jewish immigrant in Chicago realized that there was a new sound in music and that no one had jumped on it yet. He first opened up a new nightclub where musicians could play, but it was not long before he and his brother Phil Chess (John Abrahams) along with the help of songwriter Willie Dixon (Chi McBride) decided they needed to record this music and share it with the world. [...]
