‘Firefly’ Star Nathan Fillion Wants To Play Nathan Drake In ‘Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune’ Movie

The Movie God   |

You just have to love when things play out like this.

Earlier this month, it was reported that David O. Russell would be writing and directing the latest attempt to adapt Sony Computer Entertainment and Naughty Dog video game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune into a movie. This was exciting news for fans of the game who see how much potential there is for a great movie franchise, but who could play Nathan Drake?

As is, Drake is already a well-rounded and likable character, and all that’s needed is an actor who would be best fitted to bring him to life. At the end of our initial story, I made it pretty clear that they should just cast Firefly and Castle star Nathan Fillion immediately. This was all wishful thinking and came with little expectations of Fillion becoming a possibility, but apparently I am not alone in seeing how ridiculously perfect the actor is for the part.

In a recent message on Twitter, Fillion said “If ever there was a Twitter campaign, let this be it. Rise, ye Browncoats. Rise, ye Castillions. RISE!” His words were accompanied by a link to the Drake’s Fortune story, making it perfectly clear who he thinks should get the part.

As far as fans are concerned, there is no thought to this. In many ways, Nathan Fillion IS Nathan Drake, and he would breathe so much life into that character and that movie that it would be an undeniably perfect casting.

But will Sony Pictures and the team behind making this decision see and hear the pleas of geekdom everywhere? This is where you come in!

If anyone working on the Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune project for Sony is reading, make this a reality! It shouldn’t take you long to realize how good of a match it is, and you wouldn’t even need to do an audition. Efficient!

For everyone else who needs this to happen, make your voices heard. Scream loud and often wherever you can to try and catch the attention of anyone who can make it happen. The louder the demand, the more likely the studio will take a good look at Mr. Fillion.

Check out this video of Nathan Drake one-liners, and then just imagine Fillion saying them. It’ll all make perfect sense.

Clip has some funny lines, but like many Youtube montage videos: background music is either horrible rock music or turned up way too loud. In this case, definitely the latter. It’s a comedy clip, there is no need for that music.

As for the news, never played the game, but Fillion is a perfect choice. Unfortunately, it is a video game based movie. /cursed

Firefly is the single greatest thing ever created in the history of mankind and to have Fillion play Drake would make this the second greatest thing! Just watch Firefly, Fillion IS Drake!

It should also be pointed out that the developer of Uncharted, Naughty Dog, has made it very clear in various interviews that Nathan Fillion’s looks and mannerisms were very much the basis for Nathan Drake’s character.

So I’m sure there is a large contingent at Naughty Dog that would also like to see Fillion get the role.

    It’s almost like a self-fulfilling prophecy.

@Slipstream Yes, it’s definitely not the best video, but there weren’t many with good Drake one-liners. Music’s too loud but boy do I love that score.

@Ahren Have they? I’ve never heard that. Perfect!

We want Nathan Fillion to be cast as Nathan Drake! Yes! NATHAN FILLION is the BEST choice to play Nathan Drake! He’s got action hero written all over him, with the biceps to prove it. He’s extremely bright, clever, funny, sexy, young, hot, and devilishly handsome. And he wants this role as much as we want it for him! It’s his turn to be the next powerful leading man on the big screen. He has single-handedly transformed the term “geek” into “sexgod.” He’s an up-and-coming A-List movie star with muscle and heat and he’s a-comin’ to take over feature films! I feel it! Grab him while you can for the Uncharted franchise. Because he’ll also make the best Indiana Jones when they re-boot those movies!! In his campaign to be Nathan Drake, we Browncoats and Castillions firmly support our Captain Nathan Fillion!

Upon watching a series of videos on Youtube that someone had recently posted as part of a walk-through for “Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune” the only I could say was, “Nathan Drake = Nathan Fillion, the gotta get him to play this character in the movie version.” And I’m very glad to read on your website that this scenario might possibly come true.

I love Nathan Fillion but I feel like he might look a little old to play Nathan Drake. Then again you probably won’t find an actor more suited to play the character and more Nathan Fillion is always a good thing.
