Best Movie Ever? The Beatles To Become Zombies In ‘Paul Is Undead’

The Movie God   |

Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher of Double Feature Films have optioned a feature film adaptation of Paul is Undead: The British Zombie Invasion, the mash-up novel from author Alan Goldsher.

The novel tells one of the currently-popular alternate history stories where zombies and monsters and vampires and aliens are used as an added special ingredient to classic old stories or even to the lives of celebrities and historical figures. This began with Seth Grahame-Smith’s Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, and has gone as far as the recent announcement of the Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov collaboration on Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

In Goldsher’s tale, John Lennon is turned into a zombie while still a young child in 1940 England. As time goes on, he grows into an incredibly talented musician who kills and re-animates Paul McCartney and George Harrison before adding “Drummer/Seventh Level Ninja Lord” Ringo Starr to the group, creating and amazing and talented band of (mostly) zombie musicians called The Beatles who go set off to share their music with millions of adoring fans…some of which they eat. Spy Image Of Peter Sarsgaard In ‘Green Lantern’ May Haunt Your Dreams

The Movie God   |

Sky Showbiz has gotten their hands on the first peek at Peter Sarsgaard on the set of the upcoming DC Comics adaptation, Green Lantern.

Sarsgaard will be playing Hector Hammond, a pathologist who stumbles upon some pieces of a meteor that severely deform his head, but give him unbelievable telekinetic powers (click image above to see Spanish Hector Hammond!). He eventually becomes one of the primary enemies to the Green Lantern. He’s also the son of Senator Hammond (played by Tim Robbins), who has never really seen eye-to-eye with his son.

Use your mind-bullets to click on over to the other side and check out this first image of Peter Sarsgaard on the set of Green Lantern!

As you will see in the image, they certainly didn’t hold back when it comes to the whole deformed head situation. This is, of course, just walking around on the set — that’s not what he’ll be wearing in the movie and there’s likely going to be a lot more effect added to the head you see there. [...]

Darth Vader & Other ‘Star Wars’ Voices To Offer You GPS Guidance For TomTom

The Movie God   |

These days, most people with newer vehicles have some sort of navigational system to help them get to their destinations without getting lost. One of the popular GPS devices comes from TomTom, a company who might just be about to become a whole lot more popular to geeks and fanboys worldwide.

I many cases, people can choose a voice that is the most appealing to them who will verbally dictate directions to them as they drive. Over the next few months, TomTom will be releasing a line of Star Wars character voices for just this purpose. The first voice released was that of the Sith Lord, Darth Vader, and in the coming months the assistance of C-3PO, Master Yoda, and Han Solo will also become available to users of the service.

The first batch of images from the set of the remake/reboot of Conan the Barbarian have shown up online at the film’s official Facebook page.

The movie is directed by Marcus Nispel, who previously directed the Friday the 13th reboot and Pathfinder. It stars Jason Momoa as Conan, Ron Perlman as his father Corin, Stephen Lang as Singh, Rachel Nichols, and Rose McGowan.

Head on over to the other side to check out the images.

As with most first peeks at a movie, these aren’t going to make your day. Still, you’ll get a look at the people of the village, as well as the the village itself. It looks like they at least did a good job creating those elements! [...]

Comic Review: The Last Days of American Crime #2

Guy_Jen   |

The Last Days of American Crime #2
Written by: Rick Remender
Art by: Greg Tocchini
Cover by: Alex Maleev
Letters by: Rus Wooton
Radical Comics
Price: $4.99
Release Date: April 28, 2010

The Last Days of American Crime is another Rick Remender creator-owned book that is riddled with his originality and twists. Best described as a Science Fiction and Crime book, the basic premise is, what if the government announced that in a few days it would be sending a transmission that made it impossible to commit a crime through a type of mind control. As if that was not enough we are thrust into a world that no longer has a use for paper money.

