Theme Park Watch: Disneyland’s Sleeping Beauty Winter Castle

Disney Parks Blog has posted a time-lapsed video of Sleeping Beauty’s Winter Castle at Disneyland Park as it transforms from its daytime appearance to its lit up nighttime look.
Watch the video here below.
The 45-second video, set to the classic Christmas tune “Carol Of The Bells,” shows Sleeping Beauty’s Castle at the California theme park decorated with a beautiful winter wonderland design. We then see as the sky darkens, the lights on the castle begin to glow, sparkle, and change colors. The end of the time-lapsed video shows part of one of the nighttime light shows.
At the end of the video, you saw a quickened version of one of the nighttime light shows. The Sleeping Beauty Winter Castle light show is divided into three “acts” over the course of the evening. Each one begins at the Castle and travels the length of Main Street, U.S.A., finishing at the Town Square Christmas tree. Each act features a magical snowfall, and the final act concludes with “Believe…in Holiday Magic” fireworks. [...]

Release Date, Cover Art For ‘All-Star Superman’ Animated Feature
 |
Posted by Henchman21 | December 2nd, 2010 at 2:13 pm |

A lot of comic fans have been looking forward to the next DC Universe Animated Feature, All-Star Superman, and now they have a date to look forward to. It was announced that the DVD and Blu-ray will be released on February 22, 2011. We also got a look at the cover which doesn’t look like it was actually done by Frank Quietly, artist of the comic series the movie is based on, but it does look very similar to his style.
See the cover art here at right.
All-Star Superman is as I said, based on the comic of the same name, written by Grant Morrison with art by Quietly. The story follows a dying Superman as he faces his last days and has one last battle with Lex Luthor. The comic is one of the best series of the last few years, and it will be interesting to see how the unique story is translated into a 70-minute movie.
The movie is executive produced by Bruce Timm (mastermind of the DC animated universe), directed by Sam Liu (Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths) and written by Dwayne McDuffie (also Crisis on Two Earths, as well as a bunch of Justice League Unlimited episodes). The movie features James Denton as Superman, Christina Hendricks as Lois Lane, and Anthony LaPaglia as Lex Luther [...]

Introducing The TARDIS Bed: Just What The Doctor Ordered
 |
Posted by cGt2099 | December 2nd, 2010 at 12:13 pm |

It may look like a single bed, but I’ve been assured it’s bigger on the inside. Imagine having your own bed, just like this one, based on the TARDIS. Doctor Who fans, here’s your chance, because this unique TARDIS Murphy Bed is currently up for auction over at TradeMe.co.nz, a bidding site based in New Zealand.
This bed was built by an exceptionally talented New Zealand fan, who assembled this TARDIS bed for his son. While it looks cool, there’s some hidden features here that are just awesome. The police light on top of the TARDIS works, and also doubles as a star projector, which projects the mighty Southern Cross onto the ceiling.
The telephone doesn’t work, but it does have a secret button that you can press to play the sound effects of the TARDIS. On top of that, there’s also a series of LED lights, with different settings for a variety of pulse patterns [...]

Original Stars Marc Singer, Jane Badler To Join ABC’s ‘V’

According to sources, Marc Singer will be joining the cast of ABC’s alien invasion series, V. Singer is no stranger to that world, as the actor played the lead role of Mike Donovan on the original V, which aired in the ’80s. The actor, who is perhaps best known from his lead role in The Beastmaster, will be playing Lars Tremont, one of the members of a secret organization consisting of top military and government leaders from all over the world
This goes along with the news that Jane Badler, who also starred as Diana in the original series opposite of Singer, will be joining the cast of the ABC’s reboot. Badler will take on the role of the evil mother of Anna, played by fanboy favorite Morena Baccarin of Firefly and Serenity fame, and she’ll make her debut on the January 4, 2011 premiere of season 2.
For those excited about the news of Singer’s return to the world of V, the news is a little less exciting. [...]

Geek Gear: Humpty Dumpty ‘Tetris’

There’s a brand new t-shirt design up for sale over at TeeFury, and today’s design mixes fairy tales with true geek video game nostalgia.
The shirt is called “Told You So,” and it takes the Humpty Dumpty fable and begs the question: “Just HOW did Humpty fall off of that wall?” The answer here, happens to be that he was sitting on a wall consisting of classic Nintendo Tetris blocks, and we all know what happens when you fill in a section of Tetris blocks. Silly Humpty.
As always, the shirt is available for the flat rate steal of $9, and comes in sizes small, medium, large, and extra large for men and women, as well as a XXL size for the larger gentlemen.
If you dig the design, you can go and get your hands on one right now. But remember, this shirt will only available for today, December 2, 2010, until midnight tonight EST. If you miss this one-day bubble, the shirt will be gone forever and you shall weep. [...]

