Will Apple’s iTV Have Support For Netflix?

Apple‘s next television product — said to be dubbed iTV — could feature support for popular video rental subscription service Netflix, Business Week reports.
If true, a Netfix-enabled iTV would surely be a huge hit given the device’s speculated $99 price tag. The new TV product would also feature a multitude of potential apps that would presumably also work with iPhone and iPad operating system iOS.
This might also be the reason the current favorite set top streaming media box Roku just received a price drop across the board — their low-end model now just $59 [...]

Darren Aronofsky’s ‘Black Swan’ & ‘The Wrestler’ Were Once The Same Movie

News has been rather slow lately, so here’s an interesting little story to help you pass your time.
Recently, the first trailer for Requiem for A Dream and The Fountain director Darren Aronofsky‘s new movie, Black Swan, was released online and has been sparking a lot of attention…as most Aronofsky films tend to do. If you’ve yet to see the trailer, be sure to check it out now (Read: Watch Now: Darren Aronofsky’s ‘Black Swan’ Is A Ballerina Movie You’ll Want To See ). And now comes word that there’s a little more to his ballet movie than meets the eye.
Apparently, the director had originally planned out an idea about a wrestler and ballet dancer involved in a love affair. This was about ten years ago, and as you might have guessed, the idea branched out into two films: first The Wrestler, and now Black Swan.
Even better, the movies do still share connections that we’ll notice when watching, which should be pretty cool to see. Click over for a quote from Aronofsky himself. [...]

Remake Of Clive Barker’s ‘Hellraiser’ May Be Doomed; New Direct To DVD Sequel Coming

You might think that with the high-profile remakes of classic horror titles like Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween, and many others we’ve seen produced, it wouldn’t be at all difficult to get one made these days, but this is not the case.
One of the remakes that was set to head our way, was that of horror master Clive Barker‘s Hellraiser. And thought fans likely didn’t want to see it, even Barker himself stated that he was OK with remakes so long as they were done faithfully. Even so, the remake has faced a bumpy road to production, and it now appears that it might not even happen at all. Apparently Dimension Films was in talks with Christian E. Christiansen to direct, but those talks have now ended. At one point Pascal Laugier was attached to direct, but clearly that relationship also ended.
The reason that Dimension is having so much trouble finding a director is because they’re being really picky about who ultimately makes it. [...]

‘Clash Of The Titans 2′ Grabs Jonathan Liebesman To Direct

A sequel to Louis Leterrier‘s epic blockbuster remake, Clash of the Titans, was announced almost immediately after the first movie was released on April 2, 2010. Clash went on to make over $491 million in worldwide box office, bringing back well over its $125 million price tag and, despite what you thought of the movie itself, leaving the decision whether to actually go through with Clash of the Titans 2 or not was pretty crystal clear.
As for who would direct the sequel, it was unclear at first whether Leterrier would return or if he’d be replaced. Now we know that he’s officially out and that South African director Jonathan Liebesman will be stepping in to take his place. No word on if Leterrier just decided to move on to other things or if it was the studios choice to try someone new.
Liebsman doesn’t have many credits on his resume yet, but his new movie Battle: Los Angeles was one of the many that made a splash at the recent San Diego Comic Con. In addition to that, he helmed horror titles Darkness Falls and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. [...]

First Teaser Trailer For Gary King’s ‘How Do You Write A Joe Schermann Song’ Is Here

Back in April we wrote about a website called Kickstarter, which allows independent filmmakers and other artists to try and obtain the funding necessary to make their dream projects a reality (Read: Want To Help Get An Independent Movie Made? Now You Can! ).
The website works so well because instead of just asking people to donate their money, things like posters, soundtracks, and DVDs (sometimes signed), and special perks like thanks in the credits, invites to special events and set visits, or even producer credits (if you drop enough coin, of course) are offered in exchange for your help.
In that article, the project showcased was How to Write a Joe Schermann Song, the new musical from indie filmmaker Gary King. It came right down to the wire (there’s a deadline in which you need to reach your monetary goal), but the goal was indeed reached, and the movie has been moving forward ever since. With this past weekend came word that the first teaser trailer for the movie would be released today, and it’s here now for you all to see! [...]

