The Losers
DVD | Blu-ray
Directed by Sylvain White
Starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Zoe Saldana, Columbus Short, Chris Evans, Idris Elba, Oscar Jaenada, Jason Patric
Warner Bros Home Video
Release date: July 20, 2010
The Losers, based on a DC comic, isn’t merely hell-bent on expressing violence like recent comic book adaptations (Jonah Hex). There is a method behind its outrageous madness. Externally The Losers and violence are mutually inseparable, finding pleasure in things that go BOOM, but internally is where it separates itself from the Jonah Hexes out there and undergoes an operation that is primarily inspired by one emotion: revenge. This intense sense of emotion is precisely what the picture needs because it has an actor in Jeffrey Dean Morgan who can construct a character who is riddled with guilt to perfection. We have seen him do it before in Watchmen, a film in some instances The Losers represents.
The similarities that can be found in both films have to do with the idea of abandonment and betrayal. Extending beyond violence, director Sylvain White finds a potent force that can withstand the over excessive amount of violence the picture contains. That force deals with humane elements. In Watchmen the heroes are depressed due to authorities and citizens questioning their true colors. The heroes are then wounded by the abandonment of such people. In The Losers a group of five highly trained Special Ops workmen led by Clay (Morgan) are stained with the same kind of abandonment [...]

Disney Acquires Rights To ‘Tron: Legacy’ Director Joseph Kosinski’s ‘Oblivion’ Movie
Walt Disney has announced that they have acquired the rights to the film adaptation of Oblivion, the upcoming graphic novel being released by Radical Publishing. The title was created by Joseph Kosinski, written by Arvid Nelson, and illustrated by Andrée Wallin.
The deal comes as no big surprise; Kosinski is the director of Disney’s Tron: Legacy, and the existing relationship made plenty of sense for this new project. Along with the acquisition of of the property, Disney will also have Kosinski directing and producing this film for them as well.
Oblivion takes place in the future where radiation has destroyed the Earth’s surface, forcing any remaining human beings to live at high altitudes above the clouds as vicious alien creatures scavenge the wastelands below. Very First Superman Comic Book Saves Family From Losing Their House
Well if anyone said that a comic book wasn’t good for anything else but reading, they were wrong. A family whose house was being foreclosed found an issue of Action Comics #1 in a box as they were packing up their things. Everyone knows that Action Comics #1 is the ‘holy grail’ of comic books. This was the book that first introduced the world to Superman and its cover is very significant and will be known and recognized forever.
The house had been in the family since the 1950s when the issue was put in the box by the wife’s father. They contacted Stephen Fishler who co-owns Comic Connect and Metropolis Collectibles in New York City. Fishler was hesitant at first because a lot of people that come to him with Action Comics #1 usually have reprints that have no real selling value. But the family was smart and sent a picture message to him and he realized that this issue in fact was the real thing. [...]

Watch Now: Red Band Trailer For ‘The Exorcist’ Blu-ray Package
 |
Posted by Dave3 | August 5th, 2010 at 11:13 am |
Moments after my editor asked me to write this article about The Exorcist coming to Blu-ray I had a three-paragraph nostalgia trip spill out of my brain. It was a little too deep to waste on a release notice like this, so I’ve decided to bank that story for the time being and unleash it on you all when I actually get my geeky mitts on the Blu-ray for review.
Let’s just agree that I can’t hardly wait for that moment. Anyhoo, this upcoming 2-Disc Digibook Blu-ray package, to be released on October 5, 2010, will contain both the original 1973 theatrical release and the Y2K Director’s cut re-release, along with two feature-length documentaries, commentary tracks by both director William Friedkin and writer/producer William Peter Blatty, interviews, storyboards, and a bunch of featurette-level material and trailers.
I wanted a copy before all that jazz, so I’m already a happy camper. Check out the Red-band trailer for the Blu-ray release and a full rundown of features here after the jump [...]

Comic Review: Ryder On The Storm
Ryder On The Storm #1
Written By: David Hine
Art By: Wayne Nichols
Cover Art: Francesco “Matt” Mattina
Price: $1.00
Publisher: Radical Publishing
Release date: July 27, 2010
When it comes to comics, I am a huge fan of non-superhero books, I love comics that have normal characters in them. Ryder On The Storm is one of these books that grabbed my attention at the beginning and never let go until the sudden ending.
The book starts off with a woman in a towel walking through a trashed apartment to a telephone with a whining noise in the background. She calls Ryder, a private detective with his own agency, Ryder Investigations. While she is on the phone the panels cut to a shot where we see a lot of blood and then we see a man’s body covered in blood with holes in his head, in his hand’s he’s holding a power drill and there’s pills right by him [...]

Director Stephen Sommers To Return For ‘G.I. Joe 2′
G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra obviously isn’t the best movie ever made, but a surprising amount of people ended up having a lot of fun with it, and the movie went on to pull in over $300 million worldwide at the box office.
After showing off numbers like that, a sequel was all but guaranteed and has been under development at Paramount Pictures. No movie can move forward without a director, of course, and it would appear that this sequel now has one. The Wrap has it on good authority that Stephen Sommers — director of the first movie — is set to return once again for G.I. Joe 2.
It’s been a while since the sequel was announced, but it was unclear up until now whether the director would return for the job. Sommers is also known for directing fellow summer action/adventure blockbusters like The Mummy, The Mummy Returns (he wrote Tomb of the Dragon Emperor), and Van Helsing. [...]

