You’ve Heard About ‘Human Centipede’ The Movie — Now Play The Game!

The Movie God   |

I have not seen the shocking new torture porn horror film, Human Centipede. In fact, it might just be the first movie I never see simply based just on what I’ve heard or read about the movie so far…unless curiosity gets the best of me, that is. Horror movies are some of the most fun you can have when it comes to watching, but when the fun is removed and the only goal is to make you as uncomfortable as possible, that’s where this fan usually loses all interest.

Nevertheless, that shouldn’t stop us from having fun now, should it? The folks over at I-Mockery had this very same perspective, and it lead to the creation of Human Centipede: The Game!

Throw on your doctor’s coat and grab a scalpel or shot gun and head on over to the other side to find out where to play Human Centipede: The Game. This is all in 8-bit and rather silly, but some may still find it offensive for some reason, so a NSFW is in effect here. [...]

Stanley Tucci Joins The Cast Of ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’

The Movie God   |

Marvel Studios has announced that Stanley Tucci has officially joined the cast of one of their two massive comic book titles arriving next summer, Captain America: The First Avenger. Tucci is reportedly playing Dr. Abraham Erskine, one of the German scientists involved in what the comics called “Project Rebirth,” which is what lead to the creation of the super soldiers that turned Steve Rogers into Captain America during World War II.

Tucci is of course one of the great character actor who’s always good in any and everything that he does, no matter what the movie is or how good or bad it is. Some of his notable performances have come in titles like The Pelican Brief, The Imposters, A Midsummer’s Night Dream, Big Trouble, Road to Perdition, The Devil Wears Prada, and of course, his Oscar-nominated turn in Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones.

The movie of course will star Chris Evans as the superhero. [...]

Olivia Munn Leaving G4TV For ‘The Daily Show’?

Tom Cheredar   |

Olivia Munn, who is perhaps best known for her work as co-host of G4TV’s Attack of the Show, made her debut as a fake-news correspondent for Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, which was billed as a “tryout” for the actress, according to Reuters.

Munn appeared in a sketch about the Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill’s effect on Vietnamese fishermen on the June 3 episode with a pregnant Samantha Bee. And, while met with strong applause when introduced by host Jon Stewart as the newest Asian correspondent, reactions from fans have been mixed across the web.

Typically tryouts on The Daily Show have been given to relatively unknowns, which Munn, who appeared as a reporter in summer blockbuster Iron Man 2, clearly is not. If she does end up as a regular it could mean a departure from G4TV and hopefully an open door for some of her peers to follow suit [*ahem*chrishardwick*ahem*] .

Check out the sketch embedded below and tell us what you think. Hilarious? Horrible? [...]

Brett Ratner To Produce Live-Action Update Of ‘Snow White’

The Movie God   |

As was completely expected, Disney classics and fairy tale reinventions are continuing to grow toward being the next big craze.

Alice in Wonderland of course got a new live-action/motion-capture makeover and Johnny Depp, and went on to pull down over a billion dollars worldwide. Since then, we’ve heard that a new take on the evil Sleeping Beauty villain called Maleficent was on the way, and that a new live-action take on the tale of Cinderella was in motion as well.

Now comes word via Deadline that a brand new version of Snow White is now in the making. Relativity Media has preemptively acquired the rights to The Brothers Grimm: Snow White, which is a script penned by Melisa Wallack (Bill). The script is said to be a lot more faithful to the 500-year-old folk tale that Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was based on, and that it will be much more edgy and funnier. [...]

‘Hurt Locker’ Star Jeremy Renner Set To Play Hawkeye In ‘The Avengers’

The Movie God   |

Though it’s been spoken of quite often over the past few months, it’s now being reported that Jeremy Renner is in final negotiations to star as Hawkeye in Marvel’s epic upcoming merging of superhero forces in The Avengers.

Hawkeye will be joining the already-packed lineup including Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), The Incredible Hulk (though it remains unknown whether Edward Norton will return or if other options will be used), and lots more.

