See If You Can Survive The Zombies In This ‘Night Of The Living Dead’ Choose Your Own Adventure

The Movie God   |

A while back, someone made an awesome Choose Your Own Adventure mini-game based on The Twilight Saga (Read: Play Now! ‘Twilight Saga: Eclipse’ The 8-Bit Choose Your Own Adventure Game!). Basically, you just watch a short YouTube video and make a choice at the end to go to another video until your game is complete.

As fun and funny as that was, we may now have one that may top it for some. George A. Romero‘s classic 1968 zombie film, Night of the Living Dead, laid the foundation for all things zombie, and unless you haven’t noticed, it created a pop culture monster…quite fittingly. Still, the movie is part of the public domain, which means no one really owns it and anyone can have their way with it. Enter Editing the Dead, a dissection and reconstruction of the movie that allows you to choose what you’ll do next while trying to escape the hungry zombies. Unlike the Twilight game above, this uses the actual film, making it a must see/must play for anyone who loves Night of the Living Dead or zombies in general! [...]

New ‘Cowboys & Aliens’ Poster Released; Let The Trailer Countdown Begin!

The Movie God   |

A brand new poster for Jon Favreau‘s upcoming graphic novel adaptation, Cowboys & Aliens, has been released online via Yahoo! Movies.

The poster is simple but exciting enough for those of us itching to see the movie. The poster also serves a double-purpose: to keep us excited for the movie, which will be released next summer on July 29, 2011, and to set up the countdown to the movie’s first trailer, which is just a couple of days away now!

The movie stars Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde, Sam Rockwell, Adam Beach, and Paul Dano, and tells the story of an alien invasion in late 1800s Arizona, forcing rival cowboys and Indians to join forces and take on the intergalactic threat before it’s too late.

You can click on over to the other side right now to see the new poster, read the full synopsis, and also check out the countdown to the new trailer, which you’ll be able to see right here when the digits hit all zeroes (err…somewhere in that general area, anyway). [...]

Blu-ray Review: Highlander (Director’s Cut)

Empress Eve   |

Highlander blu-ray

Highlander
Director’s Cut
Blu-ray Edition
Directed by Russell Mulcahy
Starring Christopher Lambert, Clancy Brown, Sean Connery, Roxanne Hart
Lionsgate Home Entertainment
Release Date: November 2, 2010

There can be only one.

Even if you’ve never seen Highlander, chances are you’ve heard that phrase uttered countless times. It’s the battle cry of the sword-wielding Immortals in the 1986 fantasy-action film, starring Christopher Lambert.

Lambert appears as Connor MacLeod, a young Scotsman in the year 1536 who one day meets his fate on the battlefield at the hands of the Kurgan (Clancy Brown), a massive Slavic warrior out to slice Connor’s head from his neck. When Connor seemingly comes back to life after dying from his battle wounds, his superstitious clan banishes him, leaving him to build a new life for himself elsewhere. Five years later, a mysterious man named Ramirez (Sean Connery) seeks out Connor to become his mentor, explaining that they are of a group of Immortals who will eventually meet for The Gathering, where they will fight each other for The Prize until only one survives.

We learn about Connor’s early life through flashbacks, as the immortal now lives in present day (1985) New York City as antiques dealer Russell Nash, who’s currently being investigated by police after they catch him fleeing the scene where a man was found decapitated. Between dealing with the police and the probing questions from their overly curious forensics expert Brenda (Roxanne Hart), Connor also begins to feel the pull for The Gathering, which includes having to fight his old enemy The Kurgan, who’s wreaking havoc across the city in his quest to find and fight Connor [...]

Director Darren Aronofsky Shares ‘Wolverine 2′ Title; Turns Sequel Into Sneaky Reboot

The Movie God   |

The somewhat anticipated sequel to 2009′s X-Men spinoff movie, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, is becoming more and more worth your anticipation as time moves forward. From strictly a movie fan’s perspective, Wolverine was all right as an action/superhero flick, but when you have the name Wolverine in your title, a certain level of expectation exists, and comic book fans everywhere were outraged at some of the “minor” adjustments that were made to the mythos.