This story shows that two genres that generally do not mix are compatible and interesting when meshed together with great skill and great art. Plus, how could you not feel like you’re getting your money’s worth when you are only paying two dollars more and you’re getting three times the content as a normal comic? The issue is like a mini trade paperback [...]

Brand New Movies Soon To Be Available In Your Home; The Death Of Theaters Imminent?

The Movie God   |

If you had the option to watch the biggest and best new movies in the comfort of your own home on the day that they were released in theaters, would you take it? Even if it meant that movie theaters would suffer greatly, and maybe even disappear?

In November of 2009, the Motion Picture Association of America, Inc. (MPAA) submitted a request to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) asking that it be allowed for new movies to be available in the comfort of people’s homes either on the day of theatrical release or sometime soon after release so that those who can’t make it out to theaters have the option to see films when they’re new.

Yesterday, the MPAA announced that the FCC had indeed approved of the request, making this future movie-watching option official. This was somewhat impossible for a while, but it looks like the deciding factor is that now there is the proper “selectable output control,” which allows for the highest-quality HD films to be offered securely. This should prevent would-be bootleggers from just using their own outputs to acquire the HD-quality films illegally from home.

If you had the option to watch the biggest and best new movies in the comfort of your own home on the day that they were released in theaters, would you take it? Even if it meant that movie theaters would suffer greatly, and maybe even disappear? [...]

Producer Says ‘Silent Hill 2′ Getting Set To Film This Spring

The Movie God   |

Don Carmody, producer behind movies like The Boondock Saints, Get Carter, Silent Hill, Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, and Resident Evil: Afterlife, recently spoke to FEARnet during a set visit in Toronto about upcoming projects, including Silent Hill 2.

While discussing Afterlife and things like why they decided to go 3D this time, a question was asked as to how faithful they remain to the original video games these days, or if they just kind of make up their own stories and characters now that they’re four films into the franchise. Carmody explained that they know these movies have to appeal to faithful fans of the games and of movies in general, which is where Silent Hill 2 came up.

Carmody says:

We have always been cognizant of that — we can’t make the movies just for gamers. Of course, we always run the risk of incurring the wrath of the gamers — who are very vocal. I did Silent Hill and we are planning a Silent Hill 2 — we were getting hate mail for that one. [...]

Fox’s ‘Planet Of The Apes’ Prequel To Use CGI Apes

The Movie God   |

20th Century Fox is moving forward with their next movie in the Planet of the Apes franchise, and this time around the movie will be a prequel of sorts, telling an origin story of a race of evolved humanoid apes who rise up to fight for control of the planet.

The new film, titled Rise of the Apes, is described as being set in San Francisco where “man’s own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.” It will be directed by Rupert Wyatt (The Escapist), with Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa (The Hand That Rocked the Cradle, The Relic) touching up the script originally penned by Scott Frank and re-penned by Jamie Moss.

Another bit of information regarding this project — one that won’t have fans very thrilled — is that Weta Digital will apparently be crafting CGI apes for use in the film, instead of going with the traditional live-action, sit-in-a-chair-for-6-hours of makeup jobs that have been done in previous films. Brad Bird To Direct Tom Cruise In ‘Mission: Impossible IV’

The Movie God   |

Brad Bird is best known for his work on animated feature films. He wrote and directed The Iron Giant, as well as both The Incredibles and Ratatouille for Pixar. Back in March of 2008, it was reported that Bird would make his live-action debut with 1906, a movie about a son trying to figure out who killed his father around the time that the devastating San Francisco earthquake of 1906 struck.

While Bird is still working on 1906, it now looks like it will not be his first live-action title; after months of rumors and reports that the director was one of the names being pursued to direct Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible IV, Cruise himself has confirmed himself that Bird is indeed the man for the job.

It looks like it came down to Bird and Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz director Edgar Wright for the gig, but with Wright currently working on Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, that situation didn’t work out. Wright-constant Simon Pegg of course starred in Mission: Impossible III, allowing Cruise and producer J.J. Abrams to meet Edgar. [...]