Comic Review: Jesus Hates Zombies Vol. 4
 |
Posted by Henchman21 | August 30th, 2010 at 11:14 am |

Jesus Hates Zombies
Yea, Though I Walk Volume 4
Written by Stephen Lindsay
Art by Daniel Thollin
Published by Alterna Comics
Price: $6.99
Available Now
Jesus is back and he’s ready for his final showdown with the angel Gabriel and his army of the undead. Yes, Jesus is ready to take on the undead hordes, and he’s brought his pal Abraham Lincoln along with him. Okay, this all sounds crazy, but that’s the best thing about Jesus Hates Zombies featuring Lincoln Hates Werewolves in Yea, Though I Walk Volume 4 (see, even the title is insane).
For a book called Jesus Hates Zombies, this is not nearly as blasphemous as you might think it would be. Writer Stephen Lindsay does not make fun of Jesus; he doesn’t even really make fun of Christians (which would be an easy way for a weaker writer to go). He just wants to tell a goofy but fun zombie story. Sure, it may have a few more religious trappings than other zombie books, but Lindsay’s goal is not really to examine religion. You can tell when a writer is being mean towards religion, and I never get that feeling from this book. This is an action movie, complete with explosions and epic fights [...]

DVD Review: Wolverine and The X-Men, Vol. 4: Fate of the Future

Wolverine and the X-Men, Vol. 4: Fate of the Future
DVD
Featuring the voices of Steve Blum, Jennifer Hale, Tom Kane
Release Date: February 2, 2010
While it is especially satisfying to find an episodic cartoon that is a cut above the rest and rises above the genre itself, there is nothing wrong with a simple kid’s cartoon that hits all the right entertaining beats. This is exactly what the Wolverine and The X-Men Vol. 4 delivers.
For those who have just joined the ride, Wolvie and the X-Men is the continuing story of an alternate X-Men universe. This world is not exactly “world turned upside down” different, but the subtle changes, along with the additions of some of the details from the comic and movie version gives this an almost Elseworlds type of feel [...]

Today Is ‘Read Comics In Public’ Day

Avid consumers of graphic fiction, it’s time for you to grab a small stack of comic books or a good graphic novel and head out to a public park, coffee shop or other crowded venue. Today is international “Read Comics In Public” day and coincidentally also the birthday of legendary artist Jack Kirby.
The point of reading comics in public is to help end the feeling of embarrassment associated with reading comic books, explains Editor of The Daily Cross Hatch Brian Heater, who came up with the idea.
“Take to the streets. Be proud. If someone asks what you’re reading, say, “a comic book” (the phrase “graphic novel is also acceptable, but let’s face it, it sort of defeats the whole purpose). Heck, lend them a book, if you’ve got an extra—what better way to make a new friend and convert a new reader?,” Heater writes on the Day’s official blog.

FUBAR is a zombie anthology with a twist. The stories take place during World War II. The conflict and tension of war is only heightened when legions of undead monsters are thrown into the mix. This unique backdrop also proves to be a wellspring of creativity, as evidenced by the great stories being told in this collection.
There are so many interesting tales in this collection, and I wish that I could mention them all. A few stories that I really enjoyed were “Bearer of Secrets”, about a Jewish executioner, a concentration camp prisoner, and a German soldier forced to work together to escape the zombie threat. In “If God be for Us”, an American priest has a deadly encounter with zombified American soldiers. “Stalemate” is another unique story about American and German soldiers making their final stand against the Germans in a fortified bunker. In “De Guer”, two Dutch men send a blind boy out into the field to evade the zombies and help them gain their freedom. “Golem’s Last Stand” is another fascinating story about a Jewish girl who uses a dying American soldier in a very special way to destroy the zombie soldiers intent on eating her and her family. In all of these tales and the others in the book, you can feel the anguish and frustration of the humans already caught up in the grips of war and now being forced to contend with the presence of zombies. John Cusack Announces He’ll Play Edgar Allan Poe In James McTeigue’s ‘The Raven’

It’s always strange when an actor decides to make an announcement about a role they’ll be playing instead of seeing it in a press release or through trade report.
Nevertheless, sometimes this does happen, and today John Cusack decided to share a sizable announcement via his Twitter account. The actor shared that he would be playing none other than Edgar Allan Poe in James McTeigue‘s new movie, The Raven. Cusack tweeted “officiali- will play edgar allen poe in fall-a-film called the raven, send any poe- gold – my way as i begin this journey into the abyss.”
What we know about the movie is that it will tell the story of Poe’s mysterious final days in the 19th century as he tries to solve a string of murders committed using the stories of Poe as inspiration. Along with The Raven, other classic tales being integrated into the film include Tell-Tale Heart, Premature Burial, Murders in the Rue Morgue, and The Cask of Amontillado, all with a tone comparable to that of David Fincher’s Se7en. New Movies This Week: Which Will You Go See? [August 27, 2010]
 |
Posted by Dave3 | August 27th, 2010 at 9:49 pm |

Which movie will you go see this weekend?
You know how you can tell that summer is winding down, my lovely geeks and geekettes? By looking at the movie section in the newspaper (I can hear some “What’s that?” from the peanut gallery). All the summer movies have come, most have gone, and some have even made their way back into the theater.
And with Summer’s end comes the movie studio’s last ditch effort to grab at your few remaining dollars before we all wise up and decide we need the cash for our Na’vi Halloween costumes or the sure-to-be-made-available-for-Christmas Tron-themed X-Box 360.
So, have a look at what’s in theaters this weekend and let’s discuss, shall we? [...]

