Jason Bourne Finds New Director In Tony Gilroy; May Be Called ‘The Bourne Legacy’

The Movie God   |

Last December it was reported that director Paul Greengrass would be walking away from the fourth installment in The Bourne Identity franchise. Greengrass captained the second and third movies (Doug Liman directed the original), and was popular with star Matt Damon, who at one time said he wouldn’t come back if the director wasn’t involved.

Despite the exit of Greengrass, Universal has maintained plans for another installment in the series — now tentatively titled The Bourne Legacy — and now they’ve found the director they want to deliver it. And who better then the man who has personally written the screenplays for all three previous films, Tony Gilroy. The writer was hired a while back to pen the script, which was an obvious choice of course, and it only makes sense to have him embrace the role of director as well.

The studio could have gone out to some other big action-minded talent to come in, but they’ve smartly chosen to utilize someone already involved in the movie who has more knowledge of what goes into Jason Bourne than most others do. [...]

You’ve Seen The Teaser, Now Watch The Full ‘True Grit’ Trailer!

The Movie God   |

A teaser trailer for the Joel Coen and Ethan Coen‘s new adaptation of the classic novel, True Grit, was released last week. It was a great teaser, showing off brilliant old west cinematography, but not too much dialogue. No time is being wasted in keeping the buzz going, and now the full trailer for the movie is online. This time around you’ll get quite a bit of dialogue, a lot of great new shots, and maybe a little Johnny Cash…if you’re good.

The movie tells the story of young Mattie Ross (Hailee Steinfeld), a girl whose father is murdered, leading her on a mission to find the man who killed him, Tom Chaney (Josh Brolin), and get her revenge. She sets off to find the perfect man to help her on her quest, and meets Rooster Cogburn (Jeff Bridges), an old drunk with a knack for getting these types of things done. Also looking for Chaney is a Ranger named LeBoeuf (Matt Damon), who wants to bring him back to Texas for another murder. [...]

CONFIRMED: Starz To Recast Andy Whitfield In ‘Spartacus: Blood And Sand’

The Movie God   |

Last week it was revealed that Starz was in the midst of making a very difficult decision regarding their hit show Spartacus: Blood and Sand. Their star, Andy Whitfield, has been battling non-Hodgkins lymphoma in an attempt to return for a second season of the show, but a recent setback has his doctors recommending another round of aggressive treatments. This forced the network to look at their tough options: delay longer, recast Whitfield, or cancel the show altogether.

It appears that Starz has made their decision, and though it seemed to be the most likely choice, it will take a while for fans to accept it. An official casting call has been sent out, looking for that all-important actor to fill the massive sandals that Whitfield created in the great first season. The notice details that they’re looking for someone in their mid to late 30s who can speak in an authentic British accent, can effectively portray the “smart, intense, and passionate” title role, and who’s able to sign a three-year contract. Zack Snyder Directing New ‘Superman’ Film; General Zod To Be The Villain

Tom Cheredar   |

Superman

After successfully translating comic books like 300 and Watchmen to film, Zack Snyder has been tapped to direct the next Superman movie, reports Deadline.

Also, The Hollywood Reporter reports that General Zod will be the villain in the new film.

Warner Bros. was certainly serious about taking the right approach to their premier super-hero franchise — getting David Goyer (Batman Begins, Blade) to write the screenplay and luring Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight, Inception) in to oversee the project [Read: Christopher Nolan To Godfather ‘Superman’ Movie; ‘Dark Knight’ Sequel Being Written]. But now, it seems like the Superman movie we’ve always dreamed of seeing is actually going to happen.

“It’s early yet, but I can tell you that what David and Chris have done with the story so far definitely has given me a great insight into a way to make him feel modern. I’ve always felt he was kind of awesome. I’ll finish Sucker Punch and get right at it,” Snyder told Deadline [...]

Survival Tips For The Coming Zombie Apocalypse

Obvious Zombie   |

Raccoons and gophers and rabbit. Oh My! See… this is how it always starts. Very small. First with the cute and cuddly little animals rising from the beyond and attacking the unsuspecting. Then, me and my flock of festering freaks roll up in your hood and make a meal out of your friends and family.

I know it’s silly. You know it’s silly. But for some reason you’all living folk keep thinking that when me and my rotting gang of go-getters decide it’s time to rise up and make our ‘big’ move, that locking your doors & watching reruns of Good Times until we all zombie-types starve to uh…death (yeah, not gonna happen) is gonna cut the mustard. Well, lemme tell you. It ain’t.