Did A ‘Scrooge McDuck’ Comic Dream Up ‘Inception’ First?
 |
Posted by Vactor | August 4th, 2010 at 8:38 am |
Those crazy ducks over in Duckburg are at it again guys. This time they’re using ideas seen in Christopher Nolan’s Inception and putting them into their comics!
The panel seen here at right is from a 2002 The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck comic book from a story called “The Dream of a Lifetime,” where The Beagle Boys use a special machine to enter Scrooge’s dream in an effort to extract information so they can steal his money.
You eagle-eyed viewers might say that this comic is before Inception was released, but Christopher Nolan actually had thought about these ideas on and off since he was sixteen years old and first pitched the idea to Warner Bros. in 2001 [...]

So did Inception‘s ending really frustrate you? Do you just have to know what it meant? Well then you are in luck, because there has been some recent developments in that very area.
While Christopher Nolan and the cast will not tell you what the ending means, that doesn’t mean the costume designer has to keep tight-lipped.
SPOILERS for the end of Inception coming your way.
The film’s ending has been up for debate: Is Leonardo DiCaprio‘s character, Cobb, awake or still dreaming at the end of the movie?
Clothes on Film interviewed the film’s costume designer, Jeffrey Kurland, who ended up giving up a significant detail about the scene in which Cobb is reunited with this children [...]

Watch Now: Comic Con Teaser Trailer For Guillermo Del Toro’s ‘Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark’
At the recent San Diego Comic Con, a teaser trailer and footage from Guillermo del Toro‘s Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark made a huge impact on the crowd (Read: SDCC 2010: ‘Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark’ Panel With Guillermo del Toro). It also helped that del Toro, who wrote and produced the film, was being as hilarious as we’ve seen him, but truly this is something people will be excited to see.
The movie is a remake of the 1973 horror title of the same name. It will tell the story of a girl who goes to live with her father and his girlfriend in a large old house. Before long, they discover that an evil resides within the house, and it wants the young girl to itself.
Now you can get a small peek at what was shown at Comic Con with the release of the movie’s official teaser trailer. As described in the panel recap, it’s a brief video that has some voice over and shows a little girl attempting to hide from something under her bed covers.

James Newton Howard To Replace Danny Elfman As ‘Green Hornet’ Composer
For a while now, Danny Elfman has been attached to compose the musical score for Michel Gondry‘s upcoming crime fighting action-comedy The Green Hornet, but it looks like a last-minute change is unfolding.
The Playlist is reporting that they’re sources are saying that Elfman is now out due to simply having too many other projects on his plate. They’re also hearing that the man currently in talks to replace him is James Newton Howard, who also happens to be handling the score for Green Lantern as well. Fancy that.
Newton Howard has been around for decades, creating the scores for movies like Pretty Woman, Glengarry Glen Ross, and The Fugitive. Dating back to 1985, he has accumulated 121 Composer credits for movies of all genres. For many (myself included) it was his work on most of M. Night Shyamalan’s earlier films where he really made his presence known, and even you hate The Village it’s hard not to love Newton Howard’s score. Other memorable more recent works include Collateral, Peter Jackson’s King Kong, and The Dark Knight along with Hans Zimmer. [...]

Krona To Appear In ‘Green Lantern’ Movie
We learned at the Green Lantern panel at the San Diego Comic-Con last month that every Green Lantern Corps member would be shown on the planet Oa in Green Lantern. But what Oan citizens will show up in the upcoming Warners Bros big-screen adaptation?
According to Comic Book Movie, the character of Krona will make an appearance in Green Lantern, which stars Ryan Reynolds in the title role.
Krona will be involved in a scene that features another character from Green Lantern lore named Parallax (the panel also yielded the news that Parallax would be in the film). The scene is reportedly Earth-based, but what Krona’s involvement with Parallax is is unknown at this time [...]

Matthew Vaughn Cuts 12 Pages Of ‘X-Men: First Class’ After Seeing ‘Inception’
The LA Times had the chance to speak to Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn recently, who shared an interesting story about a recent movie-going experience.
Vaughn has been working away on his next film — an adaptation of the Marvel comic book series X-Men: First Class — and decided to go out and take a peek at Christopher Nolan’s Inception. What seemed like a normal night at the movies actually turned into a tricky situation; Vaughn realized that some aspects of his movie were going to be very similar to things he saw in Inception. Most would probably just ignore this, but Vaughn is clearly determined to make something unique and thus, decided to remove these parts of his movie.
I saw ‘Inception,’ which I loved. But my heart sank when I saw that a few of the ideas we had were up [on the screen]. So it’s either leave it in and look as if you’re copying or change things. We completely ripped out about 12 pages of the script and the storyboards. [...]

Geek Peek: First Glimpse At Nick Frost & Simon Pegg’s Alien Friend ‘Paul’
There’s been a heavy dose of excitement behind Greg Mottola‘s geek-friendly road trip comedy Paul for a long while. The movie re-pairs one of the best acting teams in movies today, Nick Frost and Simon Pegg, as a couple of quintessential fanboys named Clive and Graeme who meet an incredible acquaintance after attending the yearly San Diego Comic Con gathering (which just recently ended last weekend; read all of our coverage here!).
After their visit to Comic Con, the British duo also decide to see some other sights while in the area. One of their stops includes the mysterious Area 51, where they happen to bump into an extraterrestrial named Paul (voiced by Seth Rogen). The thing with Paul is that he isn’t like most aliens we’ve seen in movies and TV shows over the years, and actually has quite the vulgar tongue (or whatever anatomy aliens possess).
One thing those who have been so excited for was what Paul the alien would actually look like, and Bleeding Cool has your first glimpse. Click on over to the other side to check him out for yourself! [...]
