Over the course of this final season of Lost that has been so often talked about and discussed, one of the biggest question marks among fans (myself included), was where Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje was.
Akinnuoye-Agbaje of course is best known as the character Mr. Eko — easily one of the most popular to fans over the course of the show’s six seasons — and with every other character showing up from time-to-time throughout the season and also the finale, it was clear that something was fishy in Eko’s absence.
So where in the hell was Mr. Eko?
According to E! Online, it was somewhere he preferred to be over Lost. Sources state that the actor was offered a “hefty sum” to make an appearance in the last episode, but decided that he wanted FIVE TIMES more than that amount to do it. As a producer you want everyone to be a part of something like that, but there’s only so much they could be expected to do from a business standpoint. I’m sure there were plenty of other stars who were just as crucial — if not more so — who were happy to come back no matter what the salary.
I’ll be pretty blunt: this pisses me off a little. With something like Lost, there’s a family trait and major loyalty deeply embedded in the cast and crew. You’ve seen this numerous times from actors who didn’t survive past the first couple of seasons who happily came back whenever called upon to help the series stay true to that incredible attention to detail that has always been priority. It’s annoying to me as someone who loved the Eko character to see the actor behind it being this seemingly greedy and all-around “Hollywood” type. This would have been what, maybe a one-day cameo job? And obviously all of his fans (again, including myself) were really hoping to see our Eko.
A real shame.
