One of the most famous — if not THE most famous — voice actors on the planet, James Earl Jones, was a guest on the Live! With Regis and Kelly show recently.
The actor talks about how he got started in the business, and about his new gig playing the Morgan Freeman role in a stage adaptation of Driving Miss Daisy with Vanessa Redgrave, but also talks about his work as the iconic voice of Darth Vader in the Star Wars trilogy.
Earl Jones touches on how they decided that the man in the suit, David Prowse, didn’t have quite the voice they were looking for, and how at first they were looking at Orson Welles for the job, but ultimately decided that he was just a bit too recognizable. Enter an offer to Earl Jones to do it, and it’s all history from there. He also talks about how chose not to be credited because he felt he didn’t need to be, and how he chose not to take the “points” that eventually made others involved in the movies millionaires thanks to residual payments. He was broke at the time, so he took just $7,000, went and bought groceries, and that was that.
Be sure to click on over to the dark side to see James Earl Jones talking Vader on Regis and Kelly, especially to see him tell Regis that he is his father.
Do you even know who James Earl Jones is? How about you look him up on IMDB and educate yourself on why they’d call him the most famous.
How many VAs can YOU name?

Wow, DeathAxe.
“THIS is CNN.” He has maybe the most recognizable voice in Hollywood. And yes…Darth Vader has a lot to do with it, despite whether Star Wars gets “more credit than it deserves” or not.
DeathAxe, dude, you’re commenting on a site named “Geeks of Doom” – seriously, who else but fanboys are gonna be here?
What, did your supermodel girlfriend decide she wanted to have some time apart and you decided to grace us fanboys with your witty commentary?

Sorry @DeathAxe…
I didn’t mean to have a fanboy gushing session and insult your almighty opinion.
To be honest, I’m personally not even all that big of a Star Wars fanboy. I like the movies, but you won’t find them topping any of my favorites lists. Maybe I’m just the ultimate fan of The Lion King? Who knows!
Not a bad idea to know what’s being said before assuming it’s specifically aimed toward one thing. You may not agree, you may not like Star Wars, but do you really need to stand on a pedestal like a jackass?
This dude’s voice is recognized all over the world, and that’s what makes him famous — not just because he did Star Wars.
By all means, share who YOU think is the top voice talent out there. There’s a ton of great ones, but very few you name will be more recognizable than James Earl Jones. Maybe Morgan Freeman, but c’mon now…saying silly things in hopes of a getting a little attention is a bit sad.