This movie should become the ultimate dream flick for comic book fanatics all over the world, so long as all of these different story arcs and characters we’ve seen built up are all brought together carefully. Naturally, there’s a growing fear that this plan has gotten too big, and everything might just crash together at the end of the road.

Renner has been around for a while but really broke out the past couple of years with great turns in films like The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and The Hurt Locker, which nabbed him an Oscar nomination and went on to win Best Picture. [...]

Zombies And Vampires Rejoice: ‘Blood’ Energy Drinks Now Available

Tom Cheredar   |

Harcos Laboratories, the makers of Mana Potion Energy Shots [which coincidentally look very similar to the ones found in MMORPG World of Warcraft], has released their latest creation: Blood.

Yes, of course they didn’t invent “blood,” but they did do a stellar job in manufacturing an energy drink that looks like you raided a ‘donate blood-mobile’.

Each “Blood Potion” is packaged in a 3.4 oz pouch similar to an I.V. bag found inside any hospital. A single bag contains 80 mg of caffeine as well as other supplements intended to give you a boost when stricken with the bloodlust. It’s best served warm (no, I’m not kidding) like real human blood, which can be achieved by placing it into the microwave for about 14 seconds, according to the manufacturer’s web site LivingWithBloodlust.com [...]

Spoiler Talk: Splice

Guy_Jen   |

Are you looking for something that will make you think that you have been dosed with a weird drug in your popcorn butter? Well Splice will do that without a doubt. If you are looking for an odd trip through the world of science fiction with a mix of morality and touch of suspense, than this is definitely your movie.

Adrien Brody plays his normal out there character, Clive, that we have all started to expect out of him. We also get Elsa, an odd almost sadistic character portrayed by Sarah Polley. Along with these two human characters we also get Dren, a heavily CGI creature played by Delphine Chaneac and Abigail Chu that will probably keep you thoroughly weirded out throughout the entire movie.

So if you are a fan of movies like Alien or Predator, than get ready for a very interesting ride through cloning and other ethical dilemmas. Science fiction will definitely not be revolutionized by this movie, but it is an interesting movie that gets the audience to ask a lot of questions of the world and themselves. Overall I had a good experience with this very rare quality sci-fi flick and would definitely recommend it to friends who don’t mind a very weird experience at the movies.

Well whether or not you are ready for it, it is that time again SPOILER TALK! The following are my spoiler-filled thoughts about the movie and you should definitely stop by the comment section and leave your thoughts as well [...]

Comixology Releases Beta App For Desktop Computers

Guy_Jen   |

Comixology CEO David Steinberger released a video on the company’s Vimeo site debuting their beta app for desktop computers and talking a little bit about the plan for the full release. The interesting thing is that Comixology is letting anyone with a Comixology account or anyone who wants to register an account use the beta. That is right, if you click the link above, you can go check out all the free comics on your desktop right now!

Steinberger was definitely open with all of the details and plans that Comixology has for this app. The good points are a bigger screen to read all the comics on, you can switch between two page and the special panel by panel view and even enter a full screen mode, as well as whatever you buy on one platform (iPad, iPhone, or Desktop) you will own on every platform. So if you are reading on the go and get home and want to switch to a bigger screen you can just go over to your desktop and continue reading.

The next big question is of course, is this just another neat trick or will this actually influence more people to switch to a digital format on a larger scale? [...]

Book Review: Android Karenina

Empress Eve   |

Android Karenina
By Leo Tolstoy & Ben H. Winters
Paperback Edition
Quirk Classics
Release date: June 8, 2010

This review of Android Karenina is part of the Quirk Classics Blogsplosion event, where you can enter for a chance to win one of 25 Quirk Books prize-packs. Visit Quirk Classics to enter and be sure to tell them that Geeks of Doom sent you!