Summer Movie Mayhem 2010

The Movie God   |

Summer you say? Already? We thought it was like February still…no?

Yes indeed, that joyous time of year when movie fans can put their brains away to hibernate for a few months (for the most part), and bask in the glory that is the Summer movie season. It’s time to re-open the cinematic buffet and, as always, this year will deliver all of the bangs and booms, the violence and sex, and the shocks and laughs that you the moviegoers crave when the sun is at its hottest.

This year is a little different than we’ve been used to — almost like a year off in terms of true spectacle. There’s more than your fair share of big names and sequels being released, but unlike last year and even next year, the summer won’t be dominated by them. Instead, there’s plenty of remakes, adaptations, and a mixture of all genres from the traditional action-packed firework festivals and comedies to less-traditional fare such as historical epics, science fiction horrors, cult classics-in-the-making, and psychological mind-benders. ‘Captain America’ Casts Toby Jones To Play The Villain Zola

The Movie God   |

Joe Johnston isn’t settling for one villain in his upcoming Marvel Studios comic book adaptation, Captain America. The director has grabbed Toby Jones to play a second baddie, named Arnim Zola.

Zola was an evil biochemist during World War II,who figured out a way to take everything about a person’s mental signature and basically burn them into a cloned brain. His work was sometimes funded by Red Skull, who was the first villain cast in Captain America, to be played by Hugo Weaving (Lord of the Rings, The Matrix).

Zola’s desire to play God was put to use for none other than Adolf Hitler, whose brain patterns were imprinted onto what became Hate-Monger so that Hitler could live on in the event of his own death. He even burned himself into his own new body, which looks similar the body that Krang from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles walked around in, only more robotic. [...]

Marvel Comics
Price: $2.99
Release Date: April 28, 2010

Thor #609 continues the story arc of what is happening with all the Asgardians during Siege. We get a follow up to most of our stories and a hint of what is coming for all of Asgard. Mysteriously, there is no Thor in this issue at all but this isn’t surprising since he is still banished from Asgard. Kieron Gillen is doing a great job of juggling all of these storylines and I am extremely happy with this team even though I was very worried about the changeover back when it happened. I am happy to report that I am completely on board for everything that has happened and will happen in the Thor universe and that editorial has done a great job of letting the art transition and flow into Billy Tan‘s run.

Billy Tan’s art really stands out as a perfect fit to the Thor universe. This is very important to me as a Thor fan because there is a certain look that needs to be kept for the book [...]

The Incredibles #8
Written by: Landry Walker
Art/Cover by: Marcio Takara
Colors by: Andrew Dalhouse
BOOM! Studios
Price: $2.99
Release Date: April 28, 2010

Well here we go again with a brand new story arc in the wonderful ongoing series based off a Pixar movie The Incredibles. If you haven’t been reading the series up to this point don’t get too uptight because you will be able to jump on with this issue. The fact that you can jump onto this story arc with each new arc is definitely a plus, especially since it is meant for the younger audience and it would be harder to expect them to go back and read everything that has happened up to this point. As always Landry Walker‘s writing is very fluid and easy to follow.

Well at this point in the story we find out a couple things. There is a crime committed to set the mood for the book in who The Incredibles will be dealing with this arc. We also see that it is time for Violet to get a job because she needs to be responsible like the adult she says she is. The most exciting story point that I want to see more of is that Dash is now going to begin his training. Mr. Incredible makes it sound mysterious and dangerous, but hopefully we will see for ourselves [...]

Disney’s Star Tours To Launch Last Tour To Endor

Empress Eve   |

Last September, Disney announced that the Star Tours attraction at their Disney World and Disneyland theme parks would close for refurbishments, which would include integrating Disney Real-D 3D, high definition, and improved simulations and special effects, with a reopening set for 2011.