Now, I don’t have a date or nothin’ like that though. But we zombies are coming. Some of us aren’t the brightest potatoes in the shed, and well, we may not be so very well organized… but don’t let that lull you into a false sense of security. Not that it’ll matter, but y’all need to be prepared. And since I have a soft spot in my skull for you geeks, I decided to allow this handy little list of tips and tricks to avoiding immediate death to be compiled.

Who knows? It might even keep you alive long enough for good old Obvious Zombie (that’s me!) to make it ’round your way and say hello… before I chow down on some of that sweet meat you hide between your ears [...]

Contest: Guillermo Del Toro’s ‘The Fall’ [Book Two of the Strain Trilogy]

The Geeks of Doom   |

The Fall: Book Two of the Strain Trilogy by Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck HoganThe Fall, which is Book Two of the Strain Trilogy by Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan, was released last month and we here at Geeks of Doom have a hardcover copy of the book to give away to one lucky reader!

One (1) winner will receive:

– One (1) hardcover copy of The Fall: Book Two of the Strain Trilogy

New York is in chaos. Fires burn uncontested on deserted streets and avenues. Looters have their way with abandoned shops. Desperately overextended and underinformed emergency response teams are all that remain of the city’s shattered infrastructure. Masses of panicked citizens clog the highways and train stations, frantic for any means of escape. And what they don’t know is that they are fleeing a fate much worse than death.

The scene is thus set for THE FALL (on sale September 21, 2010), Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan’s knuckle-bleaching second volume in The Strain Trilogy. The prior entry in the series, THE STRAIN, was an instant global bestseller lauded by Nelson DeMille as “Bram Stoker meets Stephen King meets Michael Crichton”. At its conclusion, the omnipotent vampire Master unleashed a plague of bloodlust on the world, crippling major cities and leaving little hope for humanity.

It falls to a small but resolute band of survivors to prevent the Master’s plan from succeeding. […]

Warner Brothers Now Developing ‘Wonder Woman’ As A TV Series

The Movie God   |

A movie version of Wonder Woman has been talked about for years with many names rumored to be possible stars and scripts written by people like Joss Whedon, but for one reason or another, it never found a way to work out.

Now Warner Brothers is trying something else in hopes of making some magic out of this property. The studio’s television department is now developing a modernized version of the character for the small screen. They’re also reaching out to none other than David E. Kelley as a possible writer and producer of the show if things work out this time around.

Kelley has worked as a writer and producer on some of the biggest television series ever made. His double-duty credits include Doogie Howser, M.D., L.A. Law, Picket Fences, Chicago Hope, Ally McBeal, Boston Public, The Practice, and Boston Legal. He’s also done film work, writing and producing Lake Placid, To Gillian on Her 37th Birthday, and Mystery, Alaska. [...]

Movie Review: Let Me In

seaberry   |

Let Me In

Let Me In
Directed by Matt Reeves
Starring Kodi Smit-McPhee, Chloe Moretz, Richard Jenkins, Elias Koteas
Rated R
Release date: October 1, 2010

Let Me In is an American remake of the Swedish film Let the Right One In. Owen, portrayed by Kodi Smit-McPhee, lives with his mom in an apartment complex. Owen’s parents are divorced and he is constantly bullied at school. Things begin to change when Owen meets and befriends Abby (Chloe Moretz, a girl who moves into his apartment complex. Abby behaves a little strangely, but their friendship continues to grow. Eventually, Owen learns that Abby is a vampire and has to feed on human blood to survive.

Kodi Smit-McPhee is very believable as the pitifully frail Owen. It is hard not to feel sympathy with him when he is verbally and physically abused by a gang of bullies led by Kenny. Kenny is portrayed by Dylan Minnette as an evil, callous child. Chloe Moretz follows up her excellent portrayal of Hit-Girl in Kick-Ass with another strong performance as the eternal vampire girl Abby. Smit-McPhee and Moretz play their roles perfectly and their puppy-love relationship seems very plausible. [...]

Watch Now: ‘Saturday Night Live’ Season 36 Premiere

Empress Eve   |

SNL

Season 36 of Saturday Night Live premiered this past Saturday night, with host Amy Poehler, the former SNL castmember now starring on the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation.

