Cop Busts Up Bumblebee On Set Of ‘Transformers 3′

Merkader   |

On the set of Transformers 3 in Washington, DC, they ran into a little problem. That problem was a police SUV. Apparently a veteran bomb squad officer was on his way out to a call and on a different channel than the police officer’s securing the film set for a chase scene for the movie. What ensues is Bumblebee, the yellow Chevy Camaro transformer, crashing into the side of the cop car.

You get a nice view of Transformer Optimus Prime and another (you are going to kill me) Autobot that I don’t know its name. You can hear the police siren, eventually see the cop car, then Bumblebee come out and, WHAMMY. It’s a nice little wreck. The officer was taken to the hospital, but my medically untrained eyes would guess that it was just a precaution. It’s a little weird that he was on a different radio frequency than the cops on set, but that could be normal, not only am I not a doctor, but I’m also not a cop, so that could be normal.

Below is some footage taken by someone on the scene. Click on the picture to see a bigger image of the crash, or you can click the source link to see Fox DC’s coverage, which is great and has a video of another angle of the crash [...]

See The Banksy Opening Of ‘The Simpsons’ That Has Everyone Talking

The Movie God   |

Twentieth Century Fox’s eternally popular animated series, The Simpsons, has been on the air for years and years and years now, but never has their opening sequence caused quite the stir that this past Sunday’s episode presented.

The opening, created by British graffiti artist Bansky, is traditional for the most part, side for the artist’s name tagged on a wall here and there. Traditional until the end that is; when it reaches the legendary couch gag at the end of every title sequence, things took an unexpected turn for the dark.

In fact, this little surprise was so dark, it’s set off a wave of controversy. And yes, while the gag is a bit depressing and bleak, it was only expected that certain people would scream and shout and complain, because that’s what people with clouded logic and a insatiable need for attention do. For the rest of us easy going folks, it’s easy to laugh at this knowing that it is just a cartoon, and that this quite obviously is not how things are really done on The Simpsons. [...]

Exclusive Set Photos: ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ Filming In Manchester

Manic Rage   |

Captain America

The Dale Street Journal: The Filming of Captain America: The First Avenger in Manchester

The following is an account of the filming in Manchester, UK, of the upcoming 2011 Marvel movie Captain America: The First Avenger, which includes exclusive photos from the set. The film is directed by Joe Johnston (The Rocketeer, Jurassic Park 3) with a $140 million budget and has Chris Evans (Fantastic Four, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World) in the title role. Now readers, I will keep it informative and humorous, with the anecdotes coming think and fast, and remember — when the production needed somewhere cheap that could masquerade as 1940s New York that they could blow seven shades of shit out of… they came to Manchester, England. The Forbidden Planet store only 5 minutes walk from the set seemingly had nothing advertising the fact… strange.

‘The Buildup’

I was oblivious. I was informed by a work colleague that on the one day I had off from work was the one day I missed the article in the Manchester Evening Newspaper [Thursday September 9th, 2010, page 24] in the Northern Quarter of Manchester on Dale Street — the bohemian beatnik center of the city, iconoclastic famous and championed by the infamous ‘sons’ from the band ‘Oasis’, that filming is to begin… something I can guarantee you DOES NOT happen that regularly in the the North West of England — granted the last two movies filmed here was the Alfie remake with Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr’s Sherlock Holmes, both of which flew past without so much of a mention, not that Jude Law is worth a mention [...]

‘Spider-Man’ Reboot Finds Its Villain In Rhys Ifans … But Who Will He Play?

The Movie God   |

Yet another casting has been announced by Sony Pictures and Columbia Pictures for their much-buzzed and immediate reboot of the Spider-Man franchise. This time around, it’s been revealed who will be playing the crucial villain role.

Sony announced that Rhys Ifans will be their villain in the new movie, facing off against Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield), and his love interest Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone). The only thing about the announcement is that the studio has decided to keep exactly who Ifans will be playing a big secret. This should go over well with fans who are dying to know who the big baddie in this new take on the Marvel comic book superhero would be.