DVD Review: The Guild Season 3
 |
Posted by Guy_Jen | August 27th, 2010 at 5:17 pm |

The Guild
Season 3 DVD
Directed Sean Becker
Starring Felicia Day, Jeff Lewis
Release date: May 25, 2010
Are you a gamer? Have you ever played an M.M.O.R.P.G.? Do you like comedy? If you said yes to any of these questions, then The Guild is a show for you. This is one of my favorite shows and every time the DVDs come out, I buy them right away. The Guild: Season 1 DVD was no exception as I was extremely excited for this season, as much if not more than I was the first two seasons. As with Kevin Smith movies, the special features make it worth the price alone.
Basically, The Guild follows a group of World of Warcraft players, although it isn’t referred to as that specifically it is meant to be that game, who form a guild and through the guild discuss their issues. Most of the time they don’t realize that they are helping each other become less dysfunctional. All of them have a different personality and different social issues and they all need each other to call each other on their crap. This is the basics of the show as a whole [...]

Five Page Preview for Stan Lee’s New Comic ‘Soldier Zero’
 |
Posted by Henchman21 | August 27th, 2010 at 12:22 pm |

BOOM! Studios and POW! Entertainment have sent us a five-page preview from Soldier Zero #1, the new comic created by comic legend Stan Lee.
Check out the five pages, as well as the various covers, here below.
Soldier Zero, written by Paul Cornell (Action Comics) with art by Javier Pina (Superman), will be out in November, and is available for pre-order now so if these pages look good to you, make sure you tell your comic book guy to hook you up.
Soldier Zero is about a normal college student named Stewart Travers and what happens when a parasite falls to Earth, transforming him into a weapon. It sounds like a combination of Spider-Man, Green Lantern, and about a million anime series, but with Cornell behind the typewriter, it could turn out to be a pretty decent series. And judging from these preview pages, the art is looking decent as well [...]

Albert Brooks To Channel Inner Mobster; Joins Ryan Gosling & Carey Mulligan In ‘Drive’

Albert Brooks is one of the most talented actors working today. He was nominated for an Academy Award in 1987′s Broadcast News, and has made memorable performances in movies like Taxi Driver, Twilight Zone: The Movie (which haunted my childhood), and of course, my personal favorite, as Marlin the Clown Fish in Finding Nemo.
One thing Mr. Brooks hasn’t done much of in his career so far is the “bad guy” character, but that all looks to soon change. It’s being reported that Brooks has joined the cast of Drive, the new film from Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn. The movie is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by author James Sallis.
Drive stars fellow Academy Award nominee Ryan Gosling as a stunt car driver who spends his nights working as a getaway driver and finds himself caught up in a sticky situation. Brooks will play a feared mobster named Bernie Rose, who hails from New York but now does his work in Los Angeles. The movie also stars Oscar nominated An Education actress Carey Mulligan and Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston. [...]

Geek Peek: First Images Of Paul W.S. Anderson’s ‘Three Musketeers’

A few new images from the set of Paul W.S. Anderson‘s new adaptation of The Three Musketeers have shown up online.
The pictures show Mads Mikkelsen (King Arthur, Casino Royale) as Rochefort, and Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief star and former Spider-Man candidate Logan Lerman as the lead, D’Artagnan. It’s not the best peek at Lerman, but as you’ll see, Mikkelsen looks pretty awesome.
We first heard about the movie last September when it was announced that Anderson would be directing his own 3D adaptation of the classic Alexandre Dumas story.
Be sure to continue on and check out some of the first images of the new Three Musketeers now!
Word of the movie wasn’t the best news to hear given Anderson’s reputation, but when a massive casting announcement informed us that Mikkelsen, Lerman, Milla Jovovich, Christoph Waltz, Ray Stevenson, Matthew Macfadyen, and Luke Evans were joining the film, interest raised a bit. Add to that the confirmation of Orlando Bloom a little later and we may just have a fun movie here. [...]
