‘Inception’ Coming To Blu-ray & DVD This December

Inception, this summer’s “mind-blowing” blockbuster film, will be released on Blu-ray, DVD, and On Demand through Warner Home Video on December 7, 2010.
The Blu-ray Combo Pack (Blu-ray disc, DVD, and Digital Copy) will contain will over 90 minutes of bonus material featuring writer/director Christopher Nolan and star Leonardo DiCaprio, and have a suggested retail price of $35.99. The widescreen DVD will apparently has “mind-bending featurettes” and has a suggested retail price of $29.99.
You can pre-order both formats right now at Amazon and lock in their discounted price: Blu-ray Combo Pack ($24.99) or DVD ($20.49).
Warner Bros hasn’t released the full list of bonus content at this time, but their solicitation beckons, “Go inside the dream with extraction mode,” which I’m guessing is some sort of Blu-ray-only feature that allows you to press a button during playback that will give you facts and other details, perhaps in a picture-in-picture format. Maybe, just maybe, some of our unanswered questions regarding the film will be answered with this feature! [...]

CONFIRMED: Rhys Ifans Will Be The Lizard In ‘Spider-Man’ Reboot

A few days ago we were informed that the fantastic Rhys Ifans would be playing the villain in Marc Webb‘s new reboot of Spider-Man for Sony and Columbia Pictures. The problem was that they wouldn’t say who exactly Ifans would be playing in the movie.
This matched with the news earlier today that Tom Hardy would be in Batman 3, but that his part was also unknown, had us a little fearful that an aggravating Hollywood habit may be forming. But alas, not but a few days later, it has been unearthed just who Ifans will become before he battles Spider-Man to the death, and that, my friends, is The Lizard.
Ifans will play Dr. Curt Conners, a character played by Dylan Baker in Sam Raimi’s films, which fans had been demanding be utilized by bringing Lizard in as a villain in the movies. Curt Conners lost his arm in war, after enlisting and becoming a battlefield surgeon. After that, he researched limb regeneration common in certain reptiles, and after a successful test on a rabbit, tried the procedure on himself. [...]

Remastered ‘Sandman’ Volumes 1-3 Available Now; ‘Annotated Sandman’ On The Way

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve written of my love for Neil Gaiman‘s work, especially his Sandman comic book series, which is why I’m excited that today the first three special edition volumes of Sandman were released. And if that wasn’t awesome enough, there’s also news that an annotated Sandman is also in the works!
The new trade paperback special editions feature recolored artwork — the same treatment given to the Absolute Editions — as well as new covers and other upgrades from their original publication, which began in 1989.
The remaining volumes of the series, which are published by DC’s Vertigo imprint, will have the same remastering treatment in the future, but no dates for those have been announced.
If you already own the entire series, you might be wondering if the new editions with recolored artwork are worth the cost of a repurchase. If you check out Vertigo’s blog, you can see a few comparison samples between the original and recolored art. Also, below is an excerpt from Gaiman’s blog from 2006 in response to a fan questioning the recoloring on the Absolute Editions [...]

Sweets #1 & 2
Story & Art By: Kody Chamberlain
Cover Art: Kody Chamberlain
Price: $2.99
Image Comics
Release date: July 14, 2010 & August 18, 2010
Sweets is a five-issue miniseries written and drawn by Kody Chamberlain. The miniseries is a crime tale set in New Orleans just days before Hurricane Katrina makes landfall. A serial killer is on the loose and has piled up a massive amount of victims in a killing spree around New Orleans. Detective Curt Delatte has already had a bad few weeks. His daughter was killed in a hit and run. His wife wants a divorce and now he must search for this ruthless serial killer.
Sweets is a definite must-read if you’re into crime stories like Criminal and Scalped. The biggest difference between those books and Sweets, is that Chamberlain brings a rare blend of storytelling to the readers. Sweets reads like a crime film, in which the reader is glued to the book and they never want it to end [...]

‘Inception’ Star Tom Hardy Re-Teaming With Christopher Nolan On ‘Batman 3′

Fans have waited patiently as director Christopher Nolan took his break from Batman after The Dark Knight and made a little movie called Inception. The director did the same thing after Batman Begins with The Prestige, and this is just the way of Nolan’s world.
But now that Inception has indeed come and gone, everyone is getting pretty anxious for things to get going on the next chapter in the DC Comic superhero’s dark new story, currently just being referred to as Batman 3. And today it would appear that our first casting has occurred.
It’s being reported that Tom Hardy has been cast by Nolan for a major role in the next Batman. Unfortunately for us, it hasn’t been revealed what exactly this role will be, or even if it’s a villain or not. This is already starting to become an unpleasant new Hollywood habit, as we just saw with the casting Kevin Bacon as an unknown villain in X-Men: First Class and with Rhys Ifans as an unidentified villain in Spider-Man. Before we know it, every big casting will come with massive questions of who they’re playing in the movie they’ve been cast in. [...]