Ifans is best known for his quirky supporting roles. He first stood out to most as the often oblivious slob and Hugh Grant flatmate in the romantic comedy, Notting Hill. Since then he’s stood out in films like The Replacements, Little Nicky, Human Nature, and Danny Deckchair. More recently, he’s appeared in Elizabeth: The Golden Age, The Informers, and The Boat That Rocked, and Greenberg. Next up, he’s set to play Luna Lovegood’s father, Xenophilius Lovegood, in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1. [...]

DreamWorks Animation Moving Forward With ‘How To Train Your Dragon 2′

The Movie God   |

As we all very well know, sequels are pretty much a guarantee when a movie does well, especially when it comes to computer animated feature films.

DreamWorks Animation has always been second to the masters of animated features, Pixar Animation, but they’ve done a great job improving their status over the years by delivering some impressive films. Unlike Pixar, who’ve always been a little reluctant on the idea, DreamWorks has never shied away from a sequel opportunity. Their biggest success, Shrek, turned into a major four-film franchise and Madagascar has its second sequel set for release in 2012. They also have a sequel to Kung Fu Panda on the way and a Shrek spinoff planned.

All of that said, it should come as no surprise that DreamWorks Animation has had plans to release a sequel to their last big hit, How To Train Your Dragon, and now they’ve started to reveal details on the sequel. [...]

New ‘Doctor Who’ Ongoing Comic Book Announced

Tom Cheredar   |

IDW's Doctor Who #1

A new Doctor Who ongoing comic book series featuring Matt Smith‘s eleventh version of the character was announced at New York Comic-Con’s IDW Publishing panel this weekend.

Scheduled for a January 2011 release, the new series — written by Tony Lee, who also wrote IDW’s series following the tenth (David Tennant) version of The Doctor — is set after the conclusion of Season 5 and possibly after this year’s Christmas Special, it was revealed.

“As you buy the comic in January, it’s set in the right moment. And, each story is self contained, so you can either class it as ‘Season 5.5′ or scatter them throughout season six,” Lee said in an interview with CBR [...]

Zombies Infest IDW’s Hollywood Franchise Line Of Comics

Obvious Zombie   |

IDW Publishing: Infestation

Oooh, I just love it when we zombies get all multi-dimensional n’ shit!

In January of 2011, IDW Publishing is set to launch a multi-title crossover event named Infestation, in which several of their flagship titles will be invaded by none other than… you guessed it, Zombies!

The event kicks off in January 2011, with Infestation #1 from writers Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, which finds us in IDW’s own Zombies vs. Robots universe just prior to some insane multi-dimensional event that seeds the rest of IDW’s titles with zombies and ‘infected’ robots. The event continues throughout two bi-weeky issues from each from their ‘Blockbuster Hollywood’ line, which includes Star Trek, G.I. Joe, Transformers, and Ghostbusters, and will conclude in April 2011 with Infestation #2 [...]

NYCC 2010: ‘Hanna’ Panel With Saoirse Ronan & Eric Bana

The Movie God   |

One of the panels at the New York Comic-Con 2010 that not many people knew anything about, was Atonement and Pride and Prejudice director Joe Wright‘s latest film, Hanna. But after learning a little about it, your interest in the assassin drama may just be piqued. On hand for the panel was Wright and stars Saoirse Ronan and Eric Bana.

The movie tells the story of a 14-year-old girl named Hanna (Ronan) who is raised in the wilds of Northern Finland by her father, Eric (Bana), to be a deadly young assassin. As any young teenager would, she begins yearning to explore the world and meet different people — she’s only really known her father and what she’s read in her books, which consists of an encyclopedia and Grimm’s Fairy Tales, causing her to have something of a fantastical-yet-false sense of what the real world is really like. In order to get to explore the world as she so wishes, she must first complete a dangerous mission: to find and assassinate a CIA agent named Marissa (Cate Blanchett), who her father had thought was already dead. ‘Doctor Who’ Filming In America For Season 6

Tom Cheredar   |

Doctor Who

After setting record-breaking ratings on BBC America, the Doctor Who cast and crew will film a two-part story on American soil for the first time in the show’s history, announced BBC.

Those trying to deduce what the story could be about might start by looking for anything significant that might have happened in a Utah desert during the 1960s. The Doctor, Amy, and Rory start their adventure in Utah and end up in The Oval Office itself, which means one of four different U.S. presidents could make an appearance: Dwight Eisenhower, John Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson, or Richard Nixon.