Because of this, said sequel was never a very exciting prospect…not until recently. In October we found out that one of the more unlikely candidates to direct the movie, Darren Aronofsky, was in fact signing on for the job. Aronofsky has previously directed Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain, The Wrestler, and the upcoming Black Swan, so his involvement in a Marvel comic book movie was a bit strange and unexpected but exciting at the same time.

If Aronofsky’s involvement wasn’t enough to pique your interest a bit, perhaps this might. [...]

‘The Thing’ Prequel Loses Its Release Date; Replaced By ‘Fast And The Furious 5′

The Movie God   |

Universal Pictures has decided to make some changes to its upcoming release schedule that may lead to some fans to become a little bit concerned.

The studio’s prequel to John Carpenter’s 1982 horror classic of the same name, The Thing, had been scheduled for release on April 29, 2011. Now it’s being reported that Universal has decided to pull The Thing from said release date and replace it with Fast Five, the fifth movie in the Fast and the Furious franchise. The Thing was not given another release date.

And while this could have those excited to see the movie a little worried as to what’s going on, the studio simply said that they made the move because The Thing is not yet ready, and that they’re very high on Fast Five.

So is the movie really just not ready, or is there troubles looming over the production of the film? Only time will tell. [...]

Sneak Peek Footage From ‘Green Lantern’ Trailer

Green Lantern Poster - Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan

Entertainment Tonight aired a sneak peek at new footage from the highly anticipated Green Lantern.

Check out the video here below.

The 38-seconds of footage is part of the film’s first trailer, which ET will premiere this Tuesday, before it’s shown in theaters next weekend attached to screenings of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1.

At Comic-Con in July, attendees were shown footage from Green Lantern of Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, but nothing has been released showing Reynolds suited up as Green Lantern. This sneak peek clearly gives us a look at Hal Jordan suiting up and stripping down (meaning, Reynolds in his underwear), as well as Green Lantern in flight with power ring alight.

What do you think of this new Green Lantern footage? [...]

The Girl Who Played With Fire
DVD | Blu-ray
Directed by Daniel Alfredson
Starring Noomi Rapace, Michael Nyqvist, Lena Endre, and Hans Christian Thulin
Music Box Films Home Entertainment
Released: October 26, 2010

In early 2009, I recall browsing Amazon for some new reading material. I was after something different, something new, and by an author I had not yet read material from. Topping the bestsellers at the site that month was a series of three novels from a Swedish author named Stieg Larsson. Curious at the books, I became even more intrigued upon the discovery that these books were published posthumously and that they had since become the biggest selling novels in his home country of Sweden.

The first tale, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, was an absolutely riveting tale, a book to which the “cliché” absolutely applies. With the first few chapters I was an advocate in Larsson’s world of the Millennium Trilogy (named after the magazine company one of the main characters works for), and completely a fan [...]

Flashback Movie Review: In America

Three-D   |

In America DVD

In America
DVD
Directed by Jim Sheridan
Starring Sarah Bolger, Emma Bolger, Paddy Considine, Djimon Hounsou, Samantha Morton
2003

A little girl by the name of Christy (Sarah Bolger) comes to America, Manhattan specifically, from Ireland and captures everything on her little red camcorder. She tapes anything she finds interesting, and that can be a lot. This camcorder sees everything from normal people walking the streets of Manhattan, a little girl beautifully singing Desperado, and even the end of days for two people she dearly loves. She lies on the top bunk, younger sister Ariel (Emma Bolger) on the bottom, and replays these happenings every night on her little video screen.

Some movies shake our emotions, others give us goosebumps, others even make us feel an overwhelming sense of joy but it’s a rarity that one single movie can possess all three of these golden qualities. In America (2003) is that rarity. It works mainly because of the performances but mostly due to the fact that director Jim Sheridan (My Left Foot) handles the movie with such delicacy and care because he dedicates this film to his younger brother Frankie who went through a battle with cancer. With that said he creates a realm of reality so personal that the least this movie can do to the human body is to resonate through its soul [...]