The entire show is online at NBC.com, but I picked a few of my favorite sketches and embedded the videos here below.

One of the clips is Poehler’s monologue, which has a bunch of cool cameos. There’s also “Bronx Beat,” which apparently I’m in, according to my friend and GoD contributor Justin Vactor, who basically thinks any woman with a New York accent is me. And that’s fine, because Mr. Vactor was on this episode of SNL too — check out the “Will Smith” clip!

If you’re a fan of Katy Perry, who was the musical guest for the season premiere, then definitely check out “Bronx Beat,” as she makes an appearance.

For tonight’s episode, Bryan Cranston, star of Breaking Bad (he was also the dad on Malcolm in the Middle), hosts the show with musical guest Kanye West. [...]

‘The Hobbit’ To Finally Get Greenlight? Fire Damages Peter Jackson’s New Zealand Set

The Movie God   |

Some potentially good news in regards to Peter Jackson‘s constantly complicated endeavor to adapt J.R.R. Tolkien‘s original tale of The Hobbit into a two-part feature film. The good news is also followed by a bit of bad news, naturally.

There’s been endless news and discussions when it comes to The Hobbit, and it’s felt like the movie has been coming for a decade now. The truth is that the movie itself never even got the greenlight from studios, though it was universally expected to be happening one way or another — the greenlight was just a formal detail. Then came the departure of director Guillermo del Toro and all of the financial woes of MGM, who were set to go dutch with Warner Brothers and New Line Cinema on the project, bringing to surface the very real chance that this movie simply would never happen.

Now, according to several sources close to the many parties involved, an official greenlight on the project could come in the next few days with Peter Jackson still set to direct. [...]

Game Review: HAWX 2

The Movie God   |

Hawx 2
PLATFORM: PS3
DEVELOPER: Ubisoft
PUBLISHER: Ubisoft
RELEASE DATE: September 7, 2010

The new installment in the Tom Clancy jet fighter series, Hawx 2 looks to take aerial combat to the next level.

The new game allows you to jump into the cockpit of high-powered flying machine, prepped and ready for warfare. United States, United Kingdom, Russia — you’ll play as them all, facing many different missions as you deal with a major threat and a missing Russian nuclear weapons.

Hawx 2 is one of those games you have to be into to enjoy. The game isn’t really about the story, but flying these military aircrafts and fighting your way out of some pretty intense aerial battles. It would be hard for someone not interested in things such as this to enjoy themselves, but if you were ever a kid playing with your toy planes and pretending to be a top fighter pilot, this is a game that you could find yourself having a lot of fun with. Full ‘Skyline’ Trailer Offers Better Look At Alien Arrival

The Movie God   |

Not too long ago, a trailer for the alien invasion movie that seemed to show up out of nowhere, Skyline, was released online but didn’t show too much. Now a full trailer has been released, giving us a much better look at the movie.

Skyline tells the story of some strange, almost hypnotic blue lights descending upon Los Angeles from the sky. As multitudes of people flood the streets to feed their curiosity and get a good look at the phenomenon, it’s soon realized that the lights are actually extraterrestrials visiting our planet, and they are not here to make friends.

The most intriguing thing about the movie so far is the budget. This is a movie that has the look of a big-budget summer blockbuster but is said to have a very small price tag (directed by brothers and special effects whizzes Colin Strause and Greg Strause) as far as movies these days go.

Bryan Fuller Developing Reboot Of ‘The Munsters’ For NBC

The Movie God   |

It’s being reported that another classic TV series is well on its way to getting a big reboot.

According to sources, NBC has made an order for a pilot episode of The Munsters, based on the popular television series of the ’60s starring Fred Gwynne, Al Lewis, and Yvonne De Carlo. The brand new reboot is currently being developed and worked on by TV veteran Bryan Fuller.

Fuller has an impressive resume, working as both a writer and producer on titles like Star Trek: Voyager, Wonderfalls, Dead Like Me, Pushing Daisies, and Heroes.

The Munsters combined two of the most popular genres of that time: blue collar American family sitcoms and monster movies. It featured Herman Munster (Gwynne) as a much more lighthearted take on the Frankenstein monster, his wife Lily (De Carlo) and her father Grandpa (Lewis), who were both vampires, and their children Eddie (Butch Patrick) as a werewolf and Marilyn (Pat Priest).