Must See: Michael J. Fox Goes ‘Back To The Future’ In Marty McFly Reunion

It’s been twenty years since the third and final Back to the Future movie was released, but the popularity of this classic trilogy seems just as high right now as it’s ever been before…perhaps even higher!
Putting the length of time that has passed since the last film was released aside, Back to the Future has continued to show up every now and again over the years. We’ve seen the creation of things we saw in the movies like the hoverboard, word of the big Blu-ray trilogy being released later this month, the announcement of a new game featuring Christopher Lloyd as Doc Brown, and even the footage of Eric Stoltz playing Marty McFly just yesterday.
But if there’s one thing people would really just love to see, it would have to be Mr. Michael J. Fox, back in full McFly attire, and reuniting with his Delorean, right? Well, now we can. Continue on to the bottom of this post to see a video of just that! [...]

Album Review: Adam WarRock ‘The War For Infinity’
 |
Posted by seaberry | October 13th, 2010 at 10:34 am |

Adam WarRock
The War For Infinity
Silver Age Records & Marketless Music
Release Date: October 7, 2010
Eugene Ahn, comic book fan and podcast host, has created a hip-hop alter ego named Adam WarRock. On WarRock’s debut album, The War For Infinity, listeners are treated to an “event” comic book story in musical form.
On the first track, “I Am Him,” we are learn the origin story of Adam WarRock. Adam WarRock created a perfect society with his mic, but is shunned by the very people that he was seeking to save. He creates a gauntlet that stores his power and ascends into the clouds and sleeps until he is needed again. That day inevitably arrives, and Adam WarRock awakes again.
WarRock’s saga continues throughout the course of the album, and eventually he meets Demonos on the track “Battle (Intro)”. Demonos and WarRock meet in an arena, complete with cheesy announcer. WarRock also informs Demonos of his power with lines like “Ya’ll must be crazy, thinking you can mess with Adam, man/Thinking I’m a goody two shoes like my name was Adam Ant.” The lyrical and heroic battle continues over the course of the album, especially on the track “Heroes Requiem,” where Demonos vanquishes several well-known super heroes. WarRock and Demonos have their final showdown on the song “Battle (Finale)” and it is an epic contest [...]

Movie Review: Nowhere Boy
 |
Posted by Obi-Dan | October 12th, 2010 at 10:19 pm |

Nowhere Boy
Directed by: Sam Taylor-Wood
Starring: Aaron Johnson, Kristin Scott Thomas, Anne-Marie Duff, Thomas Brodie Sangster, Sam Bell
PID
Release Date: October 10, 2010
There is the old argument between music fans – are you a Beatle or a Rolling Stone? Whether you like your rock n’ roll heavier or with a bit of a pop you simply can not discount the influence of The Beatles on modern music. Nowhere Boy is the story of one of the band’s chief song-writers, John Lennon. In his relatively short life he clocked up more number one singles and platinum selling albums than any other non-Beatle Englishman. He was, rightly, a legend in his own lifetime. What a story to tell.
Specifically, Nowhere Boy concentrates on a teenage Lennon (Aaron Johnson) growing up in Liverpool in the 1950s. His mother introduced him to rock and roll music and Elvis. With her help he learned to play the banjo and then guitar, all with the purpose of starting his own band. Shortly after forming The Quarrymen he was introduced to two other teenagers who would help him change the world: Paul McCartney (Thomas Brodie Sangster) and George Harrison (Sam Bell). Music would never be the same. [...]

Movie Review: Machete

Machete
Directed by: Robert Rodriguez
Starring: Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Jessica Alba, Robert De Niro, Steven Seagal, Jeff Fahey, Cheech Marin, Don Johnson, Lindsay Lohan
20th Century Fox
Release Date: September 3, 2010
Keep your cheesy horror flicks and interchangeable kiddy crap. I’m wrapping up my movie going summer basking in the glory of the mightiness of Machete, a movie that by all accounts should not even exist. It started out as an idea for a movie Robert Rodriguez intended to build around the unique talent and looks of his frequent collaborator Danny Trejo, a reformed ex-con who got into acting in 1985 with a small part in the underrated action classic Runaway Train with Jon Voight and Eric Roberts. Trejo is a guy who has lived more lives than cats typically are born with and has always survived to tell the tale, usually on his face. He’s also got that awesome chest tattoo of a rather sexy woman that always seems to make its way into Trejo’s movies. Even if he’s in a scene that doesn’t require him to bare his chest somehow, someway, that tat is making a cameo appearance. Trejo has appeared in most of Robert Rodriguez’s films since 1995’s Desperado, a quasi-remake/sequel to the director’s ultra low-budget 1992 debut El Mariachi. [...]