Christopher Nolan Confirms ‘Inception’ Video Game

We see a lot of video games made based on major movie releases and vice versa, and most of these are pretty forgettable.
One of the movies you likely would never ever expect to hear about a video game adaptation for would be Christopher Nolan‘s mind and physics-bending summer blockbuster, Inception. But according to Nolan, it is happening, though probably not for a long while.
While talking to Entertainment Weekly about everything from possible Inception sequels to his new Batman sequel, The Dark Knight Rises, the director confirmed that a game was indeed in the works. Nolan says “I always imagined Inception to be a world where a lot of other stories could take place. At the moment, the only direction we’re channeling that is by developing a video game set in the world.” He also went on to say that while a sequel isn’t out of the question, it’s “not something I’ve given a lot of thought about,” but that video games are “something I’ve wanted to explore.” [...]

Christopher Salmon To Adapt Neil Gaiman’s ‘The Price’

At the beginning of November, we wrote about a Kickstarter project that was launched, which was to raise money to make a film adaptation of Neil Gaiman‘s short story, The Price [Read Want To See Neil Gaiman’s ‘The Price’ Get A Film Adaptation? You Can Help Get It Made!].
Aspiring filmmaker Christopher Salmon, who had created an animatic (an animated storyboard mock-up) for his vision of a computer-animated adaptation, set $150,000 as the funding goal for the project, with December 1, 2010 as the deadline.
As of yesterday, the funding goal was met — and exceeded!
The final amount raised through the Kickstarter page was $161,774, contributed by 2001 backers, which means Salmon can now follow through on his plans for the adaptation, which, from the start, had the support of Gaiman himself.
You can go to the Kickstarter page to see a “thank you” video from Salmon, who talks about his passion for this project and his plans for following through on making the film [...]

‘Tron: Legacy’ Director Joseph Kosinski Talks Daft Punk Soundtrack

The Internet public radio station WCRW 89.9 FM has posted an interview on their website from the show Morning Becomes Eclectic in which host Jason Bentley talked with Joseph Kosinski, the director of the upcoming Tron: Legacy, about his collaboration with the French dance music duo Daft Punk and their work on the Tron Legacy Soundtrack.
Bentley, who has previously served as the music supervisor for the Matrix trilogy, played a big hand in getting the boys in Daft Punk to score the big-budget sequel. In the interview Kosinski and Bentley talk in great detail about the director’s musical influences, how they figured into his vision for the Tron: Legacy score, and his experiences working with Daft Punk.
Kosinski also spoke about having the final mix of the score done at Skywalker Ranch, where the mix engineers described it as “the loudest film they had ever mixed music for.”
… the mix was a challenge. These are Oscar-winning guys who’ve done King Kong and Lord of the Rings and all this stuff, I don’t think they had ever encountered a score quite like this. It was a challenging thing to get music with this much power to mesh with a sound design that was also equally powerful [...]

Frank Darabont Fires ‘Walking Dead’ Writing Staff; Will Use Freelancers For Season 2

Some interesting news from the world of The Walking Dead. Apparently writer/director/producer Frank Darabont has decided to send away his entire writing staff, and will not be replacing them with a new writing staff for season 2 of the show, which was recently announced by AMC.
No word on exactly why the writing staff was fired, but it’s assumed that they just weren’t getting the job done. Darabont himself penned the first two episodes, and he did touch-ups and rewrites on the last four of this six-episode first season run.
Instead of the usual replacement of said terminated staff, it sounds as if Darabont is planning to just put the jobs out to freelance writers while continuing to ensure that the quality is up to par himself. This wouldn’t be the first time this strategy has been attempted: Starz and the BBC also uses freelance writers for Torchwood, which was the method used by their UK counterpart. Though this is okay with the BBC, it’s expected that issues might arise with the Writer’s Guild. [...]

Mark Hamill To Return To The Big Screen In ‘NEW-GEN’
 |
Posted by Henchman21 | December 1st, 2010 at 12:15 am |

For a while now, Mark Hamill has been more known for his voice work as the Joker in the animated Batman series and video games, than he has been for any live-action roles but that may be changing soon.
Hamill has signed on to play an as-of-yet unnamed role in a project called NEW-GEN, a superhero property which was originally distributed by Marvel and which can be read now on Panelfly, and serves as a prequel to the planned film. As near as I can tell, this will be Hamill’s first big-screen role since 2003. NEW-GEN creators A.P.N.G. Enterprises announced today that not only was the live-action film happening, but also that the company would be releasing a 3D Motion Comic [...]