The Last Tour to Endor is a ticketed event at the park, which costs $75 per person, and will include specially themed intergalactic party zones, Star Wars shows, and a Death Star Disco, with the evening ending with Symphony in the Stars – a Star Wars fireworks spectacular. Last Tour ticket-holders will be able to gain early entrance to Disney’s Hollywood Studios at 4:00pm that day, four hours before the event begins.

Exclusive Spy Report: JJ Abrams’ ‘Super 8’ Teaser Trailer Description

Empress Eve   |

Earlier this week, word got out that a teaser trailer for a new J.J. Abrams film called Super 8 would be playing in theaters in front of showings of Iron Man 2, starting with tonight’s midnight screenings.

Of course, initial reports were that Super 8 was somehow connected to another Abrams property, 2008′s Cloverfield, as either a sequel or more likely, a prequel [read Is There A 'Cloverfield 2' Teaser Trailer Attached To 'Iron Man 2'?]. Abrams has since insisted that the film has nothing to do with Cloverfield, but being the man of mystery he is, would not offer up what it is about.

We have a super spy report on the soon-to-be released Super 8 teaser trailer that was given exclusively to Geeks of Doom by a very reliable source. You can read all about the footage here below, but here’s some non-spoilery facts that came direct from the teaser [...]

Price: $2.99
Release Date: March 24, 2010

Thor has really been at the forefront of the Marvel universe lately, which has definitely let it shine. This is great for me because I am a huge fanboy of good Thor stories. He is my favorite character in all of comics and lately his book has been my favorite monthly comic book. I continually put it to the top of my stack and I am extremely happy with what Kieron Gillen has been able to do with this exciting opportunity to bring Thor’s universe to the forefront.

With Siege raging on, and centering around Asgard, more people are paying attention to Thor than ever before. The last thing I would have thought to do with that opportunity is focus on a character as surprisingly interesting as Volstagg, but that is exactly what Gillen and the rest of the Siege writers have decided to do. I am extremely pleased with the result of this chain of events that very closely mirrors the events of Stamford (from Marvel’s Civil War event) [...]

‘Super Troopers’ Group Broken Lizard To Bring New Series To Comedy Central?

The Movie God   |

Deadline Hollywood has the full slate of new shows and concepts that are being tested and developed for Comedy Central. There’s certainly a healthy amount of prospective new shows looking to wow the executives, and though only a few will ultimately find themselves getting a greenlight, only one really stands out at this moment.

That show is currently untitled, and it’s from a little comedy troupe known as Broken Lizard. The gang made swarms of fans with the release of 2001′s Super Troopers, which still to this day remains as quotable and hilarious as ever. After that, they went on to create films such as Club Dread, Beerfest, and the recently-released Slammin’ Salmon.

Click on over to the other side to check out the entire list of hopeful shows that Comedy Central will be looking at, including one with the hilarious Jon Benjamin and even Waiting the TV series?

Not much is known about the show yet, but it’s described as being about “four minor-league umpires” and it will be written by members Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Erik Stolhankse, Paul Soter. No mention of Jay Chandrasekhar yet. [...]

Geek Peek: First Image From New ‘Futurama’ Released!

The Movie God   |

Back in the beginning of March, it was announced that the desperately-wanted return of Futurama would finally make its second series debut on June 24, 2010 at 10pm EST. Now the very first image from the show’s big comeback has been released, and it’s a bit strange.

The Matt Groening and David X. Cohen series, which ran for four seasons from 1999 to 2003, was canceled by Fox after they severely-mishandled the show and moved it all over the TV schedule thanks to sporting events and not-so-bright executives. This didn’t sit well with fans, and as you know they’ve been fighting to get it back ever since. A fifth season in the form of four direct-to-DVD movies proved the fan-base was stronger than ever, and the sixth season was finally greenlighted almost one year before it’s scheduled return to your TV.

Click on over to check out the gruesome (yet still hilarious) first image from Futurama‘s return! [...]