The Greatest TV Shows Ever: ‘Band of Brothers’
 |
Posted by Obi-Dan | October 12th, 2010 at 2:23 pm |

along with bonus disc The Pacific Part One is on sale today til midnight PST for 63% off with the Blu-ray for $36.99, DVD for 29.99.
Had a certain Führer had his nasty little moustachioed way with Europe and claimed victory, establishing a power to take over the world, we would be living very differently today. Thanks to the soldiers who fought in World War II, constantly putting their own lives in danger to serve their countries, these men conquered that nasty little German bastard. These men are heroes, who were just doing their job, saving the world.
Band of Brothers is a ten-part series about the lives of a group of these war heroes. It focuses on ‘E’ (Easy) Company, 506th Regiment, 101st Airbourne of the U.S. Army as they train, prepare, and take to the frontlines in France, Belgium, and Germany — where they captured Hitler’s ‘Eagle’s Nest’ retreat. The training was punishing and unrelenting, which served to make the men of easy company some of the leanest and meanest going to war.
Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks (who also has writing and directing credits on a couple of episodes) are executive producers. The director and star of one of the greatest movies about the World War II — Saving Private Ryan — keep Band of Brothers in a similar vein [...]

Andy Richter Set To Re-Join Conan O’Brien On TBS Show ‘Conan’

Through all of the drama that has unfolded involving Conan O’Brien and NBC’s The Tonight Show, the light at the end of the tunnel was always where he would end up next. Second to that, we all wondered just how similar Conan’s new show would be to his old ones.
Lost in the talk show drama fire, we know that all of the crazy things that O’Brien created while at NBC — such as Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, for example — are the property of the network and will not be used again. What NBC doesn’t own, however, are the human beings that have worked with Conan in the past, and one has been confirmed for the reunion.
It’s being reported that none other than Andy Richter will indeed join O’Brien on his new TBS show, titled Conan, when it debuts on November 8, 2010. Richter was a beloved member of Late Night with Conan O’Brien back in the good old days before he left the show to try out his acting chops. The duo reunited when Conan took over The Tonight Show from Jay Leno, but we all know how well that played out. [...]

Watch Now: Footage Of Eric Stoltz As Marty McFly In ‘Back To The Future’

For those of you who aren’t aware — yes, before Michael J. Fox became the iconic Marty McFly in Back to the Future, the role belonged to Pulp Fiction and Caprica star Eric Stoltz.
Fox was wanted for the role all along, but with previous commitments to Family Ties, he simply was unable to take the job. Because of this, Stoltz was cast and even took part in five weeks of shooting. Ultimately, director Robert Zemeckis realized that while Stoltz was doing a great job, he wasn’t delivering the subtle humor that was so crucial for the Marty character, and the decision was made to go back and re-shoot all of the scenes with a new actor. Thankfully for us, they were able to work out a way to score Michael J. Fox after all.
Many geeks have known all of this stuff for years now, and we’ve even seen plenty of images of Stoltz as Marty, but we’ve never actually seen him in action…until now! For the 25th anniversary celebration and the release of the Back To The Future Trilogy Blu-ray Edition, a small clip from one of the special features talks a little about this monumental decision in cinematic history, while giving us a peek at footage of the actor in character [...]

Iron Man + Steampunk = Awesome
 |
Posted by Merkader | October 12th, 2010 at 10:52 am |

There are very few things that I think look as cool as Steampunk art. I’ve never really read any of the books, besides Leviathan, which I’m not sure even counts.
Yesterday, Iron Man director Jon Favreau tweeted out the coolest Steampunk art I have ever seen — it’s a Steampunk version of the Iron Man suit!
The image is posted above, and you can click it for the full view.
I’m not sure who made it, but the link Mr. Favreau put up goes to a Flickr account, and apparently this won a contest with Marvel. Some of the comments on the page say that this isn’t really Steampunk. What do you think? Steampunk or no, it is pretty kick ass! [...]

Miss ‘Beavis And Butt-Head’? See Them In ‘Jackass 3D’ This Weekend!

For most of us, just knowing that Jackass 3D is on the way was more than enough to sell us into theaters on October 15 when the movie will be released.
But now comes word of a little something extra that might just excite those of you already planning to see it even more so than you already were. It’s been discovered that Mike Judge‘s hilariously simple animated duo, Beavis and Butt-Head will make their long-awaited return in the movie.
Apparently MTV had Judge create an introduction for Jackass 3D that will see the nacho and heavy metal-loving cartoon characters discussing, well…3D! The intro will use the traditional animation style we know and love from the ’90s, but it is said that they too will be given the third dimension treatment specially for this return to glory.
If you’ll recall, we found out back in July that Judge was creating all-new episodes of Beavis and Butt-Head for MTV, but it was unclear how many. [...]