“The Doctor has visited every weird and wonderful planet you can imagine, so he was bound get round to America eventually! And of course every Doctor Who fan will be jumping up and down and saying he’s been in America before. But not for real, not on location — and not with a story like this one! Oh, you wait!” said showrunner Steven Moffat, who will write the two-parter [...]

NYCC 2010: ‘Green Lantern: The Animated Series’ First Impressions + Concept Art

Henchman21   |

Green Lantern: The Animated Series

We’ve known that Green Lantern: The Animated Series was coming to Cartoon Network for a little while, and attendees at the 2010 New York Comic-COn got their first look at the series this weekend. Sadly, there wasn’t any actual footage shown, but there was plenty of concept art shown (which you can view here below), as well as a a 20-second test clip of animation.

The show will be completely animated by CG (think The Clone Wars series) and Hal Jordan and Kilowog will be the main stars of the show. The good news is that Bruce Timm will be one of the showrunners, and he’s always produced consistently good shows, so there’s no reason to think this will be any different.

Details that emerged from the panel include that the show will run for at least 26 episodes, with the first 13 episodes already planned out. The main villains of the show will be the Red Lanterns, and it sounds like the other colored Lanterns will show up at some point. Everyone may assume that Sinestro would be the ideal villain for the series, but he actually won’t be showing up, at least for the first 13 episodes, although he will be getting built up over the course of the series for his eventual reveal, and they do have plans to reveal him at some point [...]

NYCC 2010: ‘The Thing’ Panel Reveals First Footage

Empress Eve   |

NYCC 2010: The Thing panel

The cast and filmmakers of Universal’s The Thing made an appearance at the 2010 New York Comic-Con on Saturday to promote their upcoming prequel to John Carpenter’s 1982 film, and revealed the first footage from the new film (see footage description here below).

Director Matthijis van Heijningen said that in the film we will get to see The Thing creature in its “pure form” — the form in which it’s been trapped in the ice in for all these years, but he also hinted that since the very nature of The Thing is stealing the biological identity of other lifeforms and it being from another planet, how could we know what this entity’s pure form really is.

Heijningen talked about a bit the effects used in the film, stating that they used as many practical effects (as opposed to CGI) as possible. He said he feels that playing against a man in a suit is much better for the actors than looking at a tennis ball on a string against a green screen. “We had as many real monsters on the set as possible,” the director said [...]

NYCC 2010: ‘Captain America: White’ Still On The Way

Henchman21   |

Captain America: White

Fans of Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale’s series of “color” stories (Spider-Man: Blue, Daredevil: Yellow, Hulk: Gray) have been waiting for their next installment in the series for a long time, Captain America: White, ever since it was first announced. We have only seen one issue, the #0 issue which saw print in July of 2008, but we haven’t seen anything since.

However, at Marvel’s Cup O Joe panel Saturday at the 2010 New York Comic Con, Loeb said that work is still going ahead on the series, and that Tim Sale is still drawing. Loeb said that they are waiting for all the issues to be completed and that Sale is basically painting every page. Loeb also said that they plan to have the series out in time for the Captain America movie [...]

‘Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows’ Part 1 Will NOT Be In 3D

The Movie God   |

You know 3D has gone way too far when you stop reporting about a movie getting that extra dimension, and start reporting about a movie who isn’t going to be in 3D. Crazy world we live in, folks.

Warner Brothers has announced that even though they’ve put much effort into getting Part 1 of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows converted to 3D in post production, they just don’t have the time to pull it off. The studio had plans to do all of the 3D work in post — a process that has led to very bad results for other films who have attempted it — and still has plans to do it for the second part of their epic two-part finale, but the quality they were seeking was just not possible before the scheduled November 19 release date.

This is grand news for fans of the series, due to the aforementioned fact that movies converted in post production have been pretty awful. There’s no point in risking the integrity of your franchise just to make a little more money on poor post-production 3D, and it’s a shame that they still plan to go through with the makeover for Part 2. [...]