Literary monster mash-ups are all the rage these days with most of the fun not only happening in England, but in the 19th century fictional world of Jane Austen thanks to titles like Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters. With the success of these books, it’s no wonder that historical and popular fictional characters are getting in on the action with Queen Victoria hunting demons (Queen Victoria: Demon Hunter), the young ladies of Little Women facing werewolves (Little Women and Werewolves), and even President Abraham Lincoln is out there stalking vampires (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter).

There’s no doubt vampires, werewolves, and other creatures of the night will be invading, stalking, and menacing Regency England many more times in the future, but if you want a little variety in your literary mash-ups, then look no further than Android Karenina, the newest selection in the Quirk Classics library.

In Android Karenina, author Ben H. Winters takes Leo Tolstoy‘s classic Anna Karenina, set in 19th century Russia, and converts it into a futuristic science fiction tale with robots, mechanical terrorists, and space travel, all made possible by the discovery of the “Miracle Metal” groznium.

Did you catch that? Robots… all types of robots from manservants to laborers to mechanical animals to massive attack cyborgs controlled by an anti-government terrorist organization known as UnConSciya (Union of Concerned Scientists) [...]

Students Turn Observatory Into R2-D2

Tom Cheredar   |

An observatory at Carleton College was decorated to look like familiar Star Wars droid R2-D2 as a prank by a group of students.

The pranksters draped several white bedsheets with blue and black spraypaint around the building and stuck sheets of paper on the dome and entrance to mimic the droid’s likeness. They even have the sound effects going on in the background while [I'm assuming] employees assess the situation and enter the facility.

For photos of the R2-D2-ized observatory, check out the college’s Facebook page or watch a video of the prank below, which is awkwardly filmed sideways, but no less impressive [...]

Would You Watch ‘Taskmaster’ And ‘Preacher’ Movies?

Vactor   |

Would you watch Taskmaster and Preacher movies?

The A-Team director Joe Carnahan certainly hopes so.

Carnahan recently spoke to Superhero Hype about the Taskmaster adaptation he was working on with The A-Team producer Alex Young.

Taskmaster is a Marvel Comics villain who first appeared in 1980 in Avengers #195, and is a character that Carnahan considers to be “below the radar.”

“Originally I wanted to do ‘Juggernaut’ ’cause I had a really good take on that, and then ‘Taskmaster’ was something we talked about, and I haven’t discussed it with [Young] for ages, but I would love to get back in. I love the idea of a guy with photographic reflexes, he can see something and repeat it, I thought that was such a cool idea.”

“I think it might be one of those Marvel characters you really need to reimagine because he’s got the whole skull and cape. It’s a bit grandiose I think — but it would certainly be a cool thing.” [...]

Tom Cruise Resurrects ‘Tropic Thunder’ Suit Les Grossman For MTV Movie Awards

The Movie God   |

Aside from the trailers shown off at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards, there was pretty much only one other thing that really stood out as memorable and hilarious. That, surprisingly, came in the return of Les Grossman, the vulgar, in-your-face movie-producing head honcho who made such a memorable mark in the Hollywood parody, Tropical Thunder.

Grossman (played brilliantly by the not-always-sane but still incredibly-talented Tom Cruise) opened the show up with a pre-recorded skit in which he takes on the producing duties of the MTV Movie Awards and goes on to offer advice (in his own loving way) to The Twilight Saga stars Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, and then to young Jaden Smith while poppa Will Smith stands by.

A little later on, stars of The Hangover Ken Jeong and Ed Helms opened up a musical number, which quickly gets Grossman’s attention and forces him to keep the show going himself with a dance number with JLo!

Again, these were pretty much the only thing entertaining about the ceremony, but now you can skip wasting time with the whole show and just click over to the other side and watch the videos now! [...]

MTV Movie Awards Trailers For ‘Harry Potter,’ ‘Twilight,’ ‘Scott Pilgrim’ & ‘Last Airbender’

The Movie God   |

In case you had not heard, the 2010 MTV Movie Awards aired last night. And in case you actually cared, they sucked as they have for the past five years or so… give or take and all that.