‘Call Of Duty: Black Ops’ Out Sells ‘Modern Warfare 2′ On Its First Day

Merkader   |

Activision, the publisher behind the Call of Duty franchise, has released sales data for the newest entry in the series, Call of Duty: Black Ops, which was released on November 9, 2010.

This sales data covers the first 24 hours that Call of Duty: Black Ops was on sale, and only in North America and the United Kingdom. In 24 hours, in just those two areas, this game sold 5.6 million copies, earning about $360 million in profit for the developers.

To put it in context, last year, when Modern Warfare 2 was released, Activision made a huge deal about its sales numbers. Black Ops sold almost a million more units on day one. These are astounding figures, and I can’t wait to see the first week’s numbers, which should come out on Monday [...]

Until The Light Takes Us
DVD | 2-Disc DVD | Blu-Ray
Directed by Aaron Aites and Audrey Ewell
Starring Gylve “Fenriz” Nagell, Varg Vikernes, Jan Axel “Hellhammer” Blomberg, Kjetil “Frost” Haraldstad
Factory 25
Released: October 19, 2010

It was the early 1990s, and for metalheads, change was in the air. “Alternative” was the buzz word being bandied about by music marketing, Grunge had taken over the charts, new bands and new sounds were coming… but among metal fans there was a desire to search and find something new and something different — and many were looking for more extreme and brutal movements.

Enter the Norwegian Black Metal movement. A lot of metal fans were first introduced to this scene when news hit international media of Varg Vikernes (Burzum) being arrested and tried for burning a number of churches across Norway. The media across the world had a field day with the story, labeling the initially underground movement of Black Metal being driven by “Satanic” influences.

The crimes, the deaths, and the church burnings quickly became identifiable with the Black Metal movement from Norway; but it opened up a new surge of followers that established the sound of Norwegian Black Metal as an integral and significant part of the history of metal in general [...]

Blu-ray Review: ‘Back To The Future’ 25th Anniversary Trilogy

Back To The Future 25th Anniversary Trilogy
Blu-ray Edition
Directed by Robert Zemeckis
Starring Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, Crispin Glover, Mary Steenburgen, Thomas F. Wilson, Elisabeth Shue
Universal Studios Home Entertainment
Release Date: October 26, 2010

Every decade there is a movie or a series of movies that just blow us away. One set of films in the 80s did just that and became the greatest time travel trilogy ever. We are talking about Back To The Future directed by Robert Zemeckis and produced by Steven Spielberg.

I am a huge fan of this trilogy. While Part II is not the best of the bunch, my favorite movie would have to be the first one. It’s my favorite because of how original the concept is. What would it be like to travel back in time and run into your parents when they are just teenagers? I think it would be fun to see my dad owning people in football like he did when he was younger. I would also like to see what it was like for my mom to be raised by my grandma. This first film opens up the thoughts of what would you do if you did run into your parents? What would you say? I love all the jokes in this film and how real these characters are. But, my favorite character in the entire trilogy is the time-travel machine, the DeLorean, because it truly does take on a life of its own.

For those of you not familiar with the trilogy, here’s a rundown of what each film is about [...]

Christopher Nolan To Meet With Anne Hathaway, Natalie Portman, Kiera Knightley & More For ‘Dark Knight Rises’

The Movie God   |

While we usually tend to stay away from non-news stories, it is a slow day and this is substantial enough for a bit of decent conversation.

It’s been revealed that director Christopher Nolan has set up meetings with a who’s who of top Hollywood actresses for potential roles in his much-anticipated third film in Warner Brothers’ Batman franchise, The Dark Knight Rises.

According to reports, Nolan is meeting Anne Hathaway, Natalie Portman, Kiera Knightley, Rachel Weisz, Naomi Watts, and Blake Lively. Apparently the director is not just looking to cast one role, but two: one to be a love interest of Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale), and the other to be a villain in the movie.

All of these actresses could likely pull off either role, but you’ll immediately distinguish who’s more likely for what. Portman is really difficult to imagine as any type of villain; she’s simply too tiny and too adorable for such evil. [...]