You Won’t Find Jason Bourne Or Matt Damon In Tony Gilroy’s ‘The Bourne Legacy’

The Movie God   |

A few days ago we found out that Jason Bourne franchise writer Tony Gilroy would be pulling double-duty as both writer and director for the fourth installment in the series, The Bourne Legacy. The looming concern was whether star Matt Damon would be willing to return to his role despite the fact that second and third chapter director Paul Greengrass wasn’t involved.

The answer is apparently no.

After the initial reports of Gilroy’s involvement, the director wanted to make sure some unclear things became very clear, and one of those things was the Damon/Bourne factor. Gilroy explained in detail that this would be the movie we’ve heard about all along, using the Bourne title but at the same time being a completely original story, not adapted from Robert Ludlum‘s novel. Now we know that in this, a brand new hero will be used, not Jason Bourne, and that it will supposedly paint a much bigger picture to the world we’ve seen expand over the course of the first three movies. David O. Russell To Write & Direct ‘Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune’ Movie

The Movie God   |

Just recently it was reported that star Natalie Portman and director David O. Russell were stepping away from the adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, and it didn’t take Russell long to jump on board with another movie.

Sony Pictures has officially announced that Russell will be writing and directing the video game adaptation of the very popular Sony Computer Entertainment and developer Naughty Dog title, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. The project was first announced back in June of 2009, but hasn’t had the best luck with bringing everything together.

It was first revealed that Kyle Ward, who was already working on scripts for Kane & Lynch and Hitman 2 movies, would be the man for this job as well. A handful of months later, however, we found out that due to his commitment to Hitman, Ward would be heavily delayed on penning Uncharted, which Sony wanted to put get moving as quickly as possible. Instead of waiting, the studio hired two new writers in Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, but clearly that didn’t work out quite the way they had hope, either. [...]

Watch Now: Paper Animated ‘Star Wars’ Trilogy

seaberry   |

I recently came across this while trolling the ol’ interwebs. Eric Power (awesome last name) has created sort of a “clip show” of the Star Wars original trilogy using paper animation.

Click below to watch this cool vid.

I am really shocked and amazed at the fact that he was able to work in so many important events from Episodes 4, 5, and 6 with a runtime of two minutes and forty seconds. This is actually the music video to an original song entitled “Tattooine,” sung by Jeremy Messersmith. This is now my new favorite Star Wars song. Take that, John Williams!!

Seriously, though, I cannot get this very catchy song out of my head. Star Wars geeks who may have been disappointed (or thrilled) by last week’s news about the entire Star Wars saga being re-released in 3D now have this awesome video to show us what we really loved about the original saga, and that’s the heart of the film. And lightsabers. Lightsabers are always awesome. I would’ve liked a little more Lando, but this video still warms my geek heart [...]

NYCC 2010: ‘The Thing’ Prequel Banner

Empress Eve   |

The Thing prequel

On my way into the 2010 New York Comic-Con on Friday afternoon at the Jacob Javits Convention Center, I noticed a banner for The Thing prequel hovering high above the entrance to the Con, so I decided to snap a photo of it.

Check out the banner here above (click for larger, full view).

The banner is a teaser that has the name of the film, which even though it’s a prequel, is simply titled The Thing, the same name as the 1982 John Carpenter film from which it stems (confusing? I think so). There’s also its release date — April 29, 2011 — along with a nifty tagline: “Before it was unleashed, it was discovered.” [...]

NYCC 2010: Marvel’s X-Men Panel

Henchman21   |

Friday at New York Comic-Con 2010 brought another edition of Marvel‘s X-Men panel, and attendees got a few sneak peeks of some upcoming projects.

Probably the biggest announcement at the panel was the one with the least details. Towards the end of the panel, a new series called Age of X was announced with a promo picture with some obvious and not so obvious silhouettes of characters. Panel host and Marvel Sales Manager Arune Singh described it as “the end of mutants as we know them” and made it pretty clear that this series would at least be a spiritual successor (if not an actual sequel) to the fan-favorite “Age of Apocalypse” storyline from the 1990s. Singh said that more details including who will be writing the series, who will be handling the art, and who the mystery characters are will be revealed on Marvel’s webpage in a few weeks. The series will be out in January 2011 [...]