The problem with the awards is that they went from being cool to aiming at pre-teen kids as their audience far too much. Not only that, but then actually letting them vote, which leads to the most preposterous things you could possibly think of even nominating going on to take home the popcorn trophy and embarrassing true movie fans everywhere.

Even so, each year usually brings at least one or two things worth mentioning, and some exciting new trailers to check out. This year, the big world premiere trailers shown were for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, The Last Airbender, and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.

If you’re excited about that last trailer, then you probably actually loved this year’s MTV Movie Awards, but because we try to love all of our readers as equally as possible, we wanted to show them all off.

Movie Review: Splice

The Insomniac   |

Movie Review: Splice
Directed by Vincenzo Natali
Starring Sarah Polley, Adrian Brody, Delphine Chanaec
Release date: June 4, 2010

On May 21, 2010, it was announced that Craig Ventor, made famous by his work on the Human Genome Project, had successfully created artificial, self-replicating life in a laboratory setting.

For the makers of Splice, the timing couldn’t have been better.

Canada, my own stomping ground, has a long and proud horror history that few people take notice of, and Splice is a smart edition to a genre that has been suffering from remake ennui. Warner Brothers, in conjunction with the good people at Dark Castle, have produced a smart, sexy modern day monster flick that pushes all the right buttons as the debate about biotechnology heats up.

Adrian Brody (The Pianist, King Kong) and Sarah Polley (Dawn of The Dead, Beowulf and Grendel) star as a pair of ultra-hip, cutting edge scientists in the employ of a global pharmaceutical company who have made a name for themselves designing artificial life forms. There first successful project was a pair named Fred and Ginger. The company hopes to profit on the enzymes that the pair create to cure livestock disease, but it’s the dream of the researchers hope to take their research to the next phase. In defiance of their corporate masters, they create a human genetic hybrid and that’s when the fit really hits the shan [...]

‘Batman: Arkham Asylum 2′ To Be The Last Of Mark Hamill’s Joker

The Movie God   |

When it comes to the voice of infamous Batman villain The Joker in animated series, video games, and even things like toys and other merchandise, there is simply no one better than Mark Hamill.

The man best known for playing Luke Skywalker in the original (and only, to some) Star Wars trilogy has also handled the voice of the colorful Joker on the Batman and Superman animated series, The New Batman Adventures, more comical shows like Robot Chicken, and of course, in the highly-popular 2008 video game, Batman: Arkham Asylum.

With that game going on to make an insane $562 million, a sequel was guaranteed and pretty much went directly into production on Batman: Arkham Asylum 2, already delivering a teaser trailer this past December (Read: Video Game Awards ‘09: ‘Batman: Arkham Asylum 2′ Trailer). But according to reports, Mr. Hamill himself was not so guaranteed.

While speaking to IGN at the Cannes Film Festival about The Black Pearl, his comic book for which he just announced intentions of directing a movie adaptation of himself, Hamill was asked about Arkham Asylum 2. [...]

‘Anchorman’ Star Paul Rudd To Play Idiot Brother In ‘My Idiot Brother’

The Movie God   |

Likely Story and Big Beach Films have announced the signing of Paul Rudd to star in their new movie, My Idiot Brother.

The movie will tell the story of a man named Ned (Rudd) who lives life to his own plans and views and not how everyone expects he should live his life. Because of this — though he may be happy in his own little bubble of contentment — success isn’t so glaring in his real world, and so he finds himself living with each of his three successful sisters, and his harsh and overwhelming mother.

My Idiot Brother will be directed by Jesse Peretz, who has worked with Rudd in the past on a film called The Château. Other things that he has directed included The Ex with Zach Braff and Jason Bateman, and six episodes of Important Things with Demetri Martin.

The screenplay is penned by an interesting duo in Evgenia Peretz and David Schisgall. Evgenia is the sibling of director Peretz, and this is her first screenplay. Before this, she was already well-established as a contributing editor to Vanity Fair magazine. [...]
